Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garcons for H&M Designer Collection

I was at the Bloor location. I read your post about how you weren't able to get the drop-crotch pants you wanted. :( I don't think the Bloor store hand any women's pants at all (either that or people took them all, but I was about 25-30th person in line). Did they run out of the pants so fast at Eaton? How many pieces of each style did they have in stock? The employees at Bloor were acutally reinforcing the 2 pieces per style rule, but the stuff still went off the racks really fast.

i didnt really get to see any of the pants except the jodphurs on the rack.

i only saw them in people's hands.

Ugh...disgusting.

I wanted to buy the polka dot menswear pieces, especially the button up shirt...but the idea of standing in line and then running around the store like a crazy person fighting with other people to get my hands on a shirt is DISGUSTING.

Seriously, what is wrong with...
1. H&M for letting the collection sell out in 10 minutes...it's insane and it's really just mean. Why can't the collection be in stores for a month? I just don't get it...it's not like it WON'T sell....
2. Customers for acting like rabid animals running around a store grabbing everything they can get their hands on...I'd be so ashamed of myself if I was there with them acting the same way.

totally agree with you there.

Horrible, how that guy in the video just loaded up on every single one of the scarves. I wish they could enforce something more effective to foil these reseller whores. I wish they released their '2 item' policy at the upon entering the store or something, or atleast enforce it all. Or maybe they did, but it's just not that hard to swipe everything to yourself and meet up with your lil sidekicks so that you can divide the stocks among yourselves.

Maybe go a little extreme and make it only 2 items you can pick up or else...:ninja: Seriously though, they can't just let a single person pick up the entire stock like that, that's just $$$$ing ridiculous.

There were definitely pants (at least the drop crotch ones) at Bloor. I saw them myself. I saw a few returned to the racks right before I went to the fitting rooms. That would have been around 10:40.

Haha, I guess I'm not a very experienced shopper since I completely missed those. :p I was pretty much trying to get out of there as fast as possible...

Exactly...I guess "democratic design" is reserved for those without a day job and a sense of self decorum.

Yeah, it's not really "democratic" is it? Personally I only grabbed four items to try on. Clothes really aren't worth stooping down to the level of acting like a wild animal. I think a lot of people get carried away by the mayhem and grab everything in sight... Some of the pieces looked cheap and weren't even very flattering on the body, but because it's cheap CDG, people think everything looks awesome.

well,i just wonder what rei herself is thinking seeing all of this disturbing behaviour....i highly doubt this was ever her intention in doing this.

i just cannot wrap my head around the way people were acting today...i feel so much shame...fellow human beings acting worse than wild animals(at least they fight to survive)over pieces of fabric.

I just looked on Ebay not that I would ever buy an overpriced item from a horrid price gouger but I was wondering things are already way above retail prices but you can but other CDG pieces for a reasonable price why not just buy those I am sure the quality is better. Congrats to all the people who actually waited and got what they wanted I had class today so I could not go but I would have considered if I did not have class.

I swore I wouldn't come back in here after reading about it earlier today, but really it's just too....disgusting.

All of the resellers should be ashamed of themselves for using this situation to try and rip people off when they had absolutely no intention of keeping the six jackets they bought.

And more than that, H&M should be ashamed for yet again creating an environment where that kind of behavior is allowed and encouraged. If they're so intent on orchestrating the desirability and exclusivity factor instead of producing a much larger quantity of the clothes, limit how many of each piece one customer may buy.

Honestly, I'd rather H&M didn't even bother with these collaborations than make them into a bloodsport.

I was at one of the Toronto locations and I managed to purchase a few things :D. It was complete madness. Everything was gone besides the basic black/white shirts within minutes. The only thing I didn't get that I wanted was the polka-dot scarf.

One guy had like 8 of the same style shirt... i walked past him a few times and people were asking for one (assuming he wasn't going to take them all) and he said no. I guess he was a re-seller...

I do wish that the next time this happens, that H&M would only allow a certain amount of people at a time, and impose that 2 piece limit. If the consumers knew that they would be able to browse for a few minutes with just maybe 10 other shoppers or even 5, there wouldn't be this problem.

Those sale associates were powerless when it came to imposing that 2 piece limit. They would just give up because the people would just run off. But if they saw a pile of unattended clothes on the floor ( I guess to be sorted out later) they would immediately put it back on the rack.

I don't think anyone in the store where I went grabbed more clothes just to resell it, they just grabbed like 2 sizes just to try it on..It's def different in Norway than in the U.S. and Japan^^

I guess he was the meanest guy ever!

thanks for the help. idk i know this sounds dumb but i want to go to either store and just see if anyone returned things. i was on racked.com and they were saying how they went early to one of the stores and everything was gone but they went later aat the same store and there was some good stuff there

it's worth a try!

but i wholeheartedly agree with scott and spike. it's all ridiculous.

I live in Norway, people are too shy to behave like animals here I guess, just PM me if you want me to look for something for you here^^

I could not get my hands on any of the clothes and the menswear was underwhelming, so had to settle with accesories and the fragrance...it was utter madness

:mowhawk::mowhawk:
-_-

I wonder what Rei is thinking, too ....

I planned to go this morning and couldn't leave my job.. I just wanted the pleated skirt, it was the only item that seemed more classic and resembled the sides of comme des garçons that I've always loved, but, after seeing the videos and all the stories in this thread, I'm glad I didn't make an extra effort for this.. I don't fight for fashion, especially not against completely clueless and disgustingly greedy people (like the guy grabbing all the scarves or the other one with all the sweaters that was mentioned), they can keep their 'comme des garçons for h&m', funnily asymmetrical stuff and parade it like it's the latest s*hit with their groovy marc jacobs shoes and alexander wang rip offs, just seeing them getting completely mad over this proves how private rei's work still is...

^Agreed MulletProof  I highly doubt that Rei is even following what is going on. She's so private & quiet... and her work on this project was finished long ago.

I personally don't believe
people are acting this way because it's Rei..i think it's the hype,
... no matter which designer H&M picks there always seems always be crazy crowds.:innocent:

I don't understand why she did this..as I find this side of fashion..the consumer side of buying, hype the worst side of it.
