Gucci S/S 2024 Milan

This might be a weird thing to say, but I think sometimes you can just tell if someone's going to be a good designer from the name. Alexander McQueen - fashion designer. Karl Lagerfeld - fashion designer. Hedi Slimane, Cristobal Balenciaga, Grace Wales Bonner, Alessandro Michele, all really obviously designers. 'Sabato De Sarno'... not so much.

The soundtrack was good!

I hope this is just a palette cleanser, but they had few seasons of studio-led efforts for those. I was hoping for a clearer direction and what I got was the most pandering, normie stuff. I’d settle for something revolting—at least you feel something.

I should really consider using another name professionally then...

They got the wrong slogan, GUCCI NIENTE (nothing), suits this better.

From the moment I saw the preview looks, I knew it was going to be generic. At the end it has been more than that: a generic disaster.

I wanted to "fall in love with Gucci again" TM...but the truth is that I only fell asleep with this debut collection.
I got the same kind of excitement I could get from going to an outlet, on clearance day, getting rid of the remains from several diffusion lines.

I mean, I was expecting it to be boring, but the good kind of boring like Vaccarello's Saint Laurent/Hawkings' Tom Ford. This is boring and bad.

it starts well if we forget about the first look that shouldn’t have been picked as a first look.
it’s a Spring/ Summer collection and you open with an overcoat and mini-shorts. done and better.

the tailored outfits in the beginning felt cool and fresh. would’ve been nice to see one more colour for each at least…

the pencil skirts with the slit will be bestsellers, they look incredible and it’s a shame we didn’t see a couple more styled with different tops. or even a full leather outfit with said skirt.

the skirt with fringes and the jacket should’ve been made in other colours and different styles.
fringes gimmicky done right. I’ll give you this Sabato.

and it gets off the rails. the second part is messy and very referencial and it looks sloppy made. someone mentioned Kane… and Miuccia…

also it looks like it was styled by two different people.

the casting was abysmal.

By the way, this is the original s/s 1999 Gucci by Tom Ford he randomly copied (and he managed to make it worse )

Guccis thing has never been a look. Gucci never had a look.

Gucci was always that brand who reinvented itself to fit perfectly in the moment. This is them continuing that heritage.

lol what is this. i see daniel lee botega vibes

It's funny to read the comments and all your big feelings involved.
What did you expect from him?

He just did what the suits wanted. A clean cut from AM, something more approachable, younger for the masses. He follows exactly the same pattern as Hedi did at Celine. And the suits at Gucci want to replicate this huge rebranding now. It's not a secret. That's why they picked Sabato.

He's talented, he has years of experience, he has the same italian roots as the brand and also a elevated mass market taste, BUT he's no leader for sure.

He's perfect for this role.

Will they be successful in the long run? I doubt it. The stores need a revamp too - everything has to be clinic and clean to spotlight these mostly soulless clothes in the best way.

Gucci will be a strange mix of the new and old Celine (just look at the Daria Gucci ad) and i would not held my hopes high to get something revolutionary or artistic fireworks at Gucci for the next years to come. Maybe never ever again.

SABATO DE SARNO

Thus far....5 pages of comments about this collection. The majority....mostly negative opinions....and I agree.I

The collection has no soul. It's devoid of any feelings...it has no point of view....and there isn't much fantasy.

I'm one of those people who cheered on AM right from the beginning of his start at Gucci. My personal style isn't very demure or subtle. I've always been a person who immediately gravitated towards the more editorial pieces. Needless to say....my style isn't very classic. For instance...I do like the color blue....but blue is a color that I typically refuse to wear. Blue....seen on a man....is too common..

Nothing in this collection grabs my attention. There are no busy patterns....barely any use of bright colors (besides maroon and acid green). Nothing in this collection holds any memory. Every piece can be easily forgotten.

This collection is marketed towards people who see fashion and clothing...as an investment. Money.... that is spent wisely. Buying pieces that are timeless and not very trendy. Nothing wrong with being one of those people.....but....I'm simply not one of them.

Embellished tank tops??....oversized jackets??....baggy and slouchy jeans?? Meh....boring and typical pieces of clothing. Not much for me to desire, here.

I like this in spite of reminding me of Miu Miu and several other brands. Nothing is breathtaking or surprising but they’re beautiful clothes, not forced clickbait. I did expect more but for the moment I just take it as a first collection to clean the slate. Truth be told there are a lot of things I would wear.

I think the investors think like you, they are happy to replace fashion with more merchandise; there was a noticeable little bump on Kering stock prices when the show started yesterday and for the duration of the show. They are definitely happier than the TFS crowd, but it was still a sad day for us.

The entire collection has this (corporate) intention to let Influencers do the selling. Because everything is a Guccified Frankieshop.

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of desirable leather goods. The shoes are forgettable and have been done before. For a Brand that has been infamous and known for its loafers, this should've been a priority.

Yet Sabato gave us a sterilized Gucci. Denuded of sensation, grit and remarkability.
