How Do You Walk In High Heeled Shoes?

Emery said:
BTW, someone asked me the other day how I walked in heels without swaying the way a woman does. The reason is that a guy's pelvic area is structured slightly differently from a girl's (has to do with not bearing children), so the articulation of the hip joint is different. The main effect on my walk - so I am told - is that I'm keeping my back much straighter than I used to in my pre-heel days.

The rod-straight back is another plus point my books. Friends call it my 'stoosh' walk. Purposeful, stoosh I will take it as it comes ;)

I helped train a TV to walk in heels and I can confitm that he does NOT waddle/sway like I do.

hehe, I remember when I was in high school, I wore high heels for the first time. And when you're in high school, you often run for all sorts of weird reasons. I almost broke my ankle once, I just twisted on one side, lost the balance.

It was pretty ouchy that whole day. One of my biggest phobia is to fall in high high heels. :ninja:

And Jay Alexander teaches a runway walk, which is something else altogether - a form of athletic exercise not found elsewhere!

To quote Eddie Izzard:
"If you're a woman and fall over wearing heels, it's embarrasing, but if you're a bloke, you have to *************!"

everyone compliments me on how I walk in and out of shoes.. They say I walk with my head up (not a snob) and I walk in a invisible line. I learned that from my grandma along time ago. So people are like you walk sooo good and I guess I swing my hips a little it's kind of embaressing  but it's a good thing

What do you mean by invisible line? Do you mean like a model?

Nikka I know what you mean! I can wear 2 inch heels now, but 3 inch heels are still too advanced for me!
I wore a pair of 3 inchers to a Christmas party last year and damnnnn I was in pain for the second half of the night. It was a dance party. lol Silly me, but the shoes were gorgeous, so there!
I think you have to dig in and get acclimatized to the pain.
What women have to go through...

Has anyone learned anything new about wearing heels?
Hmm..
Yoga exercises can help to improve walking in hh.
Especially that which makes the ankles, knees and the muscles in the pelvis area more flexible and stengthens them.

For longer walking distances lace-up boots are the best, because they give the best support. Just above ankle-length is enough, knee-length not necessary.

That's the correct way ... a single invisible straight line. I've seen some people walk like they have a football between their knees .....

no, that just looks like you're wanting to be a runway model, the correct way is to walk as you normally do...

How the heck do you walk in stillettos/high heels??

Can you ladies tell me the proper way to walk in high heels, so I dont topple over or sprain my ankle? Ive recently bought some heels, and while they are fine in the store, I am too chicken to wear them once Ive brought them home!
HELP!

I know how you feel. It took me AGES to learn how to walk in heels properly. Just try wearing them around the house for a few days and hopefully you'll get the hang of it :flower:

I wear flats waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than heels .. but when I do, I always think i'm walking funny in them, so I ask my boyfriend or someone I know well, and they say I look completely normal .. so, you may feel funny, but you probably dont look it!

As Kalista suggested, try wear them around the house to break into them (if you're prone to get blisters or what nots) .. but remember, theres more uneven or hard and smooth surfaces outside, not carpets!! So just prance around your kitchen or wherever else that has a hard surface.
