Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows *Warning - Thread WILL Contain Spoilers*

She could also be like Bill, if it wasn't a full moon. It would have been nice to have some closure on that. (Still love the epilogue. :p)

^ Oh, true!

I loved the epilogue but still have so many questions I need answered  Maybe she's saving them for another book...

...I can hope, can't I? :p

i just can't help but wish she would've killed percy instead of fred. it's selfish of me but she can't just kill one and not the other.

I hope she goes through with the idea of creating a Harry Potter encyclopedia. :woot: I'd love to just read random facts about the world she created.

god I am so confused!! Should I buy the book now or wait until the sale?? Or borrow it from the library.. jesus help!! I'm cheap yes -_-

Btw what made dumbledore so unlikeable?? Can someone jsut list a dew small points.. no big explantaion needed!!

We were just shown a lot more of his history and he became a lot less "perfect" than he seemed. A lot of his intentions became less clear.

Personally, I loved that aspect of the book. Everyone seemed to view Dumbledore as this godly person who could do no wrong, which is just unreasonable for anyone.

Thank eu day!! =)
Btw after reading this book has dumbledore been seen as bad or good in your eyes??

Definitely good to me. :) I loved Dumbledore in the book.

:heart: Thanks because some people seem to think a bit less highlt of Dumble after reading this

My thoughts:

The book could have easily done away with the cheesy epilogue. I understand that JK didn't want people to think that she was going to write anymore, but I would have preferred everyone thinking about what happened in the future for themselves rather than the sap that was in that part of the book. Don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter & adore and admire JK Rowling but what the hell was that?

The deaths:

I was actually sad when Hedwig died! And Harry had to blow up the sidecar with her body in it, and his stomach lurched when he did it. Poor little Hedwig. I wasn't that bothered with Mad Eye's death, they didn't really go into it much. Dobby's death made me cry, especially Harry digging the grave himself. Crabbe & Creevey & I guess Lavender Brown, who was being "eaten" I guess by Greyback didn't affect me at all. Snape's death was too quick and wasn't given enough detail IMO. Fred dying!!!! Poor George. Lupin & Tonk's dying was a bit WTF for me, she didn't go into that at all.

I agree that it seemed kind of rushed, but she must have been under a world of pressure. And all up I loved the book. I think she tied up all of the loose ends nicely.

My favourite parts:

- Luna's bedroom with the "friends" painting on the roof
- Luna dancing at the wedding & Ron calling her 'good value'
- Hermione brushing her hand over the top of Harry's head as she walked into the tent in one scene when Ron had left
- Mrs Weasley calling Bellatrix a b*tch
- Ron calling Draco a two-faced bastard
- Kreacher turning good in the end & fighting with the other house-elves

WTF moments:

How did Ron & Hermione get down to the COS & destroy the goblet and then somehow make it back up to the school? In the COS book they had to fly up on Fawkes!

Oh, and I kind of always knew that Harry was a horcrux, had an instinct all along so I wasn't really shocked by any part of the book. Satisfied all up.

 :magic:

I loved Kreacher in this book! :woot: It was so cute how the trio grew to like him and how he even (almost) accepted Hermione.

Plus, it led nicely into to Ron and Hermione's first kiss later. Ron's speech about the house elves was perfect and Hermione realizing how much he cared...:crush: (And when Harry couldn't find them, I didn't think they died; I kind of thought they were off somewhere having sex. In the heat of the moment and everything.:rofl: A little ashamed of that.)

Poor little Dobby's death really touched me, too. Oh and that scene when Harry goes to seek Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest and 'uses' the Resurrection Stone made me cry as well.

And the epilogue - pretty pointless IMO.

I know, Harry heading bravely to death was so touching for me. I cried all through that part and found it hard to pay attention. Can't wait to re-read in a few weeks when I'm over the initial reaction to the whole thing.

I read the book so hurriedly because I couldn't wait to know how everything would end and now I'm so sad it's all over. Harry, Hermione and Ron accompanied me through nine years of mine life and now they're gone? (childish, I know...)

At least there's two more films to come...

I am half way through the book and trying not to read any more comments - my fault for looking at this thread in the first place

I found Harry's march to death touching as well. To be honest, I think he should have died, given a one-time chance to go back, complete his destiny by destroying Voldemort and then joining Dumbledore in King's Cross

The ending should have been with Harry rejoining the ones he loved most (parents, Sirius, Lupin) and the epilogue when the trio meets in the afterworld. (like a hundred years from now  )

Don't yell at me for wanting a depressing ending  but I just wish it would have been less cliched because JKR destroyed all barriers of "children's" books when she wrote Harry Potter. She truly wrote a series that people of all ages can enjoy.

