Miserable Chelsy splits from Prince Harry after three years

Chelsy Davy has split from Prince Harry, telling him she 'needs space' to carve out her own identity.

The party-loving Zimbabwean told friends she was having a 'trial separation' from the Prince while she studies at Leeds University and he pursues his Army career.

The couple began their separation in the style that has characterised their three-year relationship – partying hard at different nightclubs just a few miles away from each other in London.

Chelsy's decision to split from the Prince came less than a week after The Mail on Sunday revealed that the 22-year-old was desperately unhappy in Leeds.

The news is sure to cause concern to the Queen, who will be worried that the separation, following the on-off romance between Prince William and Kate Middleton, will convince the public that the young Royals, like their parents' generation, are incapable of forming a stable relationship.

Chelsy was said to have made a series of tearful telephone calls to the Prince last week – and she later confided to a close friend that Harry had agreed to the "trial separation".

A friend close to Chelsy told The Mail on Sunday: "This is not an over-for-good situation. Chelsy and Harry both love each other very much but Chelsy has had a lot to come to terms with over recent months since moving to the UK and has not found the transition an easy one.

"She kept saying she needed to take some time out to re-establish herself. She still loves him, but she feels she needs to carve an identity as her own person rather than as Prince Harry's girlfriend.

"Over recent weeks she's been coming down to London and partying with Harry's friends. They were together at Amika nightclub in Kensington just two weeks ago when Chelsy appeared incredibly down and subdued.

"She was not her normal partying self. She had confided it was because she was missing Zimbabwe and her family in South Africa but in fact she was having doubts about her relationship with Prince Harry back then.

"While they care for each other deeply she needs to be able to be her own person. She is pragmatic about the split. They're using it as an opportunity to take a break rather than splitting for good."

A senior Palace aide was last night reported to have said: "The relationship is over. It has simply run its course. Harry will be carrying on his Army career and Chelsy will continue her studies."

But we can reveal today that Harry has had as many problems with his Army career as with his relationship with Chelsy.

He has told friends that he has threatened to leave the Household Cavalry and concentrate on charity work if he is not sent to Afghanistan to fight with his regiment.

Immediately after the split, Harry was back at Amika, partying hard with a group of five friends on Friday night – one of whom bore a remarkable resemblance to his old friend, TV presenter Natalie Pinkham. "She looked very pretty," said one onlooker.

He was overheard boasting that he planned to get "as drunk as possible" and ran up a £2,500 bar bill in only a few hours. Other guests noticed an ice bucket filled with a magnum of Dom Perignon champagne, at a cost of £400 a bottle.

Meanwhile Chelsy was on the other side of London, partying with friends from Leeds University, where she is studying for her law postgraduate degree.

She is said to have been concerned about Harry's increasing appetite for alcohol, as well as not feeling able to trust the 23-year-old Prince when he was not by her side. Last week this newspaper revealed that Chelsy's friends in Leeds had become concerned that she was becoming increasingly depressed about her situation.

Less than two months into her two-year course, she appeared to be finding it difficult to settle in and deal with a new country, climate and social scene.

Her mother Beverly had initially stayed in Leeds to help her put down some roots, but she has now flown back to South Africa.

Chelsy is said to have found it hard to cope with swapping her privileged upbringing in Zimbabwe, where she has a penthouse apartment and a family ranch, for the dour surroundings of Leeds, where she lives in a redbrick terrace house.

And despite travelling 6,000 miles to be closer to her boyfriend, Chelsy has not seen as much of Harry as she might have liked.

They are still separated by a 200 miles, as he has had duties to perform at his barracks in Windsor with the Household Cavalry, where he holds the rank of Second Lieutenant.

They're so young! So serious about a relationship... I suppose when you're dealing with a Prince, though, it's serious business...

Well she actually has a life outside of finding a husband unlike Kate, so kudos to her! And she didn't need to keep getting disrespected with all Harry's bullsh*t...there's only so much one can take getting embarrassed.

^agreed. she actually has a life - and actually seems to have a future outside of being prince harry's gf/possible future wife. they didn't seem too happy in the candid shots i've seen of them lately so this doesn't come as a total suprise to me.

I wonder if she regrets moving to England now? Maybe she'll transfer to back home. But who knows, maybe they'll get back together too.

She has lots of friends in Leeds. I hope she just continues her studies there.

The papers say her parents bought her a new apartment for when she feels homesick...I think she may bail out soon, after the holidays. She doesn't look happy, especially in the latest photos and she certainly didn't in the last photos with Harry...

Did Chesly Davy dump Prince Harry because of secret texts?

Friends say Chelsy Davy is 'ready' to flee the UK, but she was snapped yesterday attending her uni in Leeds.

