Seattle Street Style

Raincoats, I think you can find fashionable ones, you just have to not look at the outdoor stores. Please do not buy North Face or Birkenstock though because it just reinforces the stereotype here.

The Nalgene bottle is the supposedly indestructible water bottle that is sold at REI in a bajillion different colours, and they're carried, strapped to backpacks, etc. Speaking of backpacks, the most popular is anything North Face but also Da Kine and these messenger bags.

As far as Seattle-I live in a suburb and don't really drive however I do work at Northgate where I see more subdued streetstyle and everything. I like shopping at U-Village because it's not the ultra out-there stuff however leggings are insanely popular. I'm not a fan of the rain but we rarely ever have snow (this year being an exception) and temps are mild. Yes, to us, after a long winter, 65-70 degrees is warm. Of course in June that starts to seem cold! But if you're wondering about style, yes I've listed, but everywhere you go you're going to get different looks, you can't go anywhere to get everything.

Trista, I'm visiting towards the end of March, how's the weather? I know you mentioned warm(er), so I should just go for layers? My only fear is the rain  and I won't pack the right clothes.
Birkenstocks and North Face aren't really my style, so don't worry- I won't be wearing any of those

Lately, the weather has been very unpredictable. It snowed a couple of weeks ago. Then just a few days ago, it was pretty cold (35-40ish. that's cold to me) and today it was relatively warm, 60ish.

As far as Seattle street style, I can't say I've seen many outfits I've liked. Like Trisha said, there are an insane amout of North Faces here. I think everyone in my high school owns one.

And as far as the clothing at my high school, out of about 2000 kids I can only think of 4 girls that have exceptional style. The rest are just drowning in Abercrombie/North Face/Ugg boots. Same ole, same ole.

I wear usually a REI jacket, becuase frankly NF is too over priced. Everyone I know wears a fleece jacket. They are pretty good for all weather conditions. But I'm an hour away from Seattle.

Which high school did you go to? I remember when it snowed, I had to work. Then yesterday, it was insanely warm, and today, torrential rain.

I am lucky that our mall does not have REI, but the polar fleece vest is making a comeback. Whether I like it or not.

As far as dressing appropriately for Seattle weather, layering is key- something that has been right 'on trend' for the past few seasons.
For the record, I don't own a raincoat and save the fleece for camping
trips.

Though Seattle as a whole is not very fashion-forward, you will see a lot of great 'street style' if you go out to see bands play!

I agree totally Seattle is the least fashion-forward city. I mean everybody wears pretty much the same very casual dressing.

I think some Seattlites have good style! You just have to look harder for it.
