Holga / Lomographic Cameras & Photography

thx guys. i think i'll pass on a holga for class, maybe get one for the novelty of it though...

what camera do you guys recommend for my class? perferrably one that won't burn a hole through my wallet...i'm on a student budget :]

i'm thinking of buying a holga for my beginners photo class...would that be a wise decision?
The holga (and other lomo cameras) supposedly help you develop composition in photos. I prefer the Diana, but a Holga works. With digital cameras, everything is too easy. I've seen some really cheap Holgas on Amazon...

I'm taking a photo class next semester as well.. Hopefully they let me play with my holga!

I love Holga's.They take such wonderful photos.

I have some of my holga photos I might scan in to show you.I just love how the shots end up looking.

Lomographic Cameras

I've been looking into getting a lomographic camera, but I'm just starting out and I don't know alot about the models they have out and how much they cost. I really want one with a fish eye with flash that will take 35mm film since it's the easiest to get in the stores.

Maybe something along these lines?
If anyone could help it would be great :flower:

bought an exboyfriend one that was the four eye lens, but it broke...

i have like 4 rolls of film from my diana that i need to process (ugh, money) but i think i'm going down to get them done tomorrow and im pretty excited i must say! ill post some when i get them back!
(love my diana, it seems durable too as i've beaten it up a bit  and its still works)

^ I got my boyfriend into them now and he bought us 2 Holgas and a Diana.

I've wanted to try a Diana for so long...are any of the Diana owners here have the Original? I have a Diana F+ re creation by lomography.

It's still nice, but I want the real thing...

Where can you get the films for Lomo camera's from in the UK?
Oh I really want to get one but I don't want to buy one if 1. I can't get any film anywhere and 2. If I then can't get the film processed. xx

^ There are places. I dont know specifically but when I visited my friend in London, we popped into a shop with him to pick up 120 film he had processed.

Also worse comes to worse, 35mm is processed pretty much anywhere. There are lomo 35mm cameras or you can do modifications on a lomo to take 35mm. I have a Holga with my own specs to run 35mm but you can also by kits to make it easier to convert it as well.

Any pro photography lab would have the film and the ability to process it, I would think. Some pros still use film a lot ... for the same reasons people like Holgas. Film imparts a special quality to the image ... it's very different from digital images.

i'm gonna buy one onto ebay very soon.
for something like 15-25€ ....
but i wanted to know how much the films ? because i thought one need special films for this, right ?

^ I have! :p I also sent Gius secret santa Holga with that modification inside it incase he wanted to try it out. And I hope he does. Mods are fun.

It came out well when I tried it. The first one I just did without the sprockets. The pictures came out interesting, there was odd soft fadings in the corners and on some pictures you can see a shadow of sprockets, some even in the middle of pictures.

I'm about to use a slide 36mm film, have them cross process and develop with sprockets framing the picture. Will let you know how it looks. Its my first time trying out cross process too. ^_^

it was a lot of fun for this roll/subject matter, but I think they're a little distracting for everyday use! :p

Lomography + Fashion

The resurrection of lomography as a trend has coincided quite appropriately with the current fixation on photographers such as Terry Richardson, Matt Irwin, and Jurgen Teller whose styles are mimicked by the new wave of lomographers.

Popular lomo cameras include the Diana and the Holga which can be purchased online and at Urban Outfitters.

What are your thoughts on this photographic style?
