Katoucha (former model and muse of YSL) found dead

I know Waris Dirie did an article about FGM in Readers Digest but I don't remember one by Katoucha...

katoucha was going around in her home country trying to convince women to stop doing it. but she said she was having problems since a lot of those women get their money to live from performing that horrible procedure.
so she started getting serious death threats when her book was published

it's so incredibly sad. when i first heard this,i didn't know the name but when i saw the images accompanying the story,i remembered her....quite fondly in fact. she was one of the first faces i recall when i initially got into fashion,being the muse saint laurent. and i believe she was also included in robert altman's pret-a-porter. its terrible.

i do hope they investigate it to the fullest and not just jump the gun saying it was just an accident. it could be....but considering the human rights campaigns she was doing,i would not suspend all the possibilities. otherwise,that would make feel as if they're not caring because she's black and a foreigner. and we all know france has it's reputation with african immagrants.

Like when I knew that Isabella Blow passed, I almost cried when I heard Katoucha Niane's death. I discovered her 3 years ago in a tv show called "Top Model 2005", the french version of America's Next Top Model. She was the french "Tyra Banks" and was so amazing.
She was posh and beautiful, but also started a struggle for African women's right regarding genital cutting (She wrote a book about that also )

That is also where I discovered her. I was in shock when I read this yesterday on CNN.com--utter shock. Rest in peace, Katoucha. You were a beautiful and brave soul.

It was said she didn't know how to swim... Not to mention she was quite drunk when she got back from the party, so even if she could swim she could have drowned

OMG! I was hopeing that she wouldn't be found dead. She was one of my favorite models. She was a big part of Black Models working it in the 70's & 80's. Not to mention she was my favorite Designers favorite. Yves Saint Laurent! What a pityful shame.
