this style, i believe, is inspired by traditional garbs of Eastern Turkey (where I am from). I have seen some girls wear them this summer as a trendy item. They don't actually look too bad. I might consider getting some myself. I like the cotton ones with the crotch reaching the floor :) I think what makes these look bad is the sudden change from baggy to tight. If the transition is smoother it looks much better. Here is a pic of the traditional Turkish pants (called salvar - pronounced shalwar)

I'm getting MC Hammer flashbacks!

But seriously, they can be gorgeous if the proportions are right.

exactly punky, inpsiration comes straight from the salvar..

what i have noticed worn by very young people in Paris, resemples a lot this low crotch trousers here.. made out of 'semi stiff' fabric including jeans, they are like a uniform for some 15-20 year olds -mainly boys- its like their dress code and the idea is to keep this kind of trousers to themselves, since mom (or dad) wont even go near trying these style on..
i quite like this version on boys.. seems fun, something like an inside joke..

here pics from designer alexarda moura's fw05 show in Lisbon Portugal, reposted from lerage.com

i went to Barcelona the summer before last and a woman had these kind of pants on. They were gorgeous, Black cotton with a wide waist band and were skinny and fitted at the ankles. The woman wore them with casual flip flops. I saw a pair in a local shop but did.t get them which im gutted about now!!!!

Those are just like the ones I saw! (but in Madrid) I never found them

Am I the only one here who has fallen VICTIM to this? Being short and finding pants wtih too long of an inseam.. always get the long crotch effect. Eeek.

yes, those are fresh nr9dream
very popular in Paris first spotted in the metro a year ago
they are very streetwear and look great on thin tall boys
on girls they need real good styling, can look cool with on
allover extreme girl
the steetwear version has a total tribal mood
and one usually sees them worn by groups of kids, fascinating

thanks for the samples you posted Punky, Lena and nr9dream:heart:
for me personally these pants are great skirt repacement [i don't feel/look great in skirts:rolleyes: ]

^ was just going to say. i think these make for a very nonchalant look. and it's more wearable than some might think.

i tried a pair of black ones (sweatpants) at H&M. just wasn't a good one. the draping wasn't right and i looked like MC Hammer.

Ugh, I resisted gauchos, and I will have no problem resisting this trend

try the jeans version, in 'non draping' style, it looks real cute -as in tribal cute- on young guys

i like them a lot :)
but i haven't found them in the netherlands yet

I found some cool ones from Diesel Style lab 2 years ago...and I still break them out ever now and then. I always get compliments :)

didnt carol christian poell do some as well? that was for men... i re-modified my baggy chinos into something similar but the crotch wasnt as low as some of the styles listed... but i got a few compliments from people... mine were made to look like this:heart::heart::heart:.... i dont like the MC hammer style pant... but the lower crotch can look good...on some people.. and yes it wont work very well on the fuller figure. Ann Demeulemeester's got it right tho!:heart:

updating the low croch / harem trousers is been a full blown street trend by now, mainly on the jersey..
not a particular pleasant sight on non skinny girls but still, predicted to get real huge with the more 'quirky' crowd by summertime

Does someone know online shops where you can buy these pants? The Vanessa Bruno version is one of my favourites.
