Leighton Meester

to each his own, of course. i still think that this is the best she's looked in a long time though, but that's just me. apart from ashley greene and nikki reed (who normally don't do anything for me fashion-wise) she was clearly the best dressed of the night at the tca's.

Just because I think this look doesn't appear to be sophisticated, does not mean that I don't think it looked good. It was young, cute and fun - she looked like she liked what she wore, but by no means do I think it looked like a $10,000 (which is probably how much it cost). I think she was one of the best of the night.

Her fashion choices are always risky but they mostly pay off. I just don't think this outfit looks as expensive as it probably was. Hence why I said it you told me it was by BCBG (or any other mid-tier label) I would have bought it - Louis Vuitton is certainly not a mid-tier, contemporary label!

^ i agree Cicciolina :flower:

I've always liked Leighton - she's young, fun, cute. But for me, that's it - young, fun and cute. There isn't that something more or that innate sense of je ne sais quois, that air of sophistication or real presence when it comes to Leighton's style.

I see it in some celebrities, Clemence Posey, Chloe Sevigny, Eva Green, January Jones (to name a few), and i feel that Leighton and pretty much all of the GG cast - well heck, most of young hollywood! lack that.

Which is not to say that Leighton's style is bad, I think she's finding her feet, experimenting etc. But I do think that perhaps due to her age, or because she's still playing around with fashion without a clear sense of style, that it seems trendy at times - and doesn't pop as it would.

Idk..but when i see someone like Cate Blanchett wear something experimental i think WOW! Whereas sometimes with Leighton I think doh!. All about presence imo, and at the moment she doesn't have it.

She looks good for sure, it looks cute and she looks cute, but I certainly do not look to her for fashion inspiration the way I would Amanda Harlech or Daphne Guinness (women with that presence and special something)

if she looked good and was undoubtedly one of the best dressed of the night then why does it matter if her dress looked like it cost $10,000 or $100?

clearly this argument is going nowhere.

Hee. I find it funny when people argue over this girl's style; she clearly does not dress to end up on any best dressed list (even though she does) and she is just having fun and taking advantage of her youth to experiment. It's like complaining water is too wet. It can be bad, but I don't think I've seen her make anything tacky or tasteless. She always looks like a doll. Anyway, new promo for the VMAs with Cobra. She wears edgy glam well.

I think you've been misunderstanding my comments.

The cost is irrelevant, the higher the cost does not always result in a better look (obviously!). I just pointed out that it didn't strike me as a very 'Louis Vuitton' dress and that it could be any mid-tier brand, but it is just amusing that it probably cost more than it actually looks.

It's a teen awards show. She's meant to look cute and fun and she fits the brief.

this is a thread and a forum about her style afterall...

Check out the new MTV VMAs 2009 promo video featuring Gossip Girl hottie Leighton Meester and Cobra Starship tackling the Broadway musical West Side Story.
The vid was taped at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn and made use of a vintage New York City subway car. The dance moves were choreographed by the spectacular Wade Robson.
Cobra is nominated for 2 VMAs including Best Pop Video (alongside Britney Spears, Lady Gaga Beyonce.)

I guess some people just missed the memo .

Anyways.

I really hate the makeup in those latest pics. Does nothing good for her. Her own makeup or her makeup in GG is on the other hand usually flawless.

advo, i agree they usually make her up on GG so well, and she usually keeps it minimal herself.. or she does the smoky look.
