GIORGIO ARMANI has suggested the fashion industry places too much emphasis on the importance of youth. Following the reported suicide of Burberry model Tom Nicon, the designer stressed the industry need to change its outlook on age.

"This world is too closely linked to youth and makes it seem like life ends at 22," he told the Guardian, having heard Nicon's tragic news. "We need to make the young understand life is beautiful from 23 onwards as well. There will always be disappointments, including in love, but they must be faced up to without tragedy."

Tributes have begun pouring for the 22-year-old model. Jethro Cave, son of singer Nick Cave, has described Nicon as "light-hearted, positive and beautiful." Designer Donatella Versace commented that Nicon has been quieter than usual when she met with him on Friday.

"Who knows if that was a signal that I, as a woman and a mother, could have acted on?" she said.

Tom Nicon, fell from his fourth floor apartment this weekend, after returning from a Versace catwalk rehearsal.

So I guess it's pretty clear, based on these comments, that it was a suicide. Poor Tom. First Ruslana, then Daul, recently Ambrose, now Tom? Such a tragedy.

Rest in peace, Tom.. It's so awful to know how hurting inside he might have been to do such a thing, if this was indeed suicide.. To a lesser degree I will miss seeing him on the runways, but in the big picture we have lost a beautiful young man. The words of that "unnamed" model are very haunting to me..
