it's all just too much. i adore Gaga and i love her over-the-top costumes and outfits and performances and personas --- but this whole "ARTPOP" era feels like she's just grabbing every image that springs to mind and trying to embody it. there's no cohesion, no message. it's kind of all-over-the-place in a way that doesn't fit with her general "out there, but all tied together in some neat philosophy of style" manner. this is disjointed and ... desperate? it just seems like costume after costume after costume, just for the sake of it.

I so agree with this. I'm every bit of a Little Monster but can't help but feel she's trying too hard to still be that crazy pop star with outrageous outfits. Before, there was some sort of accordance or harmony with her outfits and how she portrayed herself. I was just thinking the other day that I somehow miss the Born This Way era because she had some sort of message with her outfits. It was dark, gritty, and it showed to the world the essence of her album at the time. This era is just way too over the top even by Gaga standards. One second she's this Aphrodite inspired Renaissance woman and the next she's this weird Gothic Marilyn Manson wannabe.

I hate to say this, but I feel she's slowly losing her throne. She's over the top at this moment but she doesn't have the actual album and performances to back it. Although I do think her album is actually pretty good and dare I say it, better than Katy Perry's Prism by a long shot, it doesn't have the instant catchiness, ingenuity, and easiness of the last albums.

Didn't mean to go on this rant. She's still awesome in my book, but she should tone it down.:flower:

I actually think that this era she has toned it down several notches. Even with 'Born This Way' she didn't have just one style that she stuck to. Her most cohesive era was her debut, The Fame.

As for the music, for me it is the strongest release of any of the 'pop' girls and one of the best of the year and her performances have been great especially vocally. The only thing that isn't faring as well is how the media have been treating her, but a backlash unfortunately seemed inevitable. Meh.

....

^I do agree that it's definitely the strongest out of all the popstars. And the media definitely haven't been treating her as well as her counterparts (ahem giving Rihanna the Icon Award and calling her the voice of our generation ahem). And yes! I was actually talking to my friends earlier saying that this era have actually showcased her vocal ability greatly especially on the actual studio versions. You can hear her truly giving it her all in a lot of the tracks.

ok ... maybe i'm starting to get it, actually. literally every moment she steps outside she's trying to be a unique piece of walking performance art. perhaps there's some cohesion in the commitment. maybe the ARTPOP era is about performance art moments on a constant day-to-day basis. she's essentially in costume 24/7. it's one giant piece of art?
