Waiter, there's a nose ring in my soup

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - As if the hair in your salad wasn't bad enough, a city health inspector in Cheyenne, Wyo. said there had been "several cases" of tongue rings and other facial jewelry found in the food in the city's restaurants.

It was enough to persuade the Governor's Food Safety Council to recommend banning facial jewelry for restaurant workers who prepare food -- perhaps becoming the first state in the country to do so.

But despite his testimony, when contacted by The Associated Press, Jon Cecil of Cheyenne Health Department couldn't cite a single documented case of facial jewelry falling into a restaurant dish.

That's not what he said in a Jan. 25 hearing before the Food Safety Council.

"We've had several cases of old ladies finding tongue rings and rings and whatnot in their food," Cecil testified. "We actually had a lady at one of our finer restaurants in town and ... she found a tongue ring."

The council voted 5-3 to recommend the changes, which could go into effect as early as this spring.

Cecil said he learned of the incident from the restaurant, not from the customer, so no formal complaint was ever filed. He would not release the name of the restaurant.

In approving the regulation, the food safety council said nose, tongue and lip piercings were health hazards because a piercing that found its way into food could spread a staph infection.

John Townes, an assistant professor of infectious diseases at Oregon Health Sciences University, said nose rings could transmit staph bacteria -- the inner nose is one of the most common sites for staph to colonize -- especially if the wearer had a habit of touching the nose ring with his hands.

But Townes said a nose ring would have to sit in a plate of food for hours before a sufficient population of bacteria built up to spread the disease. Townes said he knew of no documented cases of foodborne illness resulting from facial piercings.

"I think it would be vastly more important for them to wash their hands," he said.

this may be in the wrong forum, but i thought it was terribly funny and worthy of a discussion... how the hell would jewelry just FALL OUT of your face?

i was Just wondering that too. piercings randomly falling out of your face!

and as for the tounge ring in the soup wouldnt you notice it had come unscrewed from your tounge!

this is too stupid for words:lol:

i have nose, tounge, bellybutton, nipple, and seven in the ears, and yet when people ask how many peircings i have, and i say eleven, they are all surprised, the ones i have you can barley notice and they're cute. i think it all depends on how you wear them.

I have tongue, nipple(two round stones on each side), bellybutton they all are really cute and little with real diamonds that my BF got me:blush:

I used to have in my lip but I think as you get older you don't have the "need" for visible piercings.

My little sister which is 14teen got in the eyebrow that is what it reminds me of. early Teenagers.

belly button piercing

Hey... i was just wondering if any of you have got your belly button pierced.Well i want to get mine done, well i wanted to for over a year now but i thought id wait a bit longer.Anyway what i want to know is... did it hurt? how much was it?? does it get infected easily and what sort of stuff do you have to do,cus i heard that for the first week or 2 its quite a pain, like you cant wear tight clothes,or u cant sleep on your belly or go swimming or do any sports or anything. Is this true?? I want mine done, but as for you cant do sports and everythin,i probly will have to wait till the 6 weeks holidays right?? with school and everything.

So if any1 has got thiers done plese share your experience with me,i would like to know. Thanks:innocent:

Right now, I have my navel, cartiledge (the outer rim of my ear, it's acutally pretty low on the ear, halfway down I would say) my lobes are double pierced, and my rook (which is the chunk below the first inner rim of your ear, if we're talknig top down. I hope that makes sense).

If you're going to get any sort of job in any sort of corporate atmosphere I wouldn't get any facial ones done. I'm glad I never got my eyebrow done like I wanted because Journalism can be a conservative field and evne the scar would give me away.

I do have two well hidden tattoos though, on my back and on my foot. Man, the one of my foot hurt like none other. My rook too.

I used to have mine pierced for about 4 yrs. I took it out b/c I was over it, and pretty much forgot I even had it. it doesn't hurt, but it can get infected easily. You also cannot take the ring from the initial piercing out for about a month or two after you get it done, so if you are excited about buying a bunch of body jewlery you will have to wait awhile b4 you wear it.

yeh i realised that,i would even dare take it out to change it thought for proberly around 4/5 months,to be on the safe side, the last thing i want is an infected belly button!! but before i get it dun i need to loose weight :( like sum1 sed,the worst thing to see is a fat belly with a piercing (blurgg) :(

I have the top part of my belly button pierced and the bottom. The top didn't hurt at all but at first it got a minor infection, but nothing a little bactine couldn't solve. the bottom piercing HURT!! I couldnt drive (or sit down) without hurting it for about a week, but it didn't really get infected. I paid 20 dollars for each of mine here in miami. And yea, you should avoid tight pants for a bit. i mean u can wear jeans but not if they suck the fat out of u, u know? cuz then it kind of bothers. u should get it whenever u want, once u get it, the rest isn't really a big deal. and picking out rings for it is the BEST part about it! :)

You're right- there are some incredibly pretty belly piercing jewelry. Makes me wish I had one.

Hi:D I had a belly piercing before and let me say that it's so painful. I had to remove it because my husband did not like it.

Is there a specific weight for a person who is 5'3?? or like a nice weight to be to get it done. Also if i got it dun say on saturday, and i go back to school tuesday, would it be ok?? or would i not be able to do pe and all that. Also, when you get it pierced, can you choose weather you want like a dangly one or just a normal bar??

There is no specific weight to get a belly piercing. In my personal experience, It was so painful that it was so really hard to sit down for 2 weeks. For your first piercing, I suggest you go and get a normal and light bar and when the wound heals, just change it with another style.

yeah if i was to get a normal and light bar, would i be ok with it at school?? would i be ok doing pe and everythin
