The Juan Carlos Obando pieces are beautiful, I love the silhouette.

I find the one shoulder look to be extremely beautiful on a woman.

I fell in love with that Douglas Hannant + Erin Fetherston - dress.

looks like an elegant, loosely draped one shoulder look so far..
nice.. ^_^

thanks mette!

it's interesting to see the variety of ways that this can be done..

Great to see all of these. I'm a one shoulder kind of girl.

I'll be honest with you. I've never hated one-shoulder tops. What is most appealing about one-shoulder tops is the romantic appeal to them. Remove a shoulder from a top or dress, and prepare to enjoy something appealing and flirty for the warm seasons. If you have appealing shoulders, this would be a great way to show off a flirty and fun side of you. For a romantic twist, a lady could probably wear a traditional bra with a bra strap showing. No one would ever attempt this. So the next best thing is to get a strapless bra.

The kinds of one-shoulder (asymmetrical) tops I've seen usually ranged from flirty tops to even something more appropriate for nightclubs. Funny enough, one girl wore a one-shoulder top to school that had its own collar kind of tacked-on. I prefer one-shoulder tops that have an even flow. My favorite one-shoulder tops or dresses from Post #1 include that gray dress from BCBG Max Azria, both Juan Carlos Obando dresses, and especially the stunning silver dress from Douglas Hannant + Erin Fetherston. I'm a bit neutral on the silver and black dress from the Jason Wu + Nicole Miller. I guess my least favorite one is the white dress from Abaeté. The one-shoulder look isn't completely clean for me with that dress. I prefer a smoothly-styled one-shoulder design. Same would go if I saw something like a spaghetti-strap tank top that had only one strap. You have to have a consistent flow to a one-shoulder design to look great. All or most of the ones in this thread have that needed flow to look amazing.

I've been looking for one-shoulder dresses for the longest time now...I'm happy to know that they'll be everywhere for fall! :woot:

For those of you who love one-shoulder tops and dresses, what do you personally like most about these?

Personally I like Juan Carlos Obando's and Sari Gueron's more formal pieces a lot though my favorite of the bunch is the Nicole Miller dress. So sassy, girly and adorable  I would totally wear it! What I like most about the one shoulder dresses is that it's such a beautiful way to showcase your shoulders. I always feel very feminine whenever I wear one ^_^ (I should add that I already own this Kate Moss for Topshop dress from her first collection which is now hugely popular. I wonder if it has anything to do with this trend btw :innocent:)

Something I'm curious about one-shoulder tops... is there ever any real preference as to which sholder to show off? Like, is there a such thing as a girl who likes to maybe have a one-shoulder top with the lone strap on a girl's left to show off a tattoo or something on her right shoulder?

i don't think there is really a preference or standard as to which shoulder is revealed when it comes to this style..

I'm sure the thing you mentioned John could be true in some cases but I don't think that girl would NOT buy something because it shows off her other shoulder..

i think the concerns are more about how the strap or neckline is cut.. whether the fabric is loose or tight.. whether the girl can wear a bra if she needs it..
those are just more practical things to think of..

some of the necklines will certainly be more flattering than others..
you don't want it too look like the fabric cutting across your chest is too close to your throat so it is cutting across your neck..

there seem to be 3 main themes with this look though...
the first is more like a toga..
the second is more fluttery/70s/bohemian Farrah Fawcett I think..
and the third is more along the lines of a structured strapless dress with a sleeve/strap on one side...

I love the oneshoulder dress, thanks for the threa

my fav is the fluttery bohemian look you're talking about Chrissy
