I was at Trader Joes today and I saw a lady with a pink popped collar & green capris. The worst thing is, she couldn't have been younger than 65 YEARS OLD. Her capris were up to her boobs & she had one of those preppy ribbon belts with a flamingo on it. I almost died laughing.

I guess I should explain that prepnecks are rednecks + preps. Or the rednecks (they love muddin', huntin', george bush, gigantic trucks, country music, hate cities and democrats) that have a lot of money. So they wear polos with the necks popped and have they're oakleys hanging around thier neck all day. I can't wait to graduate...

 mostly i see popped collars on the i-think-im-so-hot guys whose whole wardrobe consists of ae, af, and hollister. popped collars are for vampires, ok? ;)

i was greatly annoyed when a friend of mine told my other frined to pop their collar..and they continued to do it themselves too... :yuck:

I just saw a guy today at AMC theater w/ a popped collar, shaved head, gold hoop earring, and one of those Louis Vuitton "man-bags" in the checkered print. (the ones that go over-the-shoulder and end in a small box at the lower back). There were no words for it...

Some of you guys are so dramatic... is it that serious?
I get so confused with this board sometimes. You have some people saying that fashion is about diversity and expression, and to wear whatever makes a person comfortable, but sometimes, something so horrid like popped collars comes along and all that junk about wearing whatever you like goes out the wondow.

Ok, but seriously... I see where people are going when they say popped collars on spiky haired-guys (who wear sunglasses in doors) is an awful look. I don't think it's a particularly bad, it's just that everyone tries to replicate it and it gets really tired. Kind of in the same way poncho's looked good when 3 people were doing it. But when every girl under the sun began copying that look, it became garbage REALLY fast.

I don't know though... some people who pop their collars have that whole inadvertant slouchy look, casual and relaxed, as if they didn't put any effort into what they were going to wear. You know what I mean? Like when people roll up their sleeves.

I think most people only hate the popped collars when it dosent look like theyre "trying too hard" which is a good amount of the time..if it looks natural and good on the person, no complaints there from me.

Yeah. Popped collars make the guys look fresh.

*Drool to wankster guys.

I've seen this thread for a while and everytime I see it I remember the time when I came to school a bit late and pulled on my polo shirt and ran to school (across the street). When I got there, my friend complimented me on the fact that my collar was "popped" and I hadn't even noticed.

I personally don't like this look but in my opinion its not a trend, since I haven't seen it around much.

I like it on others - but when I pop my collars I get such a Grease vibe *Olivia elton John starts to sing "You're the One that I want..uh uh uh"* :ninja:..that I almost immidiately un-pop 'em. ..I wish it wasn't so..

^ that's just hilarious... !!!!I just HATE popped collars....

I love when people do this with their cheap *** American Eagle polos. Because you know, real, authentic yacht clubbers with their collars popped from the wind out on the water are wearing mustard yellow polos with A EAGLE all over them as opposed to say, actual names you'd see out sailing or at a yacht club like Lacoste or Ralph Lauren. Yes. I can practically feel my hair blowing in the breeze.

Not that it looks any less tacky even on a nice shirt ... but still, if you're going to go for the WASP billionaire yachting off Cape Cod look at least make it sort of convincing.

oh dear, i "pop" my collar, but i would rarther call it, put the collar up i hate the other phrase, and i wear a plane white primarks top with a "up" collar under a jumper because i look silly with it down under a jumper and im not trying to show off my top because there both just primarks £3

dont hate me  i didnt realise people hated it, but i guess its a bit chav

i want to cry

^Don't feel bad about it! I personally don't mind the 'popped collar'. It's a bit of Hong Kong thing as well, guys going around with their polo shirt collars 'popped'. I think it looks decent depending on the shirt and what they're wearing it with. Of course, you'll get the deliberate poser types who really look as though they've POPPED their collar. Others, they have just turned up their collars to prevent their polo shirt from looking a bit wet really.

I pop my blazer and dress shirt collars sometimes and I kinda like it....just adds structural interest to an otherwise boring shirt.

I know this is strange but..... I like it on forms, hate it on living people. I am on the visuals team at A&F so part of my job is styling the forms. I'm an expert on popping and curling collars in numerous ways. It's to give the forms attitude and interest. To make it visually appealing.

On real people though I have to put my hands in my pocket to prevent myself from smoothing their collars out. I can't stand this look on real people. It looks too deliberate.

P.S. Please don't pidgeon hole me into an A&F clone though! I also work at BCBG ;) .

Ok, so i saw this guy with his collars popped. I couldnt stand it, so i walked up to him and asked him why he had popped his collars, he replied: i dunno, its cool huh! You see people who pop their collars are no good!

i totally agree with you! i mean it just loooks like kids (usually 12-14 year olds) are trying way too hard to have the new cool popular look at their middle school. if you are going to pop the collar you have to make sure it's atleast a good collar to pop.
with the cheaper polo's that are popped it looks like a cheap trend, like fake uggs!:yuk:
