Parsons School of Fashion, New York

Hi everyone! I have an interview at parsons next Friday, and I was wondering if there was anyone on TFS that has been through an interview. What do they ask? I'm applying for design & management if that means anything!
Thanks in advance!!

I wonder if Parsons has summer school for students from other colleges .

Are these requirements for the AAS degree as well?

I have question about the challenge.
It says write 250 words short essay and talk about your piece.. do we write 250 for each piece? or just 250 words for the whole three pieces?
I am just confused.
:flower:
Getting nervous now, I am doing early action:(

I'm submitting my application for Parsons fall 2010 tomorrow!! So excited / nervous!!

I want to apply for the BFA Fashion Design program but I keep reading on here that Parsons is looking for a more fine art portfolio.

The problem is that on my foundation (I did all my schooling in the states, and I am now doing an art and design foundation in London) we do a lot of sketchbook work and we don't focus on creating a final watercolor painting or something like that. I do have some life drawing pieces though.

Would it still be alright to submit a fashion oriented portfolio for the course? Thanks.

I need help, everyone. Ok, so I'm at the point of my Parsons applications where I need to submit 3 forms of art (they mentioned photography, sketching, anything would be fine) and to include an essay for each creation I made. I'm applying for a major in fashion merchandising, but does anyone have any suggestions in what exactly I should create? I'm terribly bad at photos and I'm pretty good at sketching so would you guys suggest me to sketch for my Personal Statement part of the application? Unfortunately & fortunately, the school sent me an email stating they chose me to have a fee waiver but that would require me to turn in my app before January first.

Here's a thought ... Fashion Merchandising is all about retail (budgeting, buying the right stuff and moving the goods to make a profit for your company) ... it's about numbers, mostly, so it's seems odd to me that they need you to create art. I would think they'd be more interested in how you do math.

However ... if that is what they want, you need to do the best you can. So I'm thinking that maybe designing a window display or something like that might be interesting and slightly related to what you intend to study.

Window display is only a tiny part of merchandising ... usually the "visual merchandisers" handle it, but they often report to the Head Merchandiser for the company ... so it could relate a bit to what you might be overseeing as a merchandiser. And it could show that you have a handle on what is current and popular right now as well as show your sketching skills.

Take pieces from current collections ... to create a theme for the store window and show manequins in interesting poses and maybe include some peices "off model" too with graphics and props, as you deem applicable. Or even draw in-store displays ... maybe a display wall for merchandise, with shelving and art to show off the current colors, or a theme.

But sketching is only one form of art ... not sure what else you could include, if you don't want to take photos of something. Do you weave, do graphic art, paint or sculpt ... design anything at all, even web sites? Those would be other forms.

I'm pretty sure that's the exact date. I remember reading that on their website.

Seriously, thank you so much! This was seriously very helpful^_^. I decided I needed extra time so I guess I'm just gonna go along with the normal application deadline. I'm also taking your suggestion of sketching window displays. It makes complete sense to do that.

I've submitted my application for the Fall '11 AAS Fashion Marketing program, and now I'm instilled with a waterfall of anxiety and excitement in waiting.

I received an email not long ago from the school saying graduate program deadlines (I don't believe the AAS programs are considered graduate level though) was January 10 for priority admission. I know that the AAS programs have rolling admission, so it will be ongoing until the program is full I assume? Hope this information helps!

Thanks for the info. The MA programs deadlines aren't until Feb 15th though.

A bunch of people asked on Facebook and they said around April 1st.

Has anyone here applied or will be applying for the AAS Fashion Marketing? I just have a question about the essay we have to write- does it need to be backed up by academic references or is it opinion based??

I applied for Fall '11 and my essay did not have academic references. I referenced a quote from the designer himself on the inspiration for the collection, but that's it. Hope this helps! :flower:

Wow thank you  Do you know if you've been accepted yet??
