Loeffler Randall tapped to create accessories line
Tuesday, August 21, 2007

(NEW YORK) Target is right on the bull's-eye for its next designer collaboration, tapping Loeffler Randall designer Jessie Randall to create an accessories line for the retailer, which will debut in early 2008. The collection is being previewed to long-lead press Wednesday at the Target Studio on Seventh Avenue. Randall follows in the footsteps of Rafé New York, Devi Kroell, and most recently, Hollywould and Dominique Cohen, all of whom have designed more wallet-friendly product for the mass-with-class retail giant. Randall was recently inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America and in June won the organization's coveted Swarovski Award for Accessory Design. The designer also gave birth to twin boys Casper and Liam on June 19, two weeks after the awards gala. "It's been the best year of my life so far, from winning the CFDA Award to this," she gushed at the CFDA new members party held at Diane von Furstenberg's studio last month. "June was a huge month for me, in every sense of the word." Looks like it's about to get even sweeter.

pics or anything? haven't been impressed so far with these target desiger bags...maybe if they were actually some sort of natural looking REAL leather.....and not PVC animal or plastic patent...

images from elle.com. shoes look nice. bet the bags will be popular.

are they leather or PVC? the first shoe and that knotted bag are kinda cute

the first shoe looks comparable to the collection stuff, but the rest is meh.

at target prices, i doubt you will find anything except pvc.

i've been loving l.r. from afar, so this is pretty exciting that it's coming to target.

i love the vintage inspiration. esp the first pair of shoes.

i doubt they would use leather at target, but i wish they would. would make these things so good.

a lot of the shoes at target use real leather uppers but these look PVC

like the rose gold flats and the rosette ones in a dark color...but the bags suck

Why can't Target collaborate with a designer that makes simple, clean, REAL leather bags? Why does every bag collection have to have 50 pockets, buckles, studs, bows...etc?

^^^
SO true. I figure they add the bells and whistles to distract from the cheap faux leather.

The items are nice in theory but they are so...shiny.

I feel like we hear about a new one of these target collaborations every week

i think i need to see these in person before i judge

because then what would the point of a collaboration with TARGET be? the whole point is to create LOW PRICED items designed by high end designers for the LOW end market. do you really think the vast majority of people shopping at target would go for a simple solid colored shift dress in silk or black sleek bag in leather? you go to boutiques and higher end stores for that. there's a place for everything and these collaborations have hit the right spot.

^
well quite frankly I think that's an elitist view. Not everyone shops at Target because they want to, some shop there out of necessity. And just because you're earning a low income and thus unable to shop at high end boutiques, doesn't mean you want something trussed up with a lot of studs and embellishments on it. If Target were to offer sleeker more stream lined things (and sometimes they do) it doesn't mean people wouldn't purchase them because they are going there for something OTT.

i predict this will be the best selling accessories designer collab that target has done to date.....

:)

hey all, i just wanted to let you know that i'm in my hometown in IL (rockford) and the local target store had a lot of the loeffler randall items out: the woven satchel in brown and cream, the bow clutch and the rosette clutch, as well as a brown hobo type bag. i was so surprised to see them out; they weren't displayed with any special marketing materials, just put out on another rack with everything else! (sorry, no shoes yet.)

anyway, i took a good look at everything and took notes. there's definitely no leather in this collection (i wasn't really expecting any, since it's tarjay.) all the dark brown items look more like brown patent (but not as stiff) because it's a bit shinier than it seems in the photos. there's also a pebbly-type texture on the dark brown, sort of like an animal skin, but very subtle...you can't see it unless you are up close. overall, the hardware on these bags is much nicer than expected, and is surprisingly heavy: the bow clutches have a nice small silver nameplate in the back with 'loeffler randall for target' engraved on them, and the woven satchel have these little copper colored balls at the end of their strings that are heavy and have little 'loeffler randall for target' letterings engraved in them.

as far as individual items go, i liked the woven satchel the best; rather, it looks more expensive than it is. it comes in the brown patent and the cream color, which is much more matte than the brown. at the bottom there are four little metal 'feet' that i thought was a nice touch. i felt the brown patent actually looked more luxe than the cream, which seemed a little cheaper in the florescent lighting. the bow clutch comes in the rose gold metallic and the brown patent 'skin and has a chain strap (that is not detachable); the chain is quite heavy. (i thought the rose gold items looked quite nice, if metallics are your thing...they sort of embrace the 'cheap and cheerful'-ness of the whole 'style on the cheap' thing.)

the little rosette clutches came in the most textures: brown patent, rose gold, a true gold metallic and a sort of metallicized linen (like the shoe above.) i didn't really take a look at these, since i'm not into rosettes (sorry!) the design is not my thing, but i'm sure it would be charming on the right person.

one thing about these bags that i don't like categorically is the lining: it's a horrid pebbly gold type of thin pvc fabric. luckily it's on the inside!

i couldn't decide if i wanted or should get anything and was in a hurry, so i just bought two bags and will probably return one or both (i'm saving up.) it's funny how your perception of items change once you see them in real life...i never thought i'd take a shine to the brown patent but they might end up working nicely with the general earthiness of my wardrobe.
