I don't mind that much but it isn't as animal-friendly as I thought.


Does anyone know anything about the different types of the pile? Like is it how old the sheep or lamb is or is just because of different types of species?
For example, I know the really long curly kind is a mongolian something-or-other, but what about the other types? Some look almost like fur and others are very short and curly. Just curiosity.
I have a coat and the collar is the furry type of shearling in a chestnut color and I always wondered b/c I never saw a sheep that looks like that in texture or color. I guess it could be dyed but it doesn't seem like it is.
Also random admission: I always though shearling was made from taking the fleece off the animal by shearing. I only just recently learned that it is also a pelt made with the whole skin like leather and fur is made.I don't mind that much but it isn't as animal-friendly as I thought.
