As a Catholic, I do take offense when I see someone wearing rosaries around their neck... it's not just beads! It's a method of prayer and is considered sacred- i.e. if you drop them on the ground after they have been blessed, you have to kiss them... please, just consider- how would you like it if I went and got a few stars of david and wore those all over? or a similar religious symbol?

personally i wouldn't mind. these items are no longer simple religious artifacts, they are a cultural product. it's like jazz or rap music. although its roots are uniquely african american, it does not prevent others from enjoying and/or creating it. if it's something desireable then people are going to want a part of it. religious or not.

I wouldn't go as far as to compare a religious symbol to a form of music. Like someone above mentioned, they are thought to be sacred and to have every Tom, Dick, and Harry wearing one because they think its trendy is just wrong.
But if you want to compare it to music...everytime some white boy starts trying to rap the first thing you hear, "another wannabe" "look at that wigger".

I'm strongly in favor of respecting the traditions of estblished religions, of new religions, and of promoting knowledge and understanding of all religions through interfaith/comparative religion study as part of language-arts/history/social-studies in the schools.
It would help eliminate dismissive and disrespectful attitudes toward various religions and help people make more educated and informed choices about what and how they believe and express their beliefs.
