Marc Jacobs S/S 07 NYC

I have to say that this show is reminiscent of Chloe and Balenciaga- expecially all the cream and white organza/light materials he used. Although it has the New York-modern edge which I absolutely love.
Doesn't this outfit remind you of this from Balenciaga?

I think the accessories are amazing! I love how detailed and intricate the designs are... ^_^ Some of the pieces are gorgeous too; I like the pastels and subtler pieces especially... Overall, for me a fairly pretty collection in a divine setting... I don't think the collection is entirely practical, though, some pieces appear to be designed to admire, rather than wear... :ermm:

hah! isn't it like this every single season? Marc is always controversial, and many people HATE the show, and then months later everybody is wearing them and consider them biggest trends

exactly^_^

I even love the pants that everyone loves to hate.

Wonder if he's been watching The great Gatsby lately?

my eyes say, "this is AMAZING!":woot:
and i do love all of it. the shapes, the washed fabrics... and the colour palette is my favourite. i don't care about the gaudy rhinestones being so gaudy, they won't be produced anyways (most likely)..

and if one pulls apart the pieces, i think a lot of them would look very intelligent. "esoteric" as the style.com review said, but that's what i love.
very "japanese"..which was a reference everyone was excited about last season.
and is a reference that jacobs' team is clearly fascinated by. ever since the fall 2005 collection. i hope this becomes the signature of the brand forever. apart from the usual things like glittery fabrics and patchwork.

at first, like Lena, i thought it was an -ism instead of a reference. i still kind of do, but i don't mind at all. it's actually quite nice that an american brand is pushing typical japanese/belgian style.

:woot: I wasn't expecting a collection like this.I think the shoes are original and the clothes are fun.I loved it

i think it's pretty nice, but some outfits remind me to chanel and balenciaga ones, for the rest is very edgy and modern, especially the pailettes-shirt! love them!

Once again our own susie_bubble has taken the words out of my brain.
I quote from her blog:
"Once again, Marc Jacobs has gone all out with the styling so that the overall effect can either be interpreted as an assualt on the senses or styling perfection. I'd say it's a bit of both because the styling can detract from the garments itself. Looking at each piece individually, I would not wear half of it. On the other hand, the styling is a way of giving the unimaginative such as myself, inspiration to layer in different ways and create similar proportions or looks. "

this is what is so good about this collection to me, the concept of new intrepretation and expression.

It just hit me, those wee caps are a neoteric take on Tweedledee & Tweedledum. Behold..

I think Mr. Jacob's styling prowess has finally failed him, because this is a real mess. Half of the collection looks like he might have hired the As Four team to design it...maybe he's making a play for a little avant-garde credibility, but I think he overstepped his limits. The collection does not look assured.

On the plus side, it is distinctive; I'm pretty sure this will be one of the only NY collections of which I will have any recollection next week...

you're so right on the money, droogist. i entirely agree with you. :(

Not sure how cohesive it was, but I liked the 20s influence  I liked the tulip shorts and capris, and this I thought was breathtaking:

This collection of what I've seen so far looks really cheap and utterly disgusting. I think people only like this because it made by "Marc Jacobs". I think if a up and coming designer did something like this the critics would fry him. And you all know it.

I agree!!

the collection is so off the wall.
its wacky and everyone is going to love it because its Marc! the stage is amazing but thats all that really caught my eye. very strange collection! the glossies are going to eat this up. they love him! i dont know why.

I like a good chunk of it. My only issue is the sloppiness, if the pieces were more put-togther Id love it. The tiering is SO DAMN DULL, Im so over it. And the bags are MEGA fug and very derivitave of other designers (namely Burberry and obviously Chanel)

Thank you ;) I don't like the bags, they're the worst part ...

Interesting fabrics, there's a lot to like here ... though not perhaps much to wear IRL ... :ninja: :innocent:

very off topic, but why did he pose nude?

It's all explained right there ... it's part of a skin cancer "PSA" series. I assume he must know someone who's had it ... (There's also a thread on the campaign.)
