the pieces aren't always good...
but when they are...they are VERY good...

ie- the top in a size zero is really really big..
but the bottom in a 1 is really really small...
and some of the other tops i tried on in europe were ENORMOUS...
and completely unwearable in my opinion...
...

Tell me about! I have hard time figuring out the sizing as well.

Diani Boutique is a good place to buy IM online. (Am I making it more difficult to get?:ninja:)
www.dianiboutique.com

thanks loveletter

i find that site really difficult to navigate...:ermm:...

and the way they have everything shown is really unappealing to me..
makes everything look like a really dull potato sack imo...
:ninja:...

:woot: thanks for posting all your beautiful pieces softgrey! you wear Isabel Marant really well!

I think that blouse looks better on you than it does on me. We have the same size, but I'm very very petite. I had a really hard time deciding between the black and the ivory, both are really good! I completely know what you mean about the sizing ... some of her volumes are really out of control. And yet I have a cardigan that's supposedly one size fits all that is nearly pulling at the buttons.

I'm in love with your bracelet, that is really special. The store in SF that I shop at carries the jewelry but not a whole lot ... I certainly didn't see that bracelet or else I would have it, hahaha.

I'll try to post some pictures of some of my Isabel Marant later.

juliet - I emailed Bird, and they are already out of my size in those boots. Of course, it makes me want them more! I think I will just have to wait until it gets restocked for Spring. I guess if I wait, then I will know for sure if I really love them!

so sorry tourist! but, you are right--you will definitely know if you love them in the spring...I wonder if that Diani place got the boots (?) I agree with softgrey that the styling is really unappealing, and marant's beautiful tops usually end up looking pretty sac-like and unwearable.

^ I think it's really a problem for me when both the body and the sleeves are really voluminous. But the tops and dresses that are more fitted through the shoulders and arms work a lot better for me. I'll try to take a better picture, but the lace dress from my first post fits me like that, and I love it a lot! Too bad it kind of makes me feel like Wednesday Adams, which is why I usually add a cardigan or jacket

Hilarious store front at the Isabel Marant store in Paris (forget which one) from last spring.

Good idea for a thread, tourist. :flower: That blouse-y top you all got is really cute...there is a wool version in the mainline that I like a lot.

I also feel reluctant to put in the necessary effort to track this stuff down...

There are some fantastic pieces--I LOVE the wool/cashmere top I just got, it is designed really creatively--and then there some very basic ones of questionable quality. I got a few Etoile things from Anthropologie on sale, when they carried it for a brief spell, and really found them lacking, construction wise. (Plus, they were about three times more $$$ than everything else in the store. :ninja:)

Quality of the mainline is another story though...I just wish I could have it at Etoile prices....:P

^ what top is this??? is there a picture from the runway?

Here are a few more of the items I have from the main line. The dress from the first page is this dress in black (elle.com:(

the black version of this (elle.com:(

which I'm wearing under the Dries vest here:

And then another top from last Spring. And finally, 2 necklaces, one is the fish necklace which I think a few people have here. The 2nd necklace is almost like a scarf.

I love the dresses, tourist. I have that fish necklace too! :P

Edit: the second necklace is like a scarf you say! What do you mean?

This is the top that Hanne and I have--I posted it in the SS thread. The neckline drapes so beautifully, and it's super soft. I would love to get another top in a similar shape.

laika - oh yes! I know that top. I tried it on last fall but passed on it, because it was a little too drapey on me ... I think I needed a 0, but the store wasn't carrying that size at the time. Really nice find! I remember I loved that outfit so much when the runway pics came out ... but I'd never have the guts to wear long leather gloves

laika- you know how much i love that top...*sigh*
would never work on me...but i love love love looking at it....
plus it is just styled so incredibly well in that picture...
*do we know who styles IM shows?...

i am still so sad that i never found the fish~~~

thanks for those pics tourist...
:woot:...
first of all-
you MUST wear your wednesday addams dress with no jacket or sweater...
or all the loveliness is lost...and it is TOO lovely to hide like that!...
^_^

the other dress looks really really good with the seq vest...
it's really perfect isn't it...?
and looks so good on you!

IM and dries compliment one another often i find...

the vest i am wearing in the first pic i posted is also dries...
i think it tends to be the same customer for both...
all the shops that carry IM seem to carry all the same brands...

***there seems to be a little cult that has developed that i suddenly find myself a part of...
>>>>>>>>>>>:ninja:.........................................

