Golden Globes 2007

I agree with what people said about there being too much white this year... not colourful enough and therefore so boring in my opinion! But my absolute favourite was definitely Ali Larter - yes, her dress and makeup was kinda simple but it worked because it was so very refreshing... loved the natural look. Others I thought were worth mentioning: Rinko (actually, I was like  at first but she deserves a mention because she pulled it off so well! I could never wear a dress like that), Emily Blunt (really, the only word to describe her is stunning), Courtney Cox (beautiful), Naomi Watts (for her choice of colour) and Sienna Miller (although I didn't like the braid).. and Reese for always looking so cute! ^_^

Now on the other hand, Beyonce was just :yuk::yuk::yuk:. How dare she show up at such a glamorous event in that.. waaay too over the top. And I also didn't fancy Angelina's look (especially the hair, I thought it made her look heaps old) or her attitude.. it was a little cold but yes, those reporters wasted time asking some pretty damn stupid and irrelevant questions! No wonder she acted like she didn't even want to be there.

This is just my opinion though.. oh and cheers to the people who posted pics in the thread! :flower:

Angelina's golden earings+golden necklace+golden bracelet combo was the tackiest thing I've ever seen. I wonder if she looked in the mirror and thought "I look so good". The hair was a poor choice too. Who styled her? Beyonce's mom?

Wow Angie looked comparable to Beyonce? I think you have issues :p And I love the acessories with the dress. She was reminding me of my favourite red carpet moment EVER which is Cate Blanchett at the Oscars in I think 1999 -the year that she was up against Gwyneth for Shakespeare In Love. That black dress with the gold indian jewellery was divine. Angie looks as good in my opinion but has the upper hand in terms of... well that face.

So no aftershow pics today? In which I still am going with Reece, Angelina, Rinko and Sienna as my favourites.

The stars that memorably stuck out as looking really good were Ali Larter and Reese Witherspoon. I loved them ^_^

I like most of the dress of GG even if there was too much white...
my fav:
Reese I like everything about her out fit, the dress is great and the colour just perfect on her, I simply love her shoes!!!
Kate Winslet, as usual she looks great the dress is perfect! :woot:
Toni Colette, I love the colour of her dress and she was great in "Little Miss Sunshine" :flower:
Yunjin Kim, the dress is great she looks lovely!
Drew Barrymore, just wonderful I love the dress!
Salma Hayek, just gorgeous!!!
I have to say I also like a lot America Ferrera, she looks so good and I'm so happy she won!
So and so:
Rachel Weisz, I don't like so much the dress even if she looks great in red!
Jessica Biel, nice dress and her body is great but her earrings are so bad, they are too much with that dress
Sienna Miller, usually I don't like her style but the dress is great and she looks so good, just her hair isn't so nice too much "german style"
Courteney Cox the dress isn't so nice but she looks great!
I'm not sure about Cate Blanchett, she looks great but the dress is not her style.
Worst:
Angelina Jolie, the colour of her dress is horrible looks like mouse colour, and she looks so old in her face, I don't like her hair too!
Cameron Diaz, even if the dress is from Valentino is horrible and she looks so pale and bad
and I must say Katherine Heigl usually i like her but that dress is so boring...

Has anyone seen any complete (more or less) list of what people wore last night? Thanx! /V

Best: My darling Reese W. ()
Penelope Cruz
Mark Wahlbergs girlfriend or whatever function she has
Naomi Watts
Teri Hatcher

People say the funniest things when theyre jealous. :innocent:
I don't think is beacause she's jealous but just because it's true... Angelina looks really old, usually she looks so much better! Maybe is the make-up...

God why can't people criticize Angelina Jolie? It is so annoying. I never found her pretty. Period. she is not my TYPE. why do i have to be jealous?
I say Reese Witherspoon is the prettiest woman in the world, you dont agree? I dont care. People have different tastes. Please accept other peoples opinions about angelina and dont always blame it on 'jealousy'.

Yeh but she doesnt look 100.

She still looks pretty even if she does look old...

LeonieAlexandria: completly agree with you on both Reese and Angelina. There at opposite ends of the scale IMO, in there careers, looks, and personality, Reese seems so natural and sweet, and looked great last night.

