I was wondering if any of the major schools in Paris have shorter programs. You know like a 1 year certificate program or something like that? If anyone comes across anything, let me know!!

Well, i got accepted at La Chambre syndicale, a couple of weeks ago. Now i'm just doing paperwork..is there anyone here who also got accepted? or that applied?

i'm really excited!

Congradulation......Aldo, so happy u can make it..

yes, Chambre Syndicale has a 1-year program with an emphasis on draping and patternmaking. I think they expect you to have some previous fashion education, though. The program is written up on their website.

If you already have some experience and know with what you wanna work, Chambre Syndicale also offer a 3 months program wich is called "Formation continue". It's really nice because you become really specialized in something... I'm doing the Moulage program, in 2 different levels, the first was february/april and know april/june.

I really like the classes, I'm learning sooooooo much! I really recommend the school!

What do they consider experience? I just graduated with an Associates from Parsons, do you think that will be enough?

The experience is more for you to feel safe about your work, to be sure that you'll enjoy as much as you can. I'm telling you this about the short program, I don't know if it's the same for the 1 or 3 years program...

There's one lady in my class that had never worked with fashion, but there's also people that work for Balenciaga, others that have been working for 8, 10 years... We can see that as much previous experience you have, better you succeed!

But any of the cases, I think it worth the try! You just have to work a little bit harder, practice at home...

If u need something, just ask!

Is there any summer courses? (It's probably a tad late for this year, but I can always look into it for 2008.)

This is wonderful!! Tell me, did you have to send your portfolio along with the application at the same time? Or they called you in for an interview and then you showed them your portfolio? I was also wondering about the fees. I was looking at the french application and I'm pretty sure it 9800 euros per year paid in 3 installments (I live in NYC). Is this right?

I think I'm going to concentrate on this school instead of Studio Bercot. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences there!

After finding out that Flanders Fashion Institute mostly has graduates, and that you must be 18 to study at Bunka Fashion College, I've been looking a little at the French schools.

So from what I'm seeing in this thread, La Chambre Syndicale is the best, but Studio Berçot and ESMOD are also good? Are they especially hard to get into?

ESMOD is a very big school, almost like a factory. They have lots of areas of specialisation, like accessories, lingerie, knitwear, etc, which can be good if you think you might want to design for one of those markets. I think they also allow you to integrate in English in the first year, which can be good for people who need time to get their French up to speed. I don't know a lot about Studio Bercot- I have met people who loved it there and people who hated it there- I think they have a lot more emphasis on the design process (drawing and conceptualizing) than Chambre Syndciale does. Chambre Syndicale is strong for textile (print/embroidery/etc) and cut (draping/patternmaking), which is what gives it a 'couture' cachet. It is also a very small, familial atmosphere. They're all different, and can offer different things. My friend and I just graduated CS this year- I have the video of our graduate show, but it's too big to upload by itself, so here are links to clips of mine and her final collections, to give you an idea of the work we did there:

I'm plannin to go to CS this year, but they need a application letter in french, which I'm asking my tutor to correct it....I "scare to death" that I'll be too late for my applicati0n............

Thank you so much for your input! The videos were great, and Chambre Syndicale is looking better and better.

Thanks so much for this thread, it's very helpful. I am thinking of applying for 2008/2009 course. ESMOD is the best school for me, as I am not fluent at all in French. However, I would prefer Chambre Syndicale.

Studio Berçot site doesn't work, does it?

What if I start doing a year at ESMOD to familiarize myself with French, and then I apply for Chambre Syndicale? I need your opinions!! I am a bit lost...

Sorry for the double post, but the time for editing expired.

Does anyone know if financial aid is available for international students for any of these schools? What about advance placement?

Most foreign schools don't gove international students Financial aid scholarships if you are in college see if they award study abroad scholarships, or check out private funded scholarships in France and in the U.S that will transfer internationally.

Also, if you are in school already, sometimes schools will have 'sister schools' around the globe, and you can do a portion of your studies at one of these sister schools
Sometimes they have good choices in which schools you can pick, and I hear you pay the regular tuition that you pay at your school at the other school (so, no international tuition)

Yeah guis, I graduated from parsons and they have a paris branch and I wanted to continue my studies in Paris but I have been looking all over and I think there are no aid or scholarships so far.
