Givenchy F/W 2021.22 Paris

The collection is ultra banal. I think it's so disgusting replacing sequins with nose rings or nipple rings, SO BANAL...

At this point it's more shocking if a model wore a pretty dress that fully covered her body. With non-hideous shoes.

If Instagram is any signifier - they are going to focus on printed cotton separates that read "GIVENCHY" on it...

Right before the show debuted the american footballer aaron donald posted a pic of himself in a givenchy separate. guys like him don't do any IG posts unless it's paid. Clearly this is who Givenchy wants their customer to be.

I only know this guy bc my husband likes american football... :D

It really shows where LVMH wants things to be in. We’ll see if they’ll succeed. One thing’s for sure though, it won’t satisfy people here.

Although I must note that even during Clare’s tenure (and after since they’re clearing stocks off) when I go to the stores it’s all basics like this slapped with a logo.

LVMH is experienced enough to know the only reason Givenchy logo sells is if the runway is a spectacle of 'high fashion' which is exactly what we see here. Expect a bunch of "influencers" (Kylie Jenner) to wear samples of this stuff but none of it will be produced and Saks will only get logo cotton separates and like 2 highly edited runway looks.

I dont mind logos like other people tho. they have their place in every fashionistas wardrobe.

Philipp Plein is a German fashion designer and founder of the Philipp Plein International Group which includes the Philipp Plein, Plein Sport, and Billionaire brands. He also just designed his first collection for Givenchy. Wikipedia

I’ve been thinking about it—what should they [LVMH] do for a house like Givenchy in this era? A more couture-oriented approach like Clare’s didn’t work. Now they’re trying a Riccardo redux and it’s not working either. Seems like out of the recent gambles of LVMH, only Kim Jones and MGC at least profit-wise is working. Fashion generally feels uninspired right now that other than commerciality there’s no target.
Find someone talented who has a vision. That’s all...
Givenchy before Riccardo did not have that unified vision. A designer who is good in menswear and womenswear is quite rare. Clare was capable but she did not have the vision.

Logo pieces are entry-priced items for people who wants to enter the world of Givenchy with something familiar buy during Riccardo’s time, they produced and sold the runway collections. And Givenchy was also less expensive than Dior for example.

Maybe LVMH should try the Kering approach and sometimes give chances to the numbers 2 of the studios. The success of Daniel Lee should be a wake-up call for them. Fendi and Givenchy had very capable studios!

^^^ Anyone who glimpses at fashion for more than 15min can tell you that this person lazily copying-and-pasting away others’ designs is just a typical habit of his. Why this unnecessary insistant that he’s another “White dude capitalizing off the creativity and accomplishments of a gay POC” is so sh*tstirringly shady as he is. He blatantly will rip-off anyone, regardless of race/sexuality/gender.

^^^ Is anyone really surprised? The moment I heard his name being announced as the Artistic Director, I knew he would bring with him a suitcase full of problems. (Who was responsible for "hiring" Matthew Williams anyway? Was it Alexandre Arnault or Sidney Toledano? Does anybody know?)

LVMH has a big problem on their hands because a lot of their top designers have been accused of copying other designers and/or being lazy and unoriginal in general. Look at Virgil, who must recently copied Walter van Beirendonck. Look at Hedi at Celine. And of course Mr. Williams aka. Riccardo Tisci lite.

I have to say Kering, at the moment, has a much better assortment of designers, and their brands truly stand apart from one another. The brands at LVMH, particularly in terms of menswear, are beginning to look far too similar to each other.

He disgusts me. If he absolutely has to steal designs I suggest he do so from other straight white men and leave already marginalized groups alone!

LOL Not sure if serious… Maybe got lost in translation somewhere? Maybe best not to “steal” at all from anyone rather don’t he dare steal from “marginalized groups”-- but sure, go ahead, steal from “straight white men”???

(BTW, Benjamin hardly seemed oppressed and marginalized; he was a cool kid partying with the in-crowd at night and hanging with the rich and the beautiful during the day at work. And furthermore, so what if this guy did rip off Benjamin??? …Besides the designs being 3 decades apart, no one designer has a right over any design and if anyone thinks they do, then they need to get real and check their overinflated ego. I’d be ROTFL if I were all the designers this guy ripped off since his versions always ends up looking a cheap knockoff version. He’s just awfully boring and so uncreative. But that sort of encapsulates this era in fashion, doesn’t it???)

But, of course. So-called "Equity" almost always reeks of "Revenge."

I couldn't care less if straight white men steal from other straight white men...I don't expect anything less from them. They need to stop capitalizing on the ideas of queer and POC but what do you expect from the colonizers

^^^ Good to know you’re just a straightup racist.

Absolutely. It’s just showing how racist/discriminatory/prejudiced everybody— regardless of race/sexuality/gender, are so easily capable of. I highly recommend these SJW/white saviours/virtue-signalers (re)read Animal Farm. Don’t you just love it when life imitates art???

(BTW, this Givenchy guy is straight...???)
