So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

you'll be in a hospital if you have that sort of attitude..forget about modeling

I have always wanted to become a model, because of my passion of ever:runshow. So i ve traied few times but it didn t work,it has been always strange my relation with fashion.Actually i m with Brave agency in Milan (the one of Bianca Balti-i met her in the agency,we were doing the casting to enter in the agency the same day!) but i never did anything because i go school, and i live 2 and half hours from Milan,so it has been always a problem. In brave they told me that i would have started to work when i would have finsished my high school.Time is going on,and i can t wait for ever modeling:i m starting to be old for this kind of job.Anyway on next Friday i have a casting to participate to elite model look, and i ll try it.So:who knows!Just cross my finger and hope.

I was guided here by a bulliten i posted in a different thread.

And I've pretty much got all my questions about modeling answered.

But, from what I read it seems like the whole, submit your photo's online and next week you'll be the new guy for IMG thing is a scam. But, I live in Arkansas. And I know, for a fact that everything I've seen has been scams. (Ex:JOHN CASABLANCA. They have a agency in Fayetville, AR about 2 hours from where I live. And they've taken alot of my female friends money, leaving them nothing but a few black and white ads for a sale at Dillards in the local newspaper, which is far from what I want out of modeling). So, what i'm wondering is if I should try an agency in somewhere like Kansas City, MO or somewhere fairly close and if they like me and take me under their wing, send me to a bigger agency. Or send my pictures to modelscout.com because from what I can see that site looks pretty promising. And, if not modelscout.com where do I find GOOD RELIABLE agencys in someplace like Kansas City, MO or St. Louis?? or is there even such thing out there in those two cities.

I forgot to mention, that I will be in San Diego and LA next week for 5 days on vacation. I'm thinking that's a good chance to send some pictures to some agencies. But I have no clue where to start. Anything I search on google is all acting castings. Or they want older 21 years + and I'm only 16. Should I stop by some places and give them polariods of me, or come in with nothing and talk to them? And if so, where should I go? I'm from ARKANSAS so I have no clue with my way around LA OR San Diego.

Sending your images to IMG will not be a scam. They wont ask you for money. They will only reply you if they feel you have potential. If any of these will be scams it will be modelscout.com. Dont trust those sites, those are the ones that will take your money, and tell you that you have potential when you dont.

I dont know of any agencies in AK, but if you did email your photos to NY agencies, and they want you to come see them, they wont ask you for money, the only problem will be you will have to find your own way to NYC to visit them.

Keep in mind the general req's are 5'11-6'2 with slight leeway on either end depending on how much potential they see in you.

If you are going to LA or San Diego go to some agency open calls. Theyll tell you in person if they are interested or not, and if they are they will take some polaroids of you.

Some agencies in LA are Photogenics, Bleu, Vision, Next, LA Models and a few more, Ill try and get some open call info for you.

thank you, thank you.

Hmm. That sucks about modelscout.com it seems so..convincing. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm 6'0.

I will look up all those agencys and stop by, should I call in and make an appointment? I'm sure walking in wouldn't..be great.

I dont knwo the open call times for the agencies so you may have to call them yourself. Or if you email your photos to the agency, if they are interested you can tell them you are going to LA for a few days, and they can set up an appointment with you.

A couple of questions...

I just turned 14 and I have braces and I should get them off in September/November or maybe a couple months after...is it too late for me to start modeling then? I heard you're supposed to start young. CAN you even model/get signed to an agency with braces?

Can you still be accepted in a womens division even if you are a teen? I also heard that if you are in the teen division you're basically stuck there for life - not really what I'm aiming for.

its a grey area that they can over look. model agencies prefer thin girls as long as they look healthy.;)

Select is one of the best agencies in London. :flower:

Modeling, Rambling

I decided to pay a quick visit to my local dermatologist. I had pretty bad acne, but it's cleared now. I'm 15 years old and I'm going to go to an open call when I turn 16 (in early october). For Boss models and Chosen Management. I live in Chicago so we don't really have a full industry, I'd like to dip my toe into the water before I dive in, anyway.

It makes more sense so I can drive myself when I'm 16, too. My mom works and she can't really drive me.

It ought to be interesting. I grew a bit since last summer too.

I'm just scared because people make modeling sound so cut throat. I'm not stupid, I'm fairly intelligent; I'd like to believe. I have to wonder, just what kind flexibility is necessary? How much of that flexibility is needed?

Is male modeling that different? People keep on contradicting themselves so it's hard to get a good idea  and then I hear these horror stories that make me go all dry in the mouth. I won't compromise my values. And I'm scared I might be asked to. And when I say "no, I won't do that." 100 other guys will be ready to fill the space left vacant by my morals.

I don't have aspirations to become a supermodel or famous or anything like that, it's unrealistic seeing how incredibly saturated the industry is and I don't like the idea of being interviewed for my favorite fruit. Especially when you have such larger issues in the world that energy could be devoted to.

But an income on the side would be fun. Plus, I'm attracted to the whole idea of being just a whiteboard, and having the photographer turn me into a piece of art. Something that communicates interior beauty through the exterior.

I don't know, haha. :innocent:

Mona and Kate are both actually 5'6. If you look taller, walk in and lie about your height, they probably wont even measure you. I know from personal experience :innocent:

wow almostfamous u are amazing for giving all those great tips not only did it help lovespell I am also interested in breaking into modeling. I know not every girl gets picked but that totally helps.
