Marc Jacobs F/W 07.08 NYC

one of the best shows i've attended!!!!! waited forever and then when the curtains were finally opened, the models were all standing there still like a beautiful illustration-- a very powerful moment. the visuals and music were very dramatic. i felt challenged and pushed by them-- which happens rarely. the boy knows how to put on a show!!!

loved the exaggerated contrasting proportions-- very tailored, long and lean with big hats, stacked shoes, big clutches (all the accessories were TDF- even the "boring belt"!). i loved that daywear was very menswear and eveningwear was very grown up and sophisticated (hallelujah no more saccharine baby doll). the contrasting proportions of the clothes vs. the accessories, the stillness of the models poses, and their languid walk communicated both a poignant frailty as well as a dignified strength. quite a departure from the usual rebellion and grunge.

i did long for something less retrospective...but reserve judgment until i see the pieces upclose. marc's signature offbeat details may make up for the nostalgia. overall i think the show was more brave of marc than one would predict, and expect that the collection will be an easy, chic, and wearable one for his signature line fans.

as a whole, the collection really does nothing for me. like many already said about it being just...old...dowdy...and that one red-ish outfit that mixed all the geometric prints- horrid!

i do have to admit to liking the red skirt diana wore, it's divine! and irina's ensemble, with the black sequined pants (like long versions of the chanel hot pants!) with the yellow gloves and green shoes- great color and texture combination.
...but two looks is hardly enough to make me love the collection

just watched the video - I need to look at them closely later in the trunk show, but...proportion!
Marc probably used the skinniest models in all and they were all mean and lean. I liked the pointed collars...a little Jil Sander looking but with Marc's details. It's a very wearable collection as long as pairing with HIGH heels. The evening wear is solid and he did only short or long. There was no middle ground. I like it! (but I don't like the music he used. the entire show could have been so different with a different piece.)

It was so amazing. I think the music was Phillip Glass again...um..Tyson Ballou was here along with many other people. It was funny because after the show there was a renegade fashion show held outside hahah

this collection is THE collection

I love the lines and colors of this collections and was getting fed up of the whole tacky 80s revival......marc jacobs killed it with style..

I love the fact that he is doing a collection for sophisticated women. Not teenagers (finally!). I see many outfits so office appropriate in addition to the glamorous evening suits/gowns. It's a celebration of being mature and being real women.

so 90s!
is it so wrong that i think Marc looks really cute in the show and that i want him? :innocent:

 Bravo!

I see functionalism, all the vibe of art deco era and somewhat also soviet references! :woot:

^^^i felt the soviet influences too, but couldn't place it and wondered if it was all the russian models.

I like this collection as a whole and I like alot of the individual pieces. Probably because it's a departure from what he'd been doing in the past two seasons which seemed so heavy. I also love the colors here esp in the first looks (shades of Miu Miu Spring 05). I usually can not see myself in Marc's runway looks but there are a few here that are very me.
And the styling is just magnificent, imo.

Im not quite sure how I feel about this collection yet, but alot of times thats how I feel after viewing Marcs collections for the first time with the exception of Spring 07 which blew me away from the start, I think the bags and shoes are wonderful no question about that, and there are many nice pieces in this collection love the teal finale dress, and I do like the way it was styled it was very chic but Im just not sure that its where fashion is right now but Marc always likes to keep us guessing and thats certainly what he did!

i think the collecytion is perfect for him. he akways come out from the left field-he is never typical. his collection will once again be filled with dada-inspired irony. imagine all these young celebs, young women wearing old clothes. imagine older women wearing
even oldser clothes that still look to hip for them. there is something ladylike but gothy , vampirish and adrogynous about the collection. its punk, its socialite--its everything!. this collection rocks.

^^wow, that is so perceptive. i totally think DADA too when i see his pieces and especially at the show.

Fantastic.
I was looking at alot of the NY collections and it just seemed to be watered down versions of last season.
But Marc came up with something like this - it's gorgeous, so fresh and clean.

Wow...:woot: I really like it in general, and there are some outfits I'm in love with...:wub: Thanks for every pics!:flower:

Very different from what I expected. The hats were nice, but seemed repetitive. My favorite look was what Freja wore. Absolutely elegant and beautiful!

(and Marc is looking good.....so so good :ninja: !!!)

This reminds me nothing of MJ. However, this is the first collection that I've loved out of him in YEARS.
