GAP - what are your opinions??

I think some of Gaps sweaters and shirts are pretty nice at times and have a lower price range than crappier quality/style stores such as Hollister and Abercrombie :smile:yuk:smile:. They have sales a lot too. I find that their pants and jackets are quite ill-fitting though. However, after watching a movie about sweatshops, I think I'll take my business elsewhere. Some clothes companies have their clothes manufactured in places such as Saipan, which is an island that is considered American territory, and then slap on the label "made in U.S.A." But don't just label Gap as bad because lots of other companies use sweatshops too, like Banana Republic and Abercrombie.

Well GAP Inc. owns Banana Republic, GAP, and Old Navy...

It's so boring!
It's a good place to get the basics, but to be unique... NO.

I actually like Gap. You can find really good pieces of clothing for some minor prices, the only negative thing is bags. I've never seen a good Gap bag, even though I own a couple.

I love that fashion is available to all income levels... everyone need to have the chance to look great and feel confident about themselves... that is so important to me. While their clothes aren't my favorite, their concept is...

I like gap.. I like their jeans... I love their sale rack.

Sadly as I grow older The Gap is becoming more and more appealing to me. Their stuff is basic and simple, and it's a major bonus that all of their shirts have extra-long sleeves (I'm a tall person).

I just bought some basic long sleeve tees there and I've washed them once, maybe twice, and the sleeves shrunk up 2 inches! The body length seems the same (it was long to begin with) but the stupid sleeves look wierd now and I have to wear them slightly pushed up!

i think juicy still makes their clothes in the usa

Actually, Juicy is owned by Liz Claiborne, which is a huge company with factories all over the world (some in the US, and some elsewhere). They also own C and C California.

Anyway, regarding the original question, I think Gap can be a great place to pick up lots of basic items (especially when you need something basic right away and you don't have time to shop around for it). Sure, you're not going to get something super-cutting-edge or avant garde or totally unique with local flavor at Gap, but that's not the store's purpose. Also, it's not like shopping at a store, especially one that sells mostly basics, really locks you into a certain look. You can get pieces at Gap or similar stores, and mix in other pieces with them if you want--plenty of people wear Gap items with more formal items, the aforermentioned cutting edge pieces, local finds, luxury items, whatever.

I hate how they use the crappiest quality in their most expensive clothing, especially their coats and sweaters

No way! Juicy is owned by Claiborne?! When I started getting interested in the stocks my dad owns and started asking him about certain designers stocks, I was shocked to find out who owns what companies! I always thought all the designers were owned by themselves.

First, Gap sizing is ridulous! I wear a 0 from them when I'm normally a 4. I guess thats their attempt at making women think they are a smaller size than they actually are.

Gap had some cashmere hoodies and tank for the fall/holiday. Nice upgrade for them.

I agree that unless you need basics, the Gap isn't the place to be unique.

Claiborne owns tons of brands, including Juicy, C&C, Mexx, Laundry by Shelli Segal, Kenneth Cole, Lucky, Sigrid Olsen, and a bunch more.

I like Gap becasue of its fashionable yet simple design. My only complaint is the material used. The material used is often dusty feeling or rough. From far away, it looks good; but giving it a close look, it looks cheap. Well, at this kind of price, what can I say?

i love that new belted trench with the roses on it. it will be available in february.

they are only making a limited amount.

gap wants people to be fighting over it just like people fought over stuff at h&m for stella mccartney.

they have even set up a waiting list via an 800-number.

its in the new shop etc magazine if anyone is curious.

They have some nice stuff from time to time, but their sizing is horrid. I wear a medium, and the length of their shirts is perfect, but they are SO BAGGY, I feel like a kid wearing a bedsheet on Halloween.

For basics, I'd much rather go for American Apparel. Not Gap... their ethics make me sick.

preppy crap

Gap was a good company years ago now they have a bunch of preppy crap that tries to look expensive but comes of as cheap knock offs of high quality clothes. ps no offensive to those who like it some wear it very well
