Jean-Paul Gaultier F/W 2002.03 Paris

^^^ That’s an understatement LOL

Such an endless parade of concentrated goodness. His immaculate run from the late-90s to the end of the 2000s-- and that includes his supreme, impeccable Hermes, was untouchably, unimaginably and untoppably chic. There are enough design goodness for several collections in this one offering; yet every look, every piece, and every footwear unites so strongly to produce a cohesive whole. Nothing looks unneeded, unwanted, and undesirable; Just take a gander at Nicolas’ current Vuitton slop attempting a similar eclecticism, with its desperate cries for attention and ragtag mix-and-match, and it’s the difference between Gaultier’s sophisticated, chic woman and Nicolas’ 4yo child piling on everything for dressup. Gaultier was that great back then— and not a conical bustier nor tattoo-print in sight. So many have copied, ripped off and blatantly stole from, which just proves how relevant of a visionary his archives remain.

THIS is the gaultier i choose to remember. not the lazy, tacky caricature he became sometime in the late 2000s. collections like these and spring 98' HC always remind me that yes, he was doing amazing work at one point lol

Thanks for posting this! This was definitely a favorite of mine’s. I remember seeing this on Fashion Television w/ Jeanne Becker. The clothes on the rack were vintage pieces, and the dresses can we worn as knee-length or ankle-length, depending on the strap. He modeled those looks after a mail-carriers sack, if I remember correctly. All the looks here are fantastic, esp, the tailored denim w/ the extended cufffs. And the dark make-up and piles of crimped hair..I’m a fan..:)

^^^You must be the only one on earth that will openly admit to have watched Jeanne Becker's Fashion Television LOL …The rest of the cool kidz would never— even on pain of death….

This collection's show however…. Just so awkward. What was the point of the women hurriedly-- with some struggling, to hanging their jackets on the hangers on that revolving clothesline?!?!? The less experienced ones were all thumbs and really shows that they are so uncoordinated, so uncomfortable to watch: Who knew hanging a coat on a mechanical clothesline would be so hard for some…??? I never know the names of models, but the one closing (Agynes?) slapped her coat on that hanger like a raging dom the way that it was meant to be done.
