^ I agree about Cate Blanchett, she is very plain indeed, she looks medieval (that's rarely a compliment) but I can understand why people would find her attractive I guess because she is a good actress with good style, which can elevate a plain face.

I think Megan's quotes on paper make you think that she is smart & focused but I just think it's ridiculous that she is such a contradiction, it's gone beyond interesting and endearing and become annoying...she says she's so anti-cookie cutter and then there she is with her new cookie cutter nose & boobs...she says that women are mere sex objects in Hollywood (which I agree with, whether Meryl or Megan, women are always reduced to sexiness IMO, the acting is secondary) and then she says that hey, it ain't degrading but empowering (gee that old chestnut that p*rn stars always come out with!).


She clearly isn't thick or ugly, but she needs to get some integrity to back up her quotes.

Sarah Jessica Parker is doing fine for someone who hasn't been on a sex-bomb list at any point in her - very long - career. She's managed to get through the trials of being a child star and an older woman in showbiz, so she would certainly have some wisdom to share about how to handle the entertainment industry and still come out on top - and be on the cover of US Vogue yet again, despite never having conventional beauty to fall back on.

Everyone in Hollywood gets typecast at some point, or comes up against restrictions - it's up to them to think strategically about the direction they want to go in, and then work hard to get there. Every actor that wants a flourishing career has to do this.

Someone like Daniel Radcliffe hasn't been sitting about taking pictures of his face, he's been too busy counteracting Harry Potter by appearing nude on stage in Equus, or taking up musical theatre, or being in John le Carre adaptations.

If Megan truly thought there was more to her than her forehead, she'd already be out there, sharing it with the world in some creative way - so the change that needs to happen is inside her own head. Then she can get on with changing the world around her. Changing her face is just a way to waste time.

None of these actresses (who are among the most successful young actresses working today) have shown any interest in being objectified as fapping material.

I don't think you can say that people like Keira Knightly, Natalie Portman, Emma Watson, Amanda Seyfried & Kristen Stewart got to where they are without being objectified...some of them have acting skills to back up their looks but it is essentially the same thing, they would not have got anywhere if they were not considered pretty and attractive....we all have different ideas of sexiness and I wouldn't describe any of the above as sirens or bombshells (i.e. the defining idea of sexiness) but I do think they are treated as objects to an extent...the fact that they are so concerned with their physical appearance & admired for their styling/looks just proves this. People fawn over Keira, Natalie etc. because of the way they look, not really because of their acting.

^ By "sold sex", if you mean they've done a "sex scene", then I'm afraid you'd be hard-pressed to find ONE SINGLE Hollywood actress of our era who has not done even a single sex scene in their entire career.

Sex is a part of our lives, and depicting sex tastefully isn't tantamount to "selling" sex. There's a difference between doing a sex scene in a serious drama or a romantic comedy and just being in the frame wearing as little clothes as possible for the sole purpose of titillating the male audience. That's what Megan really did in Transformers.

Sexual content, when a part of a larger fabric, can enrich the movie. Sexual content and female sexuality, when reduced to a prop, is objectification.

I think there is a difference between being desired because you are sexy and/or beautiful and/or charming, and saying that your job, as an actress, is to be a sexual object.

Most young actresses are some men's fantasy to various degree, but that doesn't mean they don't aspire to be more.
What bother me about Megan statement is that she's implying that being sex icon is the point of being an actresses, when it's clearly not. That's just something that comes with the job, but that isn't the job.
Maybe for Megan it's true, but for most serious, talented actress, that statement is fallacious and terribly reductive.

Exactly! Megan became a sex symbol by appearing in men's magazines all the time. All actresses are going to have sex scenes and use sex as a means in their films. But when you use it in real life as a means to further your career you're going to be thought of as a sex symbol. The difference is a script objectifying you or you objectifying yourself.

It's hypocrital for you guys to say this doesn't apply to any of those saints you've mention. Keira had a sex scene in King Arthur and a few other movies. DidN'T she appear on the cover of vanity fair compeletly nude? Oh let me guess, that doesn't count? Amanda's character at Mean Girls is basically sluty and bitchy. Dakota shouldn't be even mentioned here as she is still very young - So carmen I think you should reconsider the perfection of that list . Mila was on a tv series that always had something to say about sex or genitals. Zoe did a sex scene in one of her movies. It's kinda recent actually but I can't seem to remember the title.
I don't really follow the careers of the other actresses so I can't say much about them. But I'm sure they either bore in all for some magazine or they had sex scenes.

When you think of Megan all you think about is her hottness. You dont think about her acting because her acting sucks(atleast in my point of view). When you think of serious actresses such as Angelina or Naomi Watts or Keira Knightly, not only are they very beautiful and sexy women but they are also amazing actresses. Angelina is obviously a sex symbol but atleast she has class being sexy. Megan is tasteless who tries very hard to be desired by men. She is by no means a serious actress and most likely never will be. I wouldn't say all actresses in Hollywood are sex symbols I'd say the majority of them are beauty symbols. Also just because you have sex in a movie doesn't make you a sex symbol. Kate Winslet for example she is very beautiful and has done sex scenes and I wouldn't call her a sex symbol.
