Lucky you, you were able to see the performance. All I saw was a small screen with Joe on mute here on the internet. I cannot watch the show on mtv.com because the streaming is not available in my country and our local MTV isn't showing the show live.

I loved it. Mostly because she confused the hell outta the celebrities but all the fans loved it. Especially Katie Holmes, but then again she looks pretty confused all night. Why is she there?

I think "Joe" ate shi!t jumping off the piano after the beer. Kinda funny since I was just thinking she should be careful spraying that stuff everywhere it's gonna get slippery and then boom! Popped right back up like a champ though.

I'm sure Gaga will get a lot of sh*t for staying in character as Jo the entire night but I for one loved it. The performance was fantastic aside from the slip. She truly is fearless. B)

Gaga/Jo, Bruno Mars and Beyonce's performances were the only enjoyable parts of the show imo. I don't know what it is but every time the VMA's are in L.A. they are lackluster.

^ I am so glad to see today how much praise she is getting for last night, I was afraid people would not 'get it' or would be distracted by the Amazing Spiderman show that the despicable Chris Brown put on!! (Congratulations to Jay Z for not applauding for him!!) So Gaga stole the show again- even with a 'high concept' performance!

Looking back at the show, I think it is a little surprising how many of what we can assume are top music people had no idea what was going on when the show started! I mean, Joe Calderone is hardly new in the Gaga Universe- don't you guys follow what the most successful music star on the planet is up to??... B)

Lady Gaga Was a Real Drag: There was no compostable clothing, perilously high platforms or view-blocking hairdo to be seen from Lady Gaga. In fact, there was no actual Lady Gaga to be seen, period. Instead, the superstar outdid herself yet again by sending her alter ego, Jo Calderone, to open the show in her stead, and managed to stay in character as the greasy-haired, rolled T-shirt-sporting lover boy throughout the duration of the show—and yes, that included when she hugged Kanye West (for winning, ironically, Best Female Video), while bopping in the audience to Beyoncé's "Love on Top," and even while presenting the Video Vanguard Award to Britney Spears.
It was during the latter when she gave Britney a serious once-over and even tried to plant a kiss on the winner's lips—something she nearly got away with.
"I've done that already," Britney said, pulling out of the smooch at the last minute. But while Britney proved game (enough), even better than watching Jo ramble around the stage for the first five minutes of the broadcast was watching the quizzical, bemused and increasingly confused celeb reactions caught during cuts to the audience. Well done, Gaga
