London Street Style #1

I love people who just don't care what others think and there's so many people like that in London or so it seems :).

the only problem i have about London is the fact that the style is far too hipsterish and a lot of the photos seem to illustrate shoreditch rather than london.

I like what garance dore shoots and I think what they've shown is a better mixture. As I've said eternally throughout this thread, this style of fashion is not representative of all of London. As I, and many many others have said, the majority of the pictures have a strong East End/Hoxton/Shoreditch bent to them. Even the people they shoot outside of that area, tend to dress in that style. Just like the people who shoot Parisian's shoot for the most part a very specific type of Parisian style. It would be nice to see more mix but....

i agree meg.. i actually like those garance dore photos as well..

some may label them boring but i think they are more representative of the majority of people you actually see walking around London...

not everyone is as quirky or out-there as this thread and the majority of the blogs would have us believe..

good observation about parisian streetstyle as well.. ;)

the only thing I don't like with london streetstyle (at least from what I've seen in this thread) is that it's too trendy
people tend to wear too many trends at once and a lot just come out looking like they put too much thought into their outfits.. they don't have that casual look

That's because London's not a casual city. People take time with their appearance as you never know where the day may take you.

I love London, and it's my favourite place in the world but I think the style is a bit bleurgh sometimes. It depends whe you go though too, I go a lot cos I have relatives down there and people are better dressed in winter I thinks.

i've been going back through this thread, and as much as i love the pictures, the comments are annoying me. so many people are saying that london's fashion is boring and 'messy' and that londoners try to hard. it was really annoying me because i'm proud to be a londoner. london is known for it's edgy, quirky style and carefree attitude. if you dont like london street style, then why are you on a 'london street style' thread!?!?

I'm actually in London and I must say that the best dressed people are in Covent Garden and in Spitafield (and some walk along the Thames River) xD

"Finally..... My Favorite Shot From London" July 21, 2008 -
- The Sartorialist

Sometimes the business of running a blog can effect the day-to-day of blogging.

On my recent trip to London I was able to find a few good shots (even though it rained for hours everyday). However, something fell-thru on my GQ page so I had to switch those trip images to the magazine.

Since GQ just hit the stands I can finally post this image.

What I love about this shot is it's timelessness.

Not that it is so great but that it is actually timeless.

Without the benefit of cars, or the way other people are dressed in the background to put it in a clear period context, I can imagine someone 40 years from now having a hard time deciding if this was shot in 1983 or 2008.

I read a lot of comments here like "I grew up in the 80's and I don't want to go back." Well, I grew up in the 80's also and I think it would be interesting to hear this young man's romantic vision of that decade.
