i'm really excited to announce to my fellow photogs that i was named one of surface magazine's avant guardians this year - the issue comes out on 31 october (halloween)!!!
for those of you who aren't familiar with the avant guardian portfolio, surface magazine has, for the past 9 years (this is the 9th annual) put out a call for the best emerging fashion photographers in north america. i entered this year with my ghost images (they are floating around this thread somewhere) and was named one of the 12 semi-finalists. from there i was able to request designer clothes to do a reshoot, and submit that for the final review by the judges. from the 12 semi-finalists, they pick 8 finalists who will be published in the avant guardian issue as well as be featured in a travelling exhibition. so i'm one of the 8 finalists, and will be going to nyc later this month to attend the opening night of the exhibit!
i'm really excited - i've admired this competition for years, and i'm really glad i had the opportunity to work on it this year.
i just had to share - i hope you all get a chance to see the magazine!

that particular page is for the 8th annual - this year is the 9th, so i'm sure they'll update it when the issue comes out.
i love seeing all your work, guys - i don't have a chance to post here too often anymore, but i'm really excited about the work you guys are doing. this thread is always so inspiring!
). i used a diana camera for this shoot, which is a really old (60s) toy camera. i'm not going to say more because the issue comes out so soon!
