Blake is pretty in an awkward yet charming way and thus, the average audience feels like they can connect with her while Leighton is more of an intimidating pretty.

So how do you explain that people are obsessed with Mischa Barton, Jessica Alba and Jessica Simpson who are (despite the later two not being my type) extraordinarily and intimidatingly pretty?!

I think it's Blake's character and as you said awkward charme that makes peopel love her. Blair is in my opinoin more like a "cute face", average kinda girl. But I always thought Rachel Bilson is average "cute" two.