^agree, tourist, i would love to see that dress worn without the jacket.Could be cute with some skinny pants underneath toughen it up a little.

softie, I don't see why it wouldn't work on you. You don't actually need square shoulders to wear it, because you pull the neckline forward to get the draped effect....so the sleeves end up sitting exactly where they are supposed to.

I would totally wear it with long leather gloves if I had them....it's a rather "sweet" top, and the leather gives it a a bit of edge. B)

yes, I know I should wear the dress without covering it up! The sleeves are really pretty. The full effect of the dress does come off as little girl like, which is why I tend to start covering it up. I'll try your suggestion, Laika, of pairing it with some skinny pants. Although it's much longer on me than on the model, so it might not work out for me. Maybe ankle boots?

Laika, yes the top is very sweet, with the puff shoulder. I think that was another reason I decided to pass on it, I don't really have items in my wardrobe to "toughen" it up. I think it was also long but narrow on me, so it was too tight around my hips. This is another fit problem I've had with IM's non voluminous pieces. It's best for someone with narrower hips. If you ever find long leather gloves, you should definitely get them and wear them with that top! It's sooo good.

Softgrey, I heard that the fish necklace is a staple jewelry piece for IM. Perhaps Laika could keep an eye out for you during her Paris trip?? I completely agree that Dries and IM compliment each other. They both use lots of ethnic references, play with embroidery, and have an overall bohemian feel. Although IM feels younger and girlier, whereas Dries is definitely made for women.

This fall and probably for Spring, I'm leaning more towards where IM intersects with APC. I guess I'm feeling more minimalist!

beautiful thread tourist...

and thanks everybody for all your pics...
yet another thread to come and dream in...

this is the EXACT reason why i know it would not work for me...
i am too short waisted and it will be too long and be an issue at the hips...:ermm:...
...

tourist- you read my mind...i was SO thinking it would be great with ankle boots...
maybe a little heel will offset the longer length...that's what i usually have to do myself...:innocent:...
and i really like laika's suggestion of blk skinnies...
why not try it and post a pic?...
:flower:

* i did check around for the fish while i was in london- but no luck...
if you happen to see one will you make a little note for me laika please?...
thanks!...

there was this lovely top I got on yoox that I had to send back because it was just a titch too small, real bummer. I love the subtleness of her clothing and the way it hangs on the body.the fact that often she uses the sleeves as a design element really appeals to me.

I have the pdf's from helfina and satine and must say that after seeing you guys wearing the pieces they look so, so good on you, but boring on the hanger and mannequin's.

I know next season has some really neat looks that I like a lot.

if this is a cult following, i'm in...

luckyme - the tsf'er Juliet was nice enough to send me Creatures of Comfort's PDF, and it's a lot better than Satine's, if you want any of us to send it to you. But still, not a whole lot of pieces from the runway. It seems like the stores mostly buy Etoile with a few of the safer runway pieces. What looks do you like from next season? I know I will like a few things once I see it in the stores, but for now, it's hard for me to identify any specific items or outfits I like. I felt the same way about fall ... whereas, previous seasons, I knew straight from the runway what I wanted to look out for. Maybe the styling has become too layered?

I tried on the Wednesday dress with slim black pants and ankle boots, as suggested. I tried to take pictures, but they came out so dark it's not really worth bothering. Anyway, I like the concept, but the execution was off ... I think I need a slimmer (but not skin tight) pair of black pants or black jeans. Thanks for the suggestions! I will try again when/if I get the right kind of pants. But it did look cute with tights and ankle boots, I'll try wearing that out next time

I wore my new Etoile dress today, and I really love it! But it's unlined and rather itchy, which is probably ok since I'll usually be wearing it with a light layer underneath

ok- so i need to know how much that dress was...
because i saw i in london...
but it was over 300 pounds...which would hav ebeen more than $600 ...
so-obviously i could not consider that..
as you say- it isn't even lined...so not a $600 dress...
very nice- but not $600 nice- you know?...

but i really want to know how much it is here....

also- i would have chopped off about 4 inches.....

but it's great tourist...thanks so much for posting the pic..
love it with the booties of course....

^ do you really think I should shorten it? And that much???

I paid $420 for it, which I knew was probably already overpaying, because this store tends to mark things up a lot ... after I bought it, I saw that Creatures of Comfort has the cotton version of this dress for $370. $600 is much too much for this dress, $400+ was already questionable, but I loved it so much
