"Permanent" Trends?

Stylebites said:
Capri length pants and 3/4 sleeves come to mind as trendy items that re-emerged in the last decade and have now becomne classics.

Second on whoever mentioned long, elegant, "city" shorts. I think you're right on the money.

Maybe what we're talking about here are long-term trends. 3/4 sleeves are a good example ... I've been wearing them for ... 5 years at least. They were also big back in Mom's day (the 60s), but when I was a kid they looked really dated. So I would say not so much a classic (like the A-line skirt), but a long-term trend that will eventually look "so turn of the century."

Isn't the phrase 'permanent trend' an oxymoron? Nothing is permanent.

Well there are timeless looks. Like peacoats from a few seasons ago are still around. And that seems like a "permanent trend" to me.

^ I agree ..

I think that everything that is now a classic, say, Hermes scarves and Chanel suits, started off as a trend at first. Gradually they became a classic.

Even timeless classics like the nautical style which were always around must have become a trend when worn as everyday clothes.

Skinnies. Me being a dude, love them because they really work well with my slender frame.

I hope the Balenciaga bags become a classic. they still seem to be going strong in popularity after being big for a few years now. can't say the same for many other "it" bags of the last decade, besides maybe the now-classic birkin :D

it was just a joke people. everything was loose cut in the 90s and now everyhing has slimmed down. good grief.

Laying, now that im obsessed - i highly doubt its leaving, its so practical - those long shirts are lifesavers....cause butt cracks never needed to be a trend ha ha ha.

i feel like that quilted look of the stam bag will stick around..kind of the 'granny' style vintage thing....

and i havent really made up my mind about the boho look..it seems like the 60s and 70s fashion eras are sticking around...

Somebody mentioned skinny jeans. I don't think they'll be sticking around for long. They've been a trend for quite a long time now, and they pop up on every decade, but I think they will stay as a trend.

Balenciaga's bags might get the "classic" status.

Skinny jeans? I think that they will always be popular with skaters and punks and such, but will soon just be a fad for trendy girls...

One trend which i hope stays is large sunglasses. Or.. i at least hope they stay acceptable. The current lens and frame shapes please me...

I personally don't agree with the skinny jeans staying around as a permanent trend. They are so body shape specific....but I may be wrong.

I think skinny jeans have a lot of potential to stay around, as they are just so flattering.

What about pointy shoes? I think they night stay around for a lot longer as they look pretty good with most things.

For bags, maybe the LV speedy?
