Rolled pant legs S/S 08

shinkoyo sister - you look cute! it's the preppy version of this look. I actually used to wear rolled jeans and penny loafers just like that in the late 80's/early 90's.

adorefaith - I was thinking the same thing, that if you wear a looser pant, the leg needs to taper a bit. This makes sense, since the rolls add a bit of bulk, you'd want the line of the pant to taper a bit to keep a good silhouette. Too bad I don't have any slouchy tapered pants to try it with ...

I keep going back to that 2nd Alexander Wang look. That is my ideal spring look! I think I need a pair of pointy toe flats

For climatic contrast.... :flower:

Isabel Marant f/w 2005 (elle.com)
Look 1.
Look 2.

* There are other looks featuring rolled pnt legs in this collection but they all seemed stuffy and unnecessarily complicated - the absolute opposite of this look, I think. It's appealing b/c it's easy and versatile. Just add tights when the bitter cold sets in. Textured tights would look adorable.

^WIW, these are so gorgeous and a perfect example , now I feel bad for saying this but.. the thread is S/S 08 :ninja:.. we need to keep things separately, it's not my idea, just how we organise the section really to avoid confusions. is it okay if I turn it into links just so they don't disappear entirely?. -_-

being rediculasly short that even petite lines are long on me and living in one of the wetest countries ever .. im always wearing this look lol not out of choice though .. i like it though if its done in the right way .. i personally always think it looks better with narrower legs rather then really wide ones .. but maybe thats just me .. also i think rolled up pants can really shorten you

i think this can be a personal style choice as well as a trend..
some people will always do it because it works for them...

but for sure- it is currently a 'trend'

i have to say...
i am a fan...
here is an example of something i found for fall actually...
it's sort of avant garde i guess...but i think it's super cool...
i just got a pair of vintage calvin klein jeans and i will be attemtping this...

but i have been doing it for some time already...
i guess i never stopped completely since the 80's...
with cropped cargoes or paperbag waist pants...
*it sort of goes along with the paperbag waist...
so it can be narrow trousers or baggy pants....
it can work both ways...it's just a matter of balance...
imo..

i love the isabel marant examples....thanks wiw...
she is one of my favourites..

hey soft...i agree....
it can work both ways...
actually i'd like to see more examples of it being done with narrow trousers....i think if people are worried about looking 'short' then a narrower pant would help, dont you think?...

although i'm 5'4 and ive done this with slouchy pants...
i dont feel like it swamps me...

*ps-- i think your picture is missing....

oh...it just showed up for me...
i had to refresh the page....sorry...
tfs attachments are doing weird things to me these days....

I can see softgrey's picture as well. Kooky, alluring and mysterious!

It's all about balance and proportions with this look. I also think too much drama on the top will make for a significant height decrease with shorter women.

thanks for the link hanne...
the sleeves are harder to pull off imo...
but they look great when done well..

it looked great at DKNY imo...

A combination I usually see is when ladies roll up jeans (even some suitable pants) and wear tall-enough boots. This is almost as if (in the case of rolling up pants to show off boots) a much better alternative to looking great than tucking jeans/pants into boots. I don't think anyone listened/read me when I said that the tucking jeans into boots deal (unless for functional purposes like treading through messy or snowy ground conditions) is a terrible idea. In fact, looks like this year will see more of this happening.

I wouldn't do this personally. It's not like I'm a beach person or even one who has some comfortable sandals or anything. I can see the function for guys rolling up their pants or jeans; I just wouldn't do this myself. You see, this is a much better style than tucking jeans and some pants into boots. I always hated this way of wearing pants and boots even with this "I Love the '80s" bullcrap. Wanted it to die out... like cracking the necks of ladies in "GTA: Vice City Stories" who tucked jeans into boots thinking they are hot. Of course, I need not restate my hatred of the 80s. This rolling up of pants and jeans is much better of a modifier than pants into boots. Not many will have functional purpose for rolling up pants, but at least you don't look overdressed or tacky doing this. It looks a bit fruity when guys try to look great by rolling up pants or jeans. Even goes for the "metrosexual" who'd try to look fashionable doing this.

I do this all the time...
b/c I think I have really cute ankles and they should be shown.:p

As it's said... "if you got it, flaunt it!" I seem to have been fond of ladies wearing pants just above the ankles. And I've always been fond with ladies wearing wedge or platform wedge shoes and sandals to go with them. Some ladies have cute feet when wearing sandals or flip-flops. So why not a cute anklet or two to accompany your lovely feet? There is a real style advantage (at least to me) in wearing pants rolled up. My question has been about how ladies are able to keep up the rolled part for so long.

I got to thinking about sailors' bell bottom pants in rolling up pant legs. Most of you know I prefer flared and bellbottoms (especially traditional ones with larger flares). They did serve a functional purpose. And according to one blog, here is their true purpose for sailors:

"Derived from the traditional sailor’s clothing, the wide leg was useful to the sailor to put pants on over heavy boots, a breeze to roll up when swabbing the ship deck - and, easier to remove when wet than traditional trousers should you fall off that same ship deck. Bells have long been a traditional part of the Naval uniform." (from: http://www.dressthatman.net/2006/04/history-of-bell-bottom-pants.html )

I just hope this doesn't make the jeans-into-boots trend even more horrid. Anything to end that trend is fine by me.