The South African student, 22, looked puffy-eyed, clearly upset after her break-up with Prince Harry.

Chelsy is said to have decided to dump her royal boyfriend, 23, after discovering secret text messages on his mobile when he returned from the Rugby World Cup semi-final in Paris.

'Chelsy was furious. She then confronted Harry and they had a blazing row,' a source tells the Sun.

'Women are always after Harry wherever he goes. They even throw themselves at him.'

The France v England match was on 13 October so guess Chelsy took a few weeks to work up to her shock decision...

^ It must be so hard to be his gf....
I know I would have a hell of a time trusting a man who has women throwing themselves at him....
esp. this party animal!!!

That's why he needs another party animal to show him up...paging Lindsay Lohan...they'd be perfect together. Double red-headed trouble...:innocent:

^ I'd somehow like to see him with Alice Dellal (she's got experience with princes, after all). I'm sensing that would be BIG trouble!

Now Chelsy is all smiles as Prince Harry plots to win her back

Newly single Chelsy arrived at her university in Leeds yesterday looking glum, but today, her mood has clearly lifted.

She was all smiles as she faced photographers on her way to the campus wrapped in a stylish black coat.

Her brighter disposition comes as sources reveal Prince Harry has enlisted the help of his close pal Guy Pelly's girlfriend Susanna Warren to try and convince Chelsy to take him back.

The prince wants Susanna to act as a go-between in a last-ditch effort to build a bridge between the estranged couple.

A well placed source says the South African beauty feels Harry has let her down severely since she moved from Cape Town to Leeds to go to university.

The source said: "Chelsy feels isolated and lonely. Harry promised her he'd be there for her at all times, but he barely came to see her in Leeds. He didn't help her as she struggled with the difficulties of moving country, and moving far away from her family and friends.

"Chelsy basically decided it just wasn't worth it anymore."

But source reveal Susanna Warren, 19, who has become close to Chelsy, is trying to get her to forgive Harry's faults and move on.

Susanna, a student at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, could be the key to getting their three-and-a-half year relationship back on track.

A friend says: "Susanna is trying to convince Chelsy to treat her planned trip home to South Africa as a short break and time to reconsider, rather than a move back home.

"Harry hasn't given up hope. He is desperately trying to get Chelsy back and fight for their relationship but he thinks another girl will be better at softening Chelsy at the moment."

Yesterday, a lank-haired and puffy-eyed, Chelsy was the picture of misery as she trudged through the streets of Leeds.

Her appearance suggested that she had either spent the weekend in tears - or followed her ex-boyfriend's example by drowning her sorrows.

Although it was Chelsy, 22, who decided to call time on the romance - telling friends she needed space to "be herself" - it is clear that the end of her three-year romance with the prince had taken its toll.

Reports have claimed that she found texts from a mystery woman on Harry's phone. She is said to have discovered the messages after overhearing him having a whispered conversation.

The Zimbabwean-born student, who gave up a life of luxury in Cape Town to be closer to Harry, says the move has made her "utterly miserable".

In particular, she is struggling to settle in at Leeds University, where she shares grimy £50-aweek student digs and is studying for a postgraduate degree in law.

Friends say she is ready to quit the course and could move back to Cape Town, where her father has already bought her a £350,000 waterfront apartment.

Yesterday she surfaced shortly before 10am and headed for the university campus, meeting on the way a girl friend who hugged her and asked how she was. "OK", was the tearful reply.

She managed to eat a sandwich in the Student Union bar before going to the law faculty for an afternoon lecture.

Blues and Royals officer Harry was back at his barracks in Windsor yesterday, although friends said he had been in regular touch with Chelsy.

"Chelsy was - and still is - the love of his life," said one. "He will be gutted to see her looking like the weight of the world is on her shoulders."

Over the weekend there was speculation that the prince might already had his eye on someone else after being photographed with a leggy brunette on Friday night.

We can reveal, however, that she is make-up artist Charlotte Cowen - and she is dating one of his best friends.

Miss Cowen, 25, is the girlfriend of Arthur Landon, son of the infamous "White Sultan", Brigadier Tim Landon, who died in August from lung cancer. He made &£500million as an adventurer and arms dealer in oil-rich Oman.

Arthur, who will inherit much of his father's fortune, is an old friend of the prince and met up with him at the London nightclub Amika.

Of course this probably isn't true, but if it is, and he was hanging out with some girl in France, she has every right to be livid because that was her birthday weekend and he chose to go watch Rugby over being with her!

Anyway, I realllly hope the next time he has a girlfriend its someone more stable (not like Alice Dellal or Lilo) because he's a party animal all his own and doesn't need any more encouragement!.

