How Do You Walk In High Heeled Shoes?

^^ I hate when you have to deal with size and height issues! I have a lot of practice. ;) Although the highest I will go is 4". But when I do wear 'em high, I always put my weight a little forward toward the front of the shoes. This really helps. Before I am going to wear them out, I do some practice runs around my place with my weight being forward.

That sounds wierd. Wouldn't that put more pressure on the balls of your feet?

I gather you mean a US 5 not a UK 5 or Eu 38?

The smaller your feet are the worse a high heel is. Imagine the scenario if you had 4 inch long feet trying to wear a four inch high heel - you'd be on your absolute tiptoes (total eggagaration I know but you get my point). So I totally agree it's harder for people with smaller feet to wear the same height as someone with larger feet.

I'm a UK 4 - my wide feet normally mean I can get size 5 courts, but not sandals or open toes - but I find 3 inch quite low now. Only really noticed this after I replaced my four inch ankle boots with three inch ones. They feel so low it's weird. I still remember nearly dying after the first time I wore those 4 inch boots and it took me ages to get used to them. Now, that height feels normal.
I'm a EU 35, US 5, UK 2 and so on. It is really hard to find shoes that fit - if they don't fit, then there's a bigger risk of tripping and hurting your ankles. I did have a pair of black booties in size 36, but I sold them as I couldn't wear them for more than 4 hours. They didn't support my feet at all. I do have a pair of strappy Topshop platforms (the Burberry knockoffs), and they are great as they can be tightened. They are 4.5" I think, but the platform makes it easier.

I don't have a problem with balancing on any height of heel. However, I find that being only a size 3 UK means that the angle is steeper and they hurt more.

This is going to sound incredibly odd, but bear with me. I'm asthmatic and have a lot of problems with walking because I don't quite have a high enough oxygen intake to circulate properly for it. When my heels are higher, my muscles don't need to be stretched for my foot to lean upwards/go flat when I'm walking on a flat surface or uphill, so heels actually make me walk more easily.

However, I do have one foot one size bigger than the other, so I have to have strappy ones or shoes that really hold my foot in properly.

I dance (latin/ballroom) with a 3" heel and still feel like it's too low for me. The teacher is about 6'5 and I'm 5'0, so the higher the better! Imagine trying to get into ballroom pose and to reach his hand I'm stretching over my head.

I'm in mourning because my 4" black boots died. I replaced them with a pair of similar ones, but they're only 3" and I can really tell the difference. I much preferred the higher ones.

aw~ so what shoes where they? what did you replace them with?
I'm a boot lover but for some reason no matter the price stiletto boots totally kill me :(

It has taken me time to get used to heels, but now I'm very comfortable in them. I still don't wear them when running around the city, but I can go all day at work without a hitch. The higher the better!

If your afraid of heels you could always start with wedges first. I feel like wedges give you so much more support and stability.

Do you guys buy different sizes for heels and flats?? like.. im a 9 when it comes to heels and ussually they fit perfectly.. but when im buying flats im 8.5.. for some reason the size 9 feels too big... does anyone else have this problem??

It really depends yes. I buy 36.5 when it comes to boots because I feel like my toes will get claustrophobic -lol- if it's closed shoes I get 36 and sandals can go down to 35.5. It also depends on the brands

This just occured to me today. How do you walk down the stairs in heels?

Oh, boy it's a pain! Like, I find it difficult to know how to land my foot. I've found that landing on the toe makes for a comfortable landing, but I risk falling forward.

I would recommend landing toe and heel at the same time when walking down stairs.

Take a look at youtube "how to walk on high heels". There are some interesting stuff.

I can walk better in high heels that i can in flats! Lmao. And running in them is easier than walking in them suprisingly. I guess that can come in handy!

lol im 16 and i luv wearing heels way more then flats and i don't have problems walking in heels at all. i have a pair of 5" sandals which only cost me $25 and i can walk in them fine and don't have any problems at all =)

Oh my! I never thought of this! I wear a US size 5.5/6, and that's so funny... the angle is more since my feet are smaller/shorter... interesting.

How do you know that the heels you're about to buy, are confortable?
And is it better to buy shoes in the morning? So your feets haven't swollen yet? thx:flower:

i cant remember how i learnt to walk in heels but i can now.. if you're starting out its easier and more comfortable if you have something between the ball of your feet and the ground like a platform.. my highest heels are the most comfortable because they have a small platform under the ball of your foot..

i think starting out on concrete or a hard surface is easier because you dont slip! And if you get new heels and the sole is slippery wear them in on concrete or something like that.. I have nearly slipped so many times on wood and tiled floors with new shoes..And also start with shoes that have ankle straps or a boot so you dont have to worry about keeping the shoe on your foot and you can concentrate on walking

I cant dance without wearing heels lol i dont know why but its easier for me.. And i usually walk better when i'm drunk maybe because I cant feel my feet? lol I work 5 days a week and stand on my feet for 8 hours (with very good work shoes) a day which is fine but if I work more then that my heels start to hurt and by saturday i cant wait to get high heels on to take the pressure off my heels haha its like it evens it out..

I've always wondered if skinny girls can handle high heels more then bigger girls? I'm a bigger/curvy girl so if anyone has any thoughts on that?