Okay now, short review from me.

The good

1) I felt for the most part, the deaths were very well done. I know some people felt she didn't go into Lupin and Tonks death (and I just wish I knew how they died) but the way she wrote it (looking "pale and peaceful" really broke my heart because they died together.

The fact that Percy threw himself over Fred's body was just so gut-wrenching, the fact that he knew his brother was already dead but in way in hell was he going to let him get hurt even after that.

2) Harry's march toward death. Most people liked them part and I am no different, probably the most brilliant chapter in this novel. If I hadn't known the ending before hand, I would have thought that would have been it for Harry :p

Oh, and who can forget him whispering

"I am about to die"

I just about lost it and started bawling

3) I felt Luna's character was very well done on this one. She was just as dreamy as she used to be but her spirit was utilized to strengthen Harry as opposed to the last few books where she was used for comic relief.

4) Snape's relationship with Lily. Yes, I knew it all along because JKR used 'love' as a theme in this novel but it was nice to see that it really was true. I really liked the part where Snape produces a patronus and it was a doe.

Dumbledore: "After all this time?'
Snape: "Always"

5) Harry's time alone with Hermione. Yes, I a delusional H/HR fan but in any case, the graveyard scene was very sweet.

6) I loved Dumbledore in this book, the fact that he is not flawless, that he is human and has made mistakes.

Overall, most of the book was good. Yes, some part was a bit rushed by the good parts OUTWEIGHT :p the bad ones.

The bad

1) There were a couple of inconsistencies in that left me :blink: Where the hell did that come from? I find that Harry seems to be consistently forgetting things in this novel. There were a couple of plot holes that were unexplained as well.

2) Some parts were very rushed and I just wished Snape had died a more heroic death. Something very dramatic like throwing his body over Harry's when the snake as about to strike or something  I felt he deserved a better death than that

3) Um...where was Harry when Hermione was getting tortured? Ron was sobbing his head off. I felt that Harry didn't feel enough emotions when Hermione was getting tortured. Yes, he was trying to get help but....I just felt he didn't care as much as he should. If it had been my best friend that was going through such pain, I probably would have fainted.

4) The last two hocruxes went by VERY fast. Ron and Hermione came back and it was like 'TRA LA LA, we went down into the Chamber of Secret, stabbed the thing and came flouncing back' I was like "SINCE WHEN WAS IT SO EASY TO GET INTO COS? IT WAS LOST FOR DECADES"

And since when did imitating "hissy noises" constitute as Parseltongue?

The Ugly

GINNY.

I need not state my opinions that her character has been badly developed by JK and her transition from a "desperate loser who had to go out with Neville just to go to the Yule Ball" to some kind of a hot goddess that all the Hogwarts Boys pined for was non-existant.

Overall, GINNY as a character was very WTF for me  Even when she went to the Ministry with Harry in Order of the Phoenix, she didn't risk herself for him. She never has shown that she cared for him exceedingly. I'm not sure if it's just me but I felt that Ginny was tempting Harry more with lust than with love.

Before Harry leaves to find Hocruxes, what does she give him "A long searing Kiss" so he can remember her if he's tempted by Veelas? Wtf? Pretty damn childish to me when Ron and Hermione pretty much promised to follow Harry even if it means death.

Overall, I don't mind the notion of Harry+Ginny if she had only taken more time to develop Ginny or if she had written more scenes with them alone.

The epilogue was pretty decent until it came to an abrupt end.

Now that was NOT a short review :p In ten years, I hope to see ALBUS SEVERES POTTER AND THE GREEN HORNED LAMP :p

^ I'm crying again now. A mix of sadness and a lot of laughter, especially over your last sentence.

What were some of your favorite lines? I have to say that when DD says "You wonderful boy.You brave, brave man." i lost it i just started bawling. Also :
"After all this time?
Always!"

"Here lies Dobby, a free elf"
"Sometimes i think we sort too soon"
"look..at..me"

there are many others but i'm too lazy to type them.

PS:Also when Harry said "I'm going to die"
when he realized what "i opened at the close" meant

#97 have to say that you find points that makes me now even like that book. I really should start to reread.. There really was amazing moments - I love Luna and graveyard and all those Lily and Snape stuff. Do we have any clue of that before this book, I don't remember.

Yeah, epilogy really made point because of ending but it was still stupid, how it was writing I think. And those names.. wtf.
