The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #6

^ Does the ring fit you? I'm thinking maybe it's too big & that's why you're losing it? Suggest having it sized ... I  rose gold  Am wearing one of my antique rings now ... rose gold with small pearls & diamonds. One of the few rings I have that is flat & smooth enough to wear under gloves.

Also, make sure the shank isn't worn on an antique ring. I lost one that way, I'm pretty sure ... I believe it broke & fell off that way. The shank was quite worn, I thought charmingly so ... didn't realize it was also dangerous :( That was my grandfather's signet ring from when he was little.

I wear other antique rings all the time & never have any problems ... but I do make sure they fit.

^It doesn't fit. It is a little large, but I don't really mind. I kind of like the loose fit, even if it is a bit impractical... I considered having it taken in, but there are other concerns as well. The ring is very thin and it is meant to be. It was bought for her Confirmation ceremony in 1945, and there wasn't a lot of gold lying about during the German occupation;) Even if it is taken in, I still feel very anxious about it. I worry it will break, get torn of etc. I've experienced twice the pain of not having it, and I don't want there to be a third time...:( I've decided to reserve it for occations instead. I think it is for the best.

You can see in the picture (Taken in poor lighting, Betina:P) how thin it is...

I also inherited a gold vermeil bracelet that has beautiful carvings, but is too large. It could not be taken in, because the goldsmith didn't have a gold shade that would match:( I am praying for big-boned children:D

I stumbled upon a very intersting blog just now. The author writes very intelligently on a lot of subjects, such as cosumerism, the concept of classics, quality etc. I haven't read it all yet, but I thought some of you might be interested.

@Eizhowa: I feel perfectly fine in this cut althought it is different from my other sweaters. I think the issue mainly was about the sweater not working with as many of my clothes as I had expected. That would have been a problem a year ago, but nowadays I tend to wear the same outfits over and over with different shoes, bags, scarves and jewelry, so even if it only goes with one pair of jeans, a dress and one skirt, I am not worried - because I feel great in it and wanna wear it NOW. I decided to keep it. Thank you for your advice.

I really like the sweater. It IS a tad expensive, but I think that knitwear is worth investing in. Also I do not think that it being navy is a problem - I see that working very well with your colour scheme.

I understand how you feel about the ring. I wear my mothers wedding ring from when she was married to my father and I never wear it without stacking another ring in front of it to keep it safe.

Thank you Eizhowa. Which camel jacket do you mean? The short one on my pinterest board? Yes I have received it, its so pretty! And I sent the Milo trench woolen coat back. It was so big on me.

Hi, happy new year!

I would like to close my year 2013 by making a list of all my purchases during the past year. I use a small memory book for writing down notes about what I've bought, what I think I need in the future, which items proved to be great buys and which did not. I made my first notes to the book in early 2011. Its been so easy to leaf through the pages over and over again to remind myself what I should look for - especially before I go shopping or plan to buy something from the web. Anyways, its time to do the counting!

(I know one is not supposed to include essentials such as tees or underwear, but I do.)

1. t-shirts, Esprit, 3x (replacements)
2. burgundy cashmere knit top, Pringle of Scotland, (replacement)
3. navy linen dress for summer (replacement)
4. brown ballerina shoes for summer (replacement)
5. white capri jeans for summer (whim!)
6. underwear (replacements)
7. black heeled ankle boots, Carmina (replacement)
8. silk pyjamas (replacement)
9. blue, handknit Norwegian wool jumper from a trip to Norway (whim)
10. pink capri trousers for summer (whim!)
11. work clothes for doing dirty stuff at the summer house & striped cotton shirts, 3x
12. black heeled shoes for the city, Carmina (whim)
13. white-navy-beige wool scarf for the winter, Massimo Dutti (whim)
14. beige Keds for the summer -14 (replacement)
15. brown needle corduroy pants (replacement)
16. sunglasses from an optician for driving the car, Dior (necessity)
17. maxi twilly scarf, Hermes (whim, a birthday present to me from me)

not that much stuff, totaling to 1754 euros: 784 € for the replacements, 720 € for the whimsical buys and 250 € for the absolute necessity (sunglasses) which would have cost something anyway. In addition, I got a Ferragamo silk scarf as a present from my beau.

Looking back, I think all of the replacement items were justified and well thought. There was an ok balance between expensive (the cashmere top and ankle boots) and other, less-pricey items (ballerinas, Keds, pyjamas) which were final sale buys. I think the best thing about doing this 4-5 piece wardrobe principle is that when you know what you need, you'll know to buy it when you see it!

Of the things I bought on a whim, the capri trousers were the best finds :) I got them for 15 euros each and wore them A LOT and FOR SERIOUS FUN! The pink pair was the most complimented and a friend named them "The Attitude Trousers" :) The second pair of black shoes I could probably have done without, but I succumbed to a good sale price. The norwegian jumper and the H scarf hurt my wallet, but I honestly hope they will last forever.

