it's SO junior...
how does this help them build a customer base?

i mean- i know they get paid but i guess that's it...
cause it's not like the customer for this is ever going to shop their collection...
it's so different...

very odd imo...
:ermm:...

with mcQueen it made sense cause it was like mcQ...
and with A. Sui...well, she has rather juvenile styles to begin with ...
but this is just odd...

but this just seems like they needed money...
which is fair...
but i would think they would also try to get some exposure for their own collection...
but i don't think this is going to do it...

i can definitely see some quirky little vintage loving teenagers wearing it though...
that's for sure..

no grown ups though...:ninja:

well then, im a quirky vintage loving teenager trapped in a 25 year old's body. bring it on! im still buying a bunch of it ;)

didnt an investigation of some sorts reveal the designers only get like 100,000 for doing this? some of the regular Rodarte stuff could cost this much, so really, there has to be more reasons than just the money.

I think it's the exposure? I mean, Rodarte have been around for years and had loads of press (Kirsten Dunst wore their clothes, so did Rachel Weisz on the cover of US Vogue), but as of last year or two years ago people were still surprised that fashion non-insiders know who they were.

For what it's worth, I don't think this collection is worth investing in. I'd rather hope they ride out the recession and save my money for years to buy one of their actual pieces, maybe even a vintage piece, as it would be by then (AW08-09....WOW).

their garments for the gap 2 years ago sold very quickly. that might be why they are doing it.

i'm not sure why target isnt running ads for this yet.

Hmmm.

I'm 26 and I really love some of the items... the animal-print ones, the most - that's probably all I would be interested in buying. It's SO cool to me.

Maybe once I see the fabrics I will change my mind, but until then.. I'm excited.

join me then! yippee!!!

i think they're doing it to maybe garner a following with a younger fan base honestly. they have a huge following in the hipper, edgier older crowd, like kirsten, etc...but why not introduce their name to intrigue a whole new set of potential clients? hell, if i was in their shoes and was offered a target collab, i'd do it. target is a huge conglomerate. sure, it may not reach the high paying couture collector, or the folks that are deep inside fashion and know of rodarte already, but imagine that ignorant crowd, who knows not of rodarte, of their sweater stitches or vintage lace collages....imagine the impact this could potentially have on opening up the eyes of a young girl browsing through target and how it could make her go home, look up the brand, and discover something amazing...

In my opinion this is a very smart move by Rodarte. not only are they earning a profit and keeping their business afloat in this economy, they are also making their designs accessible to everyone.

Maybe they are trying to garner the "junior" audience, who are going to no doubt buy from their ready to wear collection when they get older. It's about starting young and drawing a fan base that way.
I'm excited!

* sorry for the bad picture you guys!

^ Thanks for posting! :flower:

But.. not a big fan of that.. seems that the collection is hit-and-miss with me.

I like some of it but alas, too short and geared towards teens. Plus, I've been pretty disappointed in the quality of the materials in the past though I have managed to buy a few pieces. I'll probably take a look though and see if there is anything that might work. Thanks to all for posting pics.

i hate to be negative, but this stuff is too high priced much for my wallet - i could find similiar or better pieces at forever 21, ebay or some other shop, for less.

i still need to see the rest of the collection in person, there's still hope!

yeah, quality is an issue with these. i think the first collabs had better materials...like the libertine collection....but they're still decently made garments. im hoping they dont use a ton of poly on these dresses...is there like a leather jacket or a key piece? or is the leopard coat gonna be that?

^^i think the leopard coat is supposed to be the key piece (it is the most expensive)

regardless of quality, I am determined to get one item (probably the mustard cardigan) from this collection simply because Rodarte is so inaccessible without Target.
