Ponchos

I think different people pull off different things. It's how you wear it not really what you wear and whether or not it's in fashion.

I hope some women take special note of the "careful if you are fully figured" part - I don't relish seeing half of a FF cup hanging below the hemline of one of those "capelets"

Has anyone noticed that those in London still wearing the poncho closely resemble Oompa loompas? That fake tan and bright cheap acrylic clothing thing going on? (Also with the green hair, thats what happends when you over highlight your hair and then go swimming)
As to the comment about how middle aged women have found their "trendy item" to make the them "hip with the kids" I totally agree. But maybe when I'm old and fat I'll feel differently ...

capelets are much cuter than ponchos.

Oh God, that makes me sick. Trade two ugly trends for two more ugly trends.

phah, I don't care if it's SOOO OOVER :innocent: , I'll wear it anyway..

i find ponchos impractical & uncomfortable.
but i'd wear one if i wanted to & loved it enough

My Mum bought me an off white almost cream coloured, sort of thin 100% cashmere one with a beigey-grey coloured cableknit cowl neck. It's incredibly different, and very beautiful. It's also pretty long.It kinda looks more like a shawl.not sure if i should wear it though. It would be good in flight wear, not really anything else.

I think one of the mistakes some people are making is buying them incredibly short so they don't really cover what they're meant to. Thay also buy incredibly cheap plasticy ones. :o

yeah first of all, eva looks weird in those pictures. and mukluks?

and impossible, I think some poncho's are alright. As aforementioned, ethnic ones are fine by me. And yours sounds quite nice.

i wouldn't trust anyone who says mukluks are "IN!"

and capelets are just as bad. i don't see how they emphasize her breasts. i have never liked ponchos. i don't think i have ever even worn one. to be completely honest, i never knew they were even a trend. i must be shopping at the wrong stores...

whatever happened to being practical and wearing sweaters when cold? i never considered them too much of a hassle to take on and off.

The only poncho's I don't mind are the real ones that are like hand made in south america and worn by people who appreciate that. for example, i have this friend who is very much like yay fairtrade and organic stuff and she has this latin american poncho which I think looks good on her but it's thick and woolen
oh I know, my aunt went to Chile in 1993 and I remember she bought this gorgeous green/gray poncho that like you say, was made of wool and was really thick..it had nothing to do with the ones worn in north america...other than the shape of course^_^

Ponchos, uggs and trends

Yes - funny thing is trends come and go. We all know. And ponchos, ugg boots, etc. have all been here before. Ugg boots were the fashion back in the 1970's. Check out information on real uggs by reading:

I don't care what any magazine says, this is a nice piece... especially over a nice simple black dress:

That woman looks like she has a dead animal strapped to her feet.

If you look good in a poncho, please come forward and we shall knot a black bin bag around your neck and you will look like a queen (YSL did than on a gorgeous black model). If you look good in a poncho, you will look good in a potato bag.

I think some are pretty- I have one only, and I have seen a nice one on Jessica Simpson on the Newly Weds series, but you really have to choose a tastefull one because so many are so tacky.

Wow, I had no idea there was such a backlash against ponchos. I know they came back into style in a major way this past season and was the number one back to school fashion item for girls, but I didn't realize how many people seem to not just dislike them, but actually despise them. I have a BCBG poncho that I love. I wear it often with jeans and have gotten several compliments on it. The thing is that even though I'm known to follow trends in fashion, I like to do it my own way, and walking around my school these past six months I've seen two other girls out of 1,000 students in my school wearing them (and they looked nothing like mine). I can say that even though ponchos are a "trendy" item, I rarely see people around here (in Massachusetts) wearing them, and therefore I still feel like I'm wearing something I love while being unique at the same time.

Oh, and I already know some of your answers by reading your posts, but what are your opinions on capes? I saw a beautiful brown wool Max Studio cape with a v-neck on tjmaxx.com (in the clearance section on p. 3 of women's if you're interested). It is currently $25, and I'm trying to decide whether or not to get it. Any opinions?

ya

I think ponchos are ok within moderation. If you have a poncho that is not too long or thick and is loosely fitting and off the shoulder then i think they can compliment what you are wearing. the idea of a poncho has been however sourly overworked. people wear them who arn't even the poncho type and i have seen a hanfull of hideous ponchos out on the street

No way - far too overdone!
I have a vintage black shawl that is MUCH better!
