The point is that Lemaire's Hermes was a success but he had to leave to focus on his own brand. So they brought in a designer with the same philosophy and instincts. I don't think the idea was ever to shake things up.
You all can moan and whine but the reality is that the woman who's been shopping Hermes will find everything she needs and wants here. She's probably already been buying The Row and Lemaire to wear together.
And the real point of luxury is that you all can complain but it won't really matter, most of us are priced out of having a relevant opinion about it.
There is quiet luxury and there is quiet luxury.
Even brunello cucinelli and loro piana are quite different in terms of aesthetics.
Assuming understated are all the same is missing the point.
This is a very different outing from lemaire's debut, that alone speaks volumes.
And I don't think van hee is talentless, the row has showed excellent results. So, we'll see.

Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski is the newest design chief. Her debut at Hermès seemed almost too tasteful. Everything was done with classy restraint, from the chaste blue-black leathers to the plain-Jane knit dresses to the ubiquitous turtlenecks (or a scarf wound tightly at the neck) — and that was the problem. Fashion is many things — hey, it’s a brasserie, a movie vehicle. It may even be a little boring. But one thing it is surely not is a church. Vanhee-Cybulski won’t lose perfection if she goes out on a limb. But she may lose her audience if all she cares about is looking perfect.