Chelsy is a party animal too. I think they are just going through a rough patch and I don't think it has anything to do with "secret text messages"....I just think the move was hard on Chelsy and she's more vulnerable. I know I would be...

Who will hook Harry next? The eligible beauties who could help the Prince mend his broken heart

By NATASHA PEARLMAN and MISHAAL KHAN - More by this author » Last updated at 14:55pm on 13th November 2007 Comments (19)
So Prince Harry and his girlfriend of three years Chelsy Davy have split amid rumours of her being terrified of being 'pigeonholed as a princess'. But plenty of other eligible - and not so eligible - young women are desperate for that very title. We present a list of the hopefuls...

Scroll to the bottom to see the Mac cartoon on Harry's predicament
1. LADY ELOISE ANSON

As the daughter of acclaimed royal photographer Lord Lichfield, socialite and model Eloise is friends with both princes as well as a host of fashionistas.

Her father left an estimated £10 million fortune, not including the 900-acre family seat, Shugborough Hall, which is leased to Staffordshire Council. The family still has access to the main house.

Eloise, 23, enjoys the limelight and has been regularly "papped" outside the Princes' favourite haunts, Boujis and Cuckoo Club.

Earlier this year she checked into a private clinic amid rumours of an eating disorder.
2. LYDIA FORTE

Sir Rocco Forte's eldest gal, Lydia, has the brains to succeed.

The 22-year-old straight-A student is reading history at St Catherine's College, Oxford and is said to be a close friend of Princess Beatrice, who attended Lydia's 18th birthday bash at one of her father's hotels.

As heiress to a £385million fortune amassed by her father, Lydia is cash-rich, too. Her credentials mean she's found at most society events, and royal haunt Boujis is one of her favourite nightspots.
3. PIPPA MIDDLETON

Pippa - Kate's little sister - graduated from Edinburgh University in July with a degree in English.

Currently "taking some me time" out (just like her sister). During Wills and Kate's brief split earlier this year, 22-year-old Pippa became her sister's partying accessory, socialising with Guy Pelly et al at Mahiki.

Home is a modest, six-bedroom detached house in Bucklebury, Berkshire. Her father Michael, a former pilot, and mother, Carole, a former air hostess, run an internet business selling children's party games with an estimated annual turnover of £2million - so the family is hardly in the same financial league as Harry's other associates.

Nasty rumours abound that Carole Middleton has had designs on both Princes for her daughters, particularly since July when Pippa split up with Hong Kong banking heir JJ Jardine-Matheson. Certainly, nabbing Harry as well as Wills would be rather a coup.

4. KITTY SPENCER

South African-based Kitty Spencer is a straight-A student at Reddam House, a private school for South Africa's elite.

The 17-year-old is Harry's first cousin - the eldest daughter of Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, and his first wife, Victoria Lockwood. The family seat is, of course, Althorp, the 300-acre estate in Northamptonshire which was Diana's childhood home.

With a cool £100million family fortune, Kitty prefers to continue her studies rather than court Press attention. However, she was reluctantly thrust into the limelight earlier this month when she was voted Tatler's Most Eligible Female in their 2007 Little Black Book. All too aware of the tragic Spencer family history, she has so far remained tight-lipped about her future.
5 & 6. ISABELLA and GABRIELLA ANSTRUTHER-GOUGH-CALTHORPE

An actress and model, 27-year-old Isabella [picture no. 5] has the distinction in aristocratic circles of being rather good at her job - she is currently starring in West End musical hit Dirty Dancing.

Isabella is a fourth cousin once removed from Prince Harry and her father, John Austen Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, has a £100million fortune based on the family estate in the Midlands.

She is not exactly available, though - her 22-year-old boyfriend Sam Branson is the son of business mogul Richard.

As Isabella's younger half-sister (her mother is Vanessa, niece of the Duke of Norfolk) 18-year-old catwalk model Gabriella [picture no. 6] is not related to the Princes, but still has noble genes from both parents.

After gaining straight A*s in her GCSEs at £19,530 a year St Swithun's school in Hampshire, she put university plans on hold to pursue modelling. But in spite of her catwalk success, Gabriella does not court attention.

She is also stuck with the unfortunate nickname "Bumpy".

7. ALICE ROTHSCHILD

With a surname that carries a greater cachet than any credit card - her personal fortune is said to be worth hundreds of millions - Alice, 23, doesn't need to work.

However, she recently joined business information firm Grayson Pender Wordsworth as probably the wealthiest researcher in the world.

Alice's father, the late Amschel Rothschild, left a fortune of £18million to his family. Her mother is also the granddaughter of merchant banker James Guinness.

