So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

I just have a quick question, kind dumb but, when you are a model, does that mean that you prob. are going to be naked in front of almost everyone like backstage and stuff like that..

i'm not sure if i made my point, sorry if i didn't.

Yes, but it's not like you have to walk around in the nude. I mean they help you get into the clothes very quickly, so you have to strip down in front of them, but no one really watches you. I mean it can be so chaotic backstage that people aren't really paying attention. I think it would be hard to be REALLY modest as a model.

It's not like people will care if you're naked, because it'll be you and 30 other models doing the same thing and it'll all be so busy no one has time to look at you.

I think there are strict rules about taking pics backstage when the models are undressed though, to make sure that no one who doesn't want nude pics of them out there or models who are young don't get their picture taken while undressed. I think I read something about Gemma being protected from pictures while dressing..

I don't understand your questions.

And we're in no position to tell you whether or not modeling is right for you. The bookers/agencies are the only ones that know, and the only people you should be concerned with.

:flower:

Thanks!

I think that the big question we should be asking ourselves is if we WANT to model... if you want it enough (and have a symetrical face ;)), some agent will see it.

HOWEVER...

AlmostFamous, since you've met some big names... who is closet short^_^?!?
I mean, just to boost some short girl moral?

ok so i'm with an agency, but i want to send my pics to other ones because my agency BLOWS - i've only been on 4 castings in 4 months and i was going to be in Teen Vogue but on the day of the shoot my agency calls and tells me they decided theyre going with someone else...they really dont have their stuff straight. So when i send my photos to other agencies, is it a good idea to tell them that I'm already with an agency but i'm interested in switching? I havent done any work, just a photoshoot for my comp card, i know it's not the agency's fault but i think if they were really trying that theyd get me on more go-sees and push me a little further.

If you have signed a contract with the agency you're with any agency you send pics to will need to know. If it's a strict contract you can't get out of the agency you're with will be your"mother agency" until that contract expires.

what is a symetrical face??...I'm kinda lost on that.

every thing is even, like one of your eyes isn't bigger than the other, or your mouth isn't lopsided. but, as julia stegner is an example of, symmetry doesn't always matter.

Symetrical face isn't the most important. ;). Everyone is much shorter than you'd expect. And I'm short.

Hey, this board is really helpful! I was wondering something though... I'm almost 14 and I weigh about 107 lbs. and am almost 5'5. My friends always say im so skinny and everything but that's for a normal person... does that mean I am considered overweight in the modelling industry? Also, I am still growing but is there hope for my height to be able to enter the fashion world?

I am desperately seeking advice... thanks!

Only a doctor who knows your family history would know if you are likely to grow anymore and as far as the weight thing goes be happy with it...and if modeling is something you want later on and the industry agrees it will all work out. Everyone needs dreams and sometimes they come true. :flower:

You know how most models say they were discovered in the most unusual places. I was wondering if scouts really do walk around the city looking for talent or do they just wait for the girls to walk in and then make up a story for them later?

They really do, they send scouts to different parts of the country to malls, other places where they can possibly find new models.

how does a guy get into modeling? I have some' good pics but i can take more of myself'

I workout so i look pretty fit an all but yah i dno if i have *the look

Pretty much the same way a female does, either you get scouted, or you send pics to agencies.

If you have "the look" they will email you back and ask you to either try again later, or somewhere else, or even ask you to come see them. If they dont reply you it means theyre not interested.
