James Franco and model Lily Donaldson snuggle up in this behind-the-scenes look for 7 For All Mankind’s Spring 2012 campaign.

Leaked behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot, which took place in Los Angeles over the weekend, can be watched below. The 33-year-old actor directed and photographed the jeans brand’s campaign - print and video components will be released around March.

“People are used to movies being told in a certain way,” James has shared. “It has an emotional arc and there’s a beginning, middle and end. But in a fashion campaign like this, you have some of those elements — actors and performers and a set and wardrobe — but you don’t have the burden of telling a story in the same way or attracting audiences in the same way. So you can use all the elements from a film but explore it in a new way.”

Devendra Banhart is also rumored to be attached to the campaign, most likely providing the music for the filmed segments.

Sofia Coppola Directs Marni for H&M Campaign

Sofia Coppola is going mass market: Hennes & Mauritz SA has tapped the award-winning director and style muse to direct the advertising film and campaign for its upcoming collection with Marni.

Coppola shot the ad, which will run in cinemas and on television worldwide, as well as online, in Marrakech last October. She is also the director and creator of a print campaign capturing the essence of the film.

The collection of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, designed by Marni founder and creative director Consuelo Castiglioni, is to go on sale March 8 in about 260 H&M stores worldwide and online.
The retailer trumpeted the Marni and Coppola collaboration as a “true dream team.”

The “Lost in Translation” director has previously shot advertising campaigns for Miss Dior Chérie perfume and was the face of Marc Jacobs perfume. She has also collaborated on clothing lines with brands including Louis Vuitton and Lutz & Patmos, having co-founded her own ready-to-wear brand, Milk Fed, in the Nineties.

“I enjoyed doing this film for the Marni at H&M collaboration. I think it’s great how they make fashion accessible and I wanted to show the fantasy fashion can bring,” Coppola said. “Consuelo seems really sincere and cares about what she does and I appreciated that.”

Castiglioni said it was a pleasure to meet Coppola. “I’m a big fan of her movies, in particular of her vision and aesthetic. It was fantastic that she worked on this project; her interpretation is remarkable and full of atmosphere,” she said.

Gucci

Actress Emi Takei, 17, has been appointed a “campaign girl” for luxury Italian fashion brand Gucci—the first Japanese celebrity to do so.

As part of her role, Takei will endorse Gucci’s clothes and bags in Japan and attend Gucci events in other countries.

The Gucci deal brings Takei’s total number of commercial contracts to 15 this year. She was only offered one TV commercial contract in 2010.

On Wednesday, Takei launched her foray into the world of music with the release of her debut single “Koisurukimochi” (The feeling of falling in love). She told media, “It’s like a dream. I feel like crying because I am so happy.”

Chanel Confirms Alice Dellal Reports

CHANEL GOES PUNK: Chanel has tapped an unconventional muse — Alice Dellal, the London-based socialite-turned-model — as the face of its Boy Chanel handbag collection. The news confirms a report that ran in WWD on Dec. 12. A drummer in the band Thrush Metal, Dellal, who wears a nose ring and has a half-shaved head, is known for her punk-rock style.

“[Karl Lagerfeld] had a crush on this unique, charismatic young lady, who is both a model and musician, during a photo shoot several months ago,” stated Chanel. “This previously unforeseen alliance finally became self-evident. Alice Dellal represents the perfect incarnation of all that is unique about the Boy Chanel handbag collection, which strives [to be] far from conformist notions of femininity.”

Chanel released a behind-the-scenes shot of Karl Lagerfeld photographing Dellal for the bag collection’s advertising campaign exclusively to WWD today. In the image, she is perched atop an ornate desk in an antiques-filled Haussmannian apartment and holds a steel gray quilted handbag from the collection. Dellal wears a girly cream Chanel ensemble. A black bow and pearl barrette adorn her hair, which is styled in a single side braid.

The campaign will be released worldwide in March.

Muses selected in the past by Lagerfeld, who is known for his eclectic casting in the handbag campaigns he photographs for Chanel, include Jerry Hall, Lily Allen, Rinko Kikuchi, Blake Lively and Diane Kruger.

Dellal has appeared in advertising for Mango and Agent Provocateur, as well.
