How careful are you with your clothes?

I start out very, very careful but that level of care decreases in proportion to the number of times I wear/use the item successfully without mishap!

Ha, I thought this thread was about like careful as in deciding what to wear, which I am just a complete URGH at.

But OMG I am really not careful with my clothes - I go to art college for christ sake - and seeing as there literally is no other place to show off clothes (apart from maybe like town on a saturday....), I had this really nice suede-feel light grey jacket from John Lewis and I loved it and I wore it one day and someone got red acrylic paint on the very back of it. Then my nan tried to get it off with like some weirdo cleaning crap and it just made a mark that looked like a bruise, ha. It wouldn't fit now anyway.
I destroyed several shirts last year actually *it all comes back*
Several YSL and Ralph Lauren shirts got their cuffs dyed with procian dyes - permanent deliberately for dying clothes.
A cream silk shirt got completely destroyed as it got paint on it, I took it off to clean it and put it down in more paint, and more paint, and more paint. It's now a cleaning rag.
I'm really not careful with my treasured clothes :S

im not careful at all... ive been known to skateboard in 150$ shirts and 300$ jeans, or worse if im drunk... ive thrown myself down a handrail in a vintage YSL blazer and leather shoes before

Reasonably careful. I tend to machine wash things that say hand wash or dry clean on the labels & haven't had any disasters. I'm also not a big fan of ironing. We have a steamer for the clothes at the charity shop where I help out & thinking of getting one for home

What are the steamers like? Do they just like perma-iron them so they have like major creases in parts?
How do they work?

God, ironing clothes *SNORE* I do it every night.
I have just returned from spending an hour deciding what to wear tomorrow followed by ironing this green silk shirt. Silk is just a major disaster to iron. It's fine but you have to be careful you aren't creasing it again as you continue to iron
Love silk though. I have so much of it. And flyaway silk is so in this season

I'll sit down tomorrow and it'll literally just crease. Immediately. Diana Emanuel dress #2.

Clothes & perfectionist tendencies

Sometimes being a bit too high maintenance can become problematic... ...for the soul.

For example, let's say you buy a really neat shirt, but are too complexed to wear it because you're scared it will get used too quickly, or scared of having to wash it too soon (cause bad washing can fade away colors or ruin a fabric).... So it sits around in the closet for a really long time, till the right occasion comes...


... So you end up getting really stressed and exhausted the first time you wear that shirt. And you're scared of going out to eat with it, cause it might get stained. Or scared of running around with it, cause sweat could ruin it...

Obsessive a bit no?

How do fashionistas deal with this issue?! Curious to see what's your take on this.....

Cause that is kind of who I am. And it's annoying cause it stops you from enjoying your purchases!

Well, I just bought a skirt from Acne, loved it to death but I had to return it because it was too fragile. I knew I wouldn't wear it, also because it was $370, and that's paying a lot for something you will wear only three times. I don't mind wearing expensive pieces - only if I know they're going to fall apart quickly.

I'm always a little more careful with my more expensive, but that is just normal behaviour, I assume. When there is something I really love, I will try to get a good wear out of it, but still be extra careful, even if it's just something cheap.

Ugh, I'm terrible with my clothes. Before I ever moved out, I was so used to just being able to throw them down and have a maid pick it up after me. After realizing having to pick up clothes and hang them up and then pick the same damn thing up again a few hours later and hang it up, I realized how rude I was. I've gotten a bit better, but everything I own is always just being thrown about unfortunately...only pieces that were inherited from my family are the only things that have ever stayed in the closet.

I won't wear my favourite purse with my wool A.P.C jacket, it makes the wool go all bally. Although the said purse I enjoy beating up, it looks great faded, and occasionally I get oil paint on it and I'm okay with that.

It depends on the personal value, really. I treat the majority of my clothes like crap (ie: leave on my bed until it's like a pillow) but for silk, chiffon, and other reasonably expensive pieces I own I'll treat them well. I use a steamer as often as I shower..which, thankfully, is quite often.

i *should* take care of my stuff. no matter if it's H&M; Zara, vintage Gucci or custom made stuff. see how i use "should"?

my pants always end up being frayed at the end, which is why i decided against buying more pants which cost 200 something upwards. T-shirt wise, i love skater tees. their quality & fit is just awesome. cheaper than Designer tees. fulfill the same purpose.

but stuff just ends up dirty, one way or another. besides, i like to look more on the casual side, so not taking the greatest care helps.