Unsurprisingly, Alice found herself among Tatler's 2005 Most Eligible Women.
8. BEE SHAFFER
Twenty-year-old Bee is taking time out from studying at Columbia University, New York, and is now living in London making a name for herself as a fashion journalist.

Of course, having infamous U.S. Vogue editor Anna Wintour as a mother might have opened a few doors in that respect.

Her father is eminent New York child psychiatrist David Shaffer, although her parents are separated - her mother's relationship with mobile phone millionaire Shelby Bryan led to the break-up in 1999.

Bee has a parental connection to Harry in that Anna Wintour was a friend of Diana's - and with her mother's impeccable fashion credentials, Bee is certain to shine at any royal function.
9. HENRIETTA SEYMOUR
This could be just the sort of girl party-loving Harry is after - 18-year-old wild child Henrietta's most notorious escapade was turning up for last year's New York Debutantes ball in pink sunglasses and promptly lifting her couture dress to reveal leopard-print tights.

Her father, the Duke of Somerset, spends his time running the family's 5,000-acre estate centred on Bradley Hall, a 14-bedroom Grade II listed stately home in Somerset.

The Duke is asset-rich and his estate is worth millions (perhaps even half-a-billion with all the villages).

10. CHARLOTTE CASIRAGHI

Genuine royalty, though only of the Eurotrash variety. Charlotte, 21, is the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, granddaughter of Grace Kelly, and fourth in line to the throne of the sunny principality.

After her industrialist father Stefano Casiraghi died in a boating accident when she was four, her paternal grandparents Giancarlo and Fernanda Casiraghi gave her a nice present - a small island off Sardinia worth $9million.

Charlotte has appeared in the French and Italian papers, but now she's working for one here - The Independent on Sunday.
11. GINNY FRASER

Ginny, 24, studied at St Andrews with Prince William and became good friends with both Princes.

Reportedly one of the most fanciable girls among William's well-heeled group of students, she now works as an advertising account manager at Vogue.

She was also a pupil at Downe House, in Cold Ash, Berkshire, along with Lady Gabriella Windsor, the daughter of Princess Michael of Kent.

Her father, the third Baron Strathalmond, is an underwriter at Lloyds and the vast family estate is in Elstead, near Farnham, Surrey.

The considerable family fortune was founded on the efforts of her great-grandfather, the first baron, an oil industry expert and former chairman of BP.
12. SIENNA MILLER

Famously cheated on by Jude Law, actress and model Sienna is always in attendance at the latest premiere, party or even her local pub - wherever Sienna is, a paparazzi lens won't be far away.

This determined pursuit of fame has helped the 25-year-old's earnings to reach more than £1million a year.

Her parents Jo and Ed were regular fixtures in high society when they married in the Seventies, but the couple divorced when Sienna was six.

Her father, Edward, is a banker-turned-art dealer, while her mother, Josephine, lives in a Chelsea town house.

But would Sienna be willing to swop her current beau, actor Rhys Ifans?

13. LILY COLE
Don't worry, Harry, the schoolgirl outfit was for a part in the new St Trinian's movie.

Still only 19, teenage overachiever Lily is a supermodel, Cambridge student and ambassador for children's charity Global Angels. Surely the perfect wife for Harry, who is heavily involved in the Aids charities his mother championed.

Lily has made an estimated £10million from modelling assignments alone. Not bad for a girl from a three-bedroom semi in Torbay, Devon.

No one would call her shy - she parades down catwalks in barely-there clothes for a living - but she is not your typical champagne-swilling party girl. Lily prefers studying politics and has penned a few articles for women's glossy magazines.
And if he gets desperate...

14. PEACHES GELDOF

At first glance, 18-year-old Peaches might not seem ideal royal girlfriend material.

Her mother, Paula, died from a drugs overdose and her father, Bob, is an outspoken anti-poverty activist.

But she certainly rivals Harry in the party stakes and likes a brawl with paparazzi snappers, too.

Will one day inherit a slice of her father's £35million fortune.
15. CHANTELLE HOUGHTON
At least Harry knows 24-year-old Chantelle could handle life in the spotlight.

Famously dim and an Essex girl to her core, she won Celebrity Big Brother as the only non-celebrity, then made £1million by selling coverage of every aspect of her 10-month marriage to fellow housemate Samuel Preston.

maccartoonDM_468x318.jpg
'Poor Harry's inconsolable. They won't let him go to Afghanistan, his girlfriend's dumped him and now he's heard that 24-hour drinking may be reviewed'

This article made me sick for one reason, PIPPA MIDDLETON, I really feel like the Middleton sisters will do ANYTHING to marry into the royal fold. Yuck.

F*cking ew to the fact that they put his first cousin on the list!!
