Marc Jacobs F/W 07.08 NYC

Well after seeing the whole collection..I dont hate it..its very "mature"...I guess the hats threw me off..plus seeing very tailored looks after seasons of easy fits..it takes time to get used to..I do appreciate the talent of doing extremely diff concepts each season..unlike other dedigners that become predictable..so yay for him!

I always love to read people's reactions to Marc's collections. So many strong opinions. I personnally love this collection (but I came of age fashionwise in the 70's when YSL was everything!) especially the pants outfits and the handbags.

This is the best collection I've ever seen from him. Granted I haven't seen many of his collections, but wow this is amazing. It is so decadent, sophistacated, and high class. It makes me think of the Jazz Age or something.

Indeed it does ... which reminds me of how a couple of us were mocked awhile back in one of the trend forecast threads by a rather senior member for saying how we hoped the sleeper 20s trend would pick up steam  I noticed style.com had a little feature on the 20s trend too ...

:p :innocent:

So much of this is really lovely and sophisticated ...

i'm not a fan of Marc Jacobs but this is definitely one of his best collections.
i love the dresses.

There are only a few things I would like for myself but I can appreciate the rest, it all looks very well done. Like the bags although I shutter to think of the ostrich prcies! Some of the shoes look nice too.

wow!! i am really impressed. its very elegant and reminiscant of the 20's and 30's, but also it has components of high fashion of the 80's as well. Also, contrary to others belief, i think the styling is what may make it look more frumpy than a young person would wish for, and i doubt anyone would wear this head to toe marc. i am excited to see what twist real people will put on wearing the clothes. i also love the jewelery and bags. i cant wait for marc by marc. i have a feeling its going to be very different, just think of his spring lines. his marc jacobs line was very clean and white, and marc by marc had lots of patterns and assorted pieces--im excited!

this feels like a mix between YSL and hermes

I'm not that fond of this collection but because it's marc jacobs and everyone loves him I'm sure that some stuff will become some sort of trend

but seriously, I like the 30's influence and a bit of the siluette but some stuff are really hideous, it's like something a grandmother would wear, like this one

style.com

it's so shapeless and unattractive

i think this a new dirction for fashion- movind away from the horrible 80's stylesw we are currently entrenched in

I like this, but primarily because it's nothing I can see my imaginary Marc customer wearing. As others have mentioned, as always, if you sit down with it, you can spot influence after influence, but at least this time around, they're looks/trends that appeal to me. I don't have the depth of fashion history knowledge to pick up on a lot of it, but at times it seems like a less precise version of this spring's Miu Miu blended with some Erte illustrations.

This is all great in theory, but (and I know this could come across as snooty) is the average Marc customer really going to be able to adapt these looks and the old time elegance/rigidity that they conjur up for real life? Someone else hinted at it, but I'd imagine that most women who are already doing just that aren't shopping with Marc. They're already at YSL or Jil or picking and choosing Prada pieces etc. Many of whom already dismiss Marc as a thrift store copy cat. Marc's prices aren't exactly cheap, so I'd imagine it would be hard to win this new audience and possibly difficult to sell this to the current one. Or, maybe I'm just confusing the Marc by Marc girl with a more subtle MJ woman that passes under my radar.

Also, and I've not taken the time to digest the individual pieces yet, but does Marc expect his customers to buy new wardrobes every season? It doesn't seem like much of this would blend with anything he's done previously. That's good in some respects, but would have to be frustrating for the ladies who frequent the shops.

^Point taken but my idea of the typical Marc Jacobs customer is a woman somewhere between the 26-45 age range with a certain level of income who likes to dress in clothing that is a bit more feminine. Using your examples, I think Jil Sander would be too plain and structured for his core girl and YSL a bit too old for the younger end of that age spectrum. Also, his core customer seems to be not someone who buys clothes but buys fashion. And will buy something because it is Marc Jacobs.
Other customers outside of the core (like myself) may buy certain pieces not because it's Marc but because they like it and it would work with their style and wardrobe.
Just my thoughts. Feel free to pick apart.

there are a few pieces that i do not like (like the sweater with the hand holding a smoking cigarette) but i really like some of the dresses. this collection is so different, overall i like it

hmm dont know what to say. It reminds me of the way valentina did fw06 with the runway, need to watch the video

I really want one of those hats! :woot: The shorter brimmed ones. I LOVE how they look when tehy cover the models' eyes. Tres chic!

I also like the pattern on the floor.:ninja:

I like it a lot. More than his previous collections maybe. Wasn't expecting it. It seems like his inspiration was Jackie-O in the 21st Century! Its great.

I didn´t like his F/W 06, S/S 07 collections much.. but this one is beautiful!

Congratulations, Marc!

Some pieces are horrible...some I love. I think most of all I just love the overall mood.
