Yes, the deaths were sad, but what really made me cry was all the sacrifices, the dedication...it was truely touching that in the midst of all the negativity a strong determination remained with everyone, you know? The whole Dumbledore's army, that was just AMAZING. It just made me cry to feel the willingness of everyone fighting, knowingly sacrificing themselves.

I was not really surprised with any of the deaths.I always thought that by the end of the series all of the Marauders would be together again.Fred to me always seemed to be the most outgoing of the twins and i just had a feeling he would go.Now Hedwig, Dobby and Tonks totally floored me.I just never thought they would go.Snape was no surprise either(oh one thing JK did right with Snape was the suspense on who side he was really on.She had me guessing until the last moment).I knew that with Voldie coming to an end so would Snape.I was actually expecting some more major deaths like Hagrid or Ron.As a matter of fact, i think it would have made the book more realistic if one of them had die.I just wish JK would have taken more time to go into Harry's feelings about the deaths.So many things in the book were so perfunctory.That to me was the books biggest flaw.Brillant but overly random at times and more than a little slightly haphazard.
Basically i'm still all over the place with this book.One second i love it next i'm not so sure(as exampled by my previous posts lol).I feel like a walking contradiction lol.I am not sure what to think i will just have to wait and see.

Exactly! There was way too much emphasis on Ron, Harry, and Hermoine's hapless planning and waiting around for something to happen. Each one of their plans unraveled quickly and they somehow escape (mostly by Apparition), while innocent bystanders or their friends are killed off. I thought that was really lame. And the epilogue was so open ended. What happened to all the Death Eaters? How is George doing without Fred? Who's raising Lupin's kid now that he and Tonks are dead? Malfoy's married too? To Pansy or someone else??? Geez. I did skim through the book rather quickly but I still felt I was missing a lot.

I cried through the whole thing. But it isn't the best one. From the moment they got to Bill's cottage it seemed rushed, but the overall efect was great. Not brilliant, but great. I loved it by what it is, the last of the seven Harry Potter books. I grew up with him, I can't help it!

But the epilogue ruined part of it for me. I read a thread on The Leaky Cauldron a couple of years ago, and they either used Occlumency against JK Rowling or she read it. Seriously. I think I'll just rip it off and all will be well.

I liked the epilogue. It was cute, and cliched, but that what I think it should be.

Now we're positive Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione are together, which I am proud to say I knew from book 2, maybe even the first book.

Everyone seems to hate the names, but I loved them.

Nah, I'll tell you I cried a bit when Harry told A/S ( ) that Snape was the bravest man he'd ever met. And Ron always is funny.

i loved the whole book. i'm just so sad that fred died. i wanted all of the weasleys and luna to survive and fred and george are my favorite weasleys. i sort of wish she would have elaborated on everyone else's futures instead of just ginny, ron, hermione and harry. i'm more interested in how the rest of the wizarding world was doing.

It is the end of an era. My childhood is over.

I really feel for Snape now. All those years of loving a woman.

I was really torn about learning Dumbledore's past. Was he any better than Voldemort, wanting to conquer death?

Other parts I loved:

1. Ron saving Harry from the locket/having the destroy the horcrux -- it showed Ron's insecurities really well and I loved Hermione's anger at him afterwards.

2. The H/G kiss in the beginning and Ron's protectiveness towards Ginny.

3. Dudley! I always thought he would at least be redeemed slightly, and I loved their goodbye.

And my all time favorite part:

"Not my daughter you b*tch!"

I actually burst out laughing at that. And I'm so glad Molly won.

Am I the only one that's about to DIE OF GRIEF?!

Moments where I couldn't contain myself and bawled uncontrollably:

1. When Harry was in Sirius' room, looking at the photograph of the young Marauders.

2. Dobby's burial.

3. When I read about Lupin and Tonks' body on the floor of the Great Hall.

4. When Sirius started speaking after he and the others were "brought back" by the ring in the forest.

5. The entire second last and last page of the chapter where Harry "dies".

6. When Dumbledore said he (himself) was actually dead (I'd always hung on to the little hope that he was still alive, even though JKR denied it...).

7. The entire last chapter and

8. The entire epilogue.

...this has been the most emotional book I have ever read

When that happened, I was like, "YEAH!"

On Mugglenet it says it was confirmed by JKR, "There is a character who does manage, in desperate circumstances, to do magic quite late in life, but that is very rare..." Who was it? Did I completely miss something?

I honestly could barely register Tonks and Lupin's death -- I was so involved in the scene with Fred and imagining what George was feeling (I'm a twin, and we are no where as near as close as Fred/George, and I know I'd still feel like I'd lost part of myself).

Especially because JKR said it almost casually -- she describe them as sleeping next to the dead bodies or something.

I know! I was expecting Lupin to die in this one, as I was expecting Peter to die, because I didn't feel like the book would really be over unless the Marauders were finished. But still, I loved them so much... the Marauders were my favourite group of people, including Peter for some twisted reason and I...

I felt horrible for Peter as well -- we actually saw him die in the worse way possible, but at the same time, he repaid his life debt to Harry and saved them.

Another thing I'd forgotten to mention:

I love how Percy was redeemed. The moment before Fred dies, and he makes a joke about quitting, and the twins clearly forgave him, and then him over Fred's body...god I'm seriously tearing up right now... That was so powerful.

I forgot about that !!! Ohhhhh, God, my tears welled up over that, too. I couldn't imagine how Percy must've felt... he only just started talking to him again and then BAM... he's gone...

But on a LIGHTER NOTE... I loved that Molly part, too I immediately thought of Driving Lessons, when Julie Walters' character stormed into the auditorium, screaming, "I'VE COME FOR MY BOY!!!"

I also laughed at the fact that FINALLY, JK used a swear word in her book.

I know, I was waiting for that as well. (Although I'm sure someones already criticizing her because children read the books... I wouldn't classify this as a children's book at all, even more so than the last few books. It was extremely dark and violent.)

Also, do we know if Lavender Brown died? It was sort of implied, I thought, but I'm not sure.

I don't like it much, I don't like Dumbledore (earlier one of my favorite character.. in books I prefer black/white person, not grey) And I thought I hated all those boy and girl stuff in Half blood prince.

Oh and dont get me started on that epilogue

I hope so much that she would rewrite it.

There was a lot of resemblance to the Holocaust.

And how did Harry get blasted by the Avada curse and end up in purgatory/king corss?

Yeah, I think King corss moment was so Matrix.

But I know that I had to read so fast that I couldn't enjoy much - I was too eager to know how it ends! After losing my anger I'm gonna reread it, and will enjoy it. Overall I think she did great job. (if she just killed Harry.. Conversation with dead people (King Corss) was so odd)