My picks for best dressed

Cameron Diaz - I loved her Valentino dress! It was daring and I think because she's so tall and lean she can pull it off (her arms looked amazingly toned too!) but I did not like her makeup at all

America Ferrera - Her dress was very flattering for her and she was just so happy the whole night^_^ :flower:

Kyra Sedgwick - her J. Mendel dress wasgorgeous.... mature without being mumsy. Very Grecian looking to me

Salma Hayek - She looked gorgeous... I loved the detailing on her dress

Dane Cook - Apart from all the tux's and gorgeous men I really liked his look the best. It was dressy but not traditional

Rachel Weiz - plain dress... but the color is fantastic for her skin & hair:heart:

Emilie de Ravin - Didn't like the color of her dress on her(washed her out). But I did love her hair and makeup:heart:

Reese Witherspoon - her dress was cute on her... but her hair was gorgeous! It looks so silky and healthy

Jessica Biel
Emily Blunt
Jennifer Lopez
Penelope Cruz
Ellen Pompeo - the dress was cool but didn't care too much for her hair

NYTImes Cathy Horyn is starting a blog next week. Here are some comments about last night.

In spite of the casual-cosy atmosphere of the Globes, the fashion tonight looked every bit as glamorous as what we now expect from the Oscars. The TV actresses seem inseparable from the movie stars; no longer on the designer short-straw list. Even the women of “Desperate Housewives” seemed a little less eager to please this time. Of course there’s a freakishness about Hollywood glamour, hugely aided by Botox-smoothed faces and bad dye jobs. But even that didn’t seem as conspicuous this time. As a run-up to the Oscars, at least a couple of trends emerged — namely, the amount of colorful dresses (Drew Barrymore in pale pink Dior, America Ferrera in a purple Brian Reyes) and abstract flower prints (Sienna Miller in Marchesa, Chloe Sevigny in Yves Saint Laurent). Lacquered sequined dresses looked boring, and generally the emphasis was on drapery rather than embellishment. I wondered about the flower ornament behind Hilary Swank’s ear. It looked faintly self-conscious, and I bet she couldn’t wait to have a good scratch.

The runway season is about to begin, and I’m starting a new blog on nytimes.com called “On the Runway” (look for it early next month) and I was thinking tonight how closely the red carpet resembles the runway. This is not entirely surprising, given that many of the dresses at the Globes — Cate Blanchett’s black lace Alexander McQueen gown, for instance — came directly from the catwalk. It’s good for fashion and, I suppose, it means that someone is actually paying attention to the direction and creativity that designers have to offer, especially designers who know something about fit and proportion. It’s a little like Warren Beatty saying it’s nice to have the freedom as an actor and a director to say what you think.
But the symmetry between the runway and the red carpet also suggests a certain conformity, or uniformity. It betrays the reach of super brands and discourages individual style, and indeed original style. Where is the woman in the well-cut pantsuit? Where is the star in the subtle Yohji Yamamoto dress? I would say things are not as free as they appear.

More Cathy Horyn...

Red-carpet hair is apparently like a mood swing. One season all the young actresses wear their hair down and loose, the fashion police accuse them of being hopeless slobs, and the next year we’re looking at Mildred Pierce. I found the upswept hair — pumped at the crown, pinned behind the ears — a tad grand. Though Penelope Cruz looked amazing, I thought, in her fluttery black Chanel dress. There’s a fine line between looking polished and calcified.
I liked the fact that Reese Witherspoon, Kate Winslet, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Beyonce all wore their hair straight, as any woman their age might. Ms. Streep popped on her reading glasses. Helen Mirren appeared to have sighed before her mirror and said, “Well, here goes.” And what about Sienna Miller’s Heidi braid? Contrast that impudent gesture with Vanessa Williams’ loaner sable, and you have something particular and fresh.

Hugh Laurie, beautifully fumbling for the right words, suggested that Dolce & Gabbana write acceptance speeches. That’s funny. Does Laurie have any idea what a pair of single-minded fashion designers would say? “I want to thank my tailor.” And, anyway, do designers need any more plugs tonight? I like the way some of the actresses casually sweep a manicured hand over their costume, turn out a foot, and say, “My dress is by Carmen Marc Valvo, my jewelry is from Fred Leighton” and so forth and so on. I feel as though I’m watching “Let’s Make a Deal.”
Hold everything, sisters. Meryl Streep, brilliant just won for “The Devil Wears Prada.” OK, her speech was NOT written by Miuccia Prada, but does anyone doubt the strange impact of fashion today?