So, its time to begin a new page in the note book! Although I did browse through the sales, my first buy for this year was very boring: just new socks, well, 19 pairs of them :)

My current needs are: more replacement tees, a medium thick knit top with a v-neck, a long end to end cardigan, a DKNY cozy in a dark color, boat neck silk top(s) for the summer, chino type light coloured trousers, some formal shirts for work, underwear, country boots for winter, brown jodhpur boots for the spring and autumn seasons..

eizhowa, I've been looking for a while now for a cognac tote bag, and I really like the look of the one you have. The only thing that concerns me a bit is that there is no closure on top. Do you find that impractical at all? I'm thinking that it might not be the best thing for the wet Western Norwegian weather that I live in. ;)

I have done quite a bit of shopping this month. Besides from the Tiger of Sweden dress and the rings I've bought a sweater I have been eyeing and waiting to see if it would go on the sales. It did and I bought it - it was the one I had my doubts about, but I have come to really like it. Also I bought the Pistol boots. Really looking forward to start wearing them.

Next up is for me to do a recap of my 2013 purchases and then finish my wishlist for 2014 so far. I've started creating it already on pinterest.

Eizhowa: no news regarding your outnet delivery?

Peura: I loved reading about your shopping last year. I think it sounds like you did very well. And very sensible about the socks ;) I need to update my collection as well.

BTW, has anyone heard from Eva lately? Wondering if she is doing okay. Perhaps she is just busy with her wedding planning?

Caramel: I use a spray to water proof the leather. If it pours down I'll throw a scarf/shawl on the top of the bag content. I think the bag is very practical because it carries a lot and I think it looks very chic without a closure. I use it to carry books/my laptop. I live in Stavanger so I know how the weather is...;) I am very pleased with the bag. I have recommended it before in this thread. The new pictures on their website do not do it justice...

I am in London right now, and I found the Porsellis I wanted half off at APC! :D I also found some sweaters at COS. One of them looks a lot like the Acne one, but was a fraction of the cost:) I still hope I'll find some tall boots and some basic jeans. Then I might be done for the FW season.

I haven't heard from Eva either since before Christmas. I hope she is okay. She does pin on pinterest from time to time. Wedding stuff. Hopefully she is just busy.

Again, congrats on the boots Betina! Did you have to buy them at full retail price? No news from thew outnet yet. Things are probably a bit slow since I reported it right before christmas.

Sounds like some great purchases you have done in London - especially the Porsellis. Very happy for you. Hopefully you will show us pictures when you get home again.

Actually a friend of mine found a pair of the boots on sale, but only in sizes 36 and 41, and I needed a 35. So I ended up paying full price. Of course I would love to have saved some money, but I did not mind paying full price since I know they're worth it.

Trenchcoat: I'll post pictures when I get home. Btw, UNIQLO have cashmere scarvesang gloves on sale. The scarf is very soft and a practical size.

I'm not concerned about the bag holding up, but getting my things soaked. I'm probably just overthinking it though, as I am rarely without an umbrella, and throwing a scarf on top is a good idea. I've been thinking and looking at this type of bag for a long time, and I think I might put it on my list for spring. :)

Hi there!

Remember me? :D I finally decided to post again, have been MIA for ages & love that new people have joined in on the thread. This is so exciting! So what is everyone shopping for? Spring already? Winter hasn't even made an appearance here in Slovenia - no snow at all. So right now I'm looking to purchase a few basics, I still do not have a single plain T-shirt, can you believe it? Shopping wise, I did get a few pieces in the meantime, but nothing too expensive. Found three amazing pieces in the sales. One is a gorgeous blue skirt from Zara, a navy & white floral printed dress from Dorothy Perkins, and a pair of printed trousers from Promod. I am really proud of myself for buying out of my comfort zone.

Right now I have a bit of money and some items I want and actually really need - I have one top, so I mostly wear dresses these days - my closet clean up was really radical!

Missed everyone & cannot wait to start chatting again. :flower:

I've missed you so! Great to have you back. I have been following you on Pinterest, but surely it is not the same. Have you pinned your newest additions to your wardrobe?

I really can not focus on my SS wardrobe yet neither since it has barely been cold in Denmark yet. We haven't had snow before this week only and have barely been able to wear my wintercoat.

I am trying to finish my wishlist for this year and prioritize it though. I am done with the winter part, but like I said, I can't really seem to be bothered thinking about summerclothes ATM. Firstly I am trying to do a recap of what I bought last year though.

BTW, I need your opinion on something.

I haven't worn my new ACNE boots yet and today I discover a webshop that has marked them down 2000 DKK (they were 3700 originally) - in my size. The ACNE store does not offer returns and only offer exchanges within the first 7 days.

I am kind of bummed since 2000 DKK is a LOT of money for me being a student. I am contemplating wether I should try phoning the store and find out of they would be able to make an exchange even though the 7 days has passed. I would have to find the money to buy the marked-down boots then, but I CAN do that. And then I would have 3700 to shop for at the ACNE store, and since I love their boots that would be nice to have. Also I was planning on buying a Canada scarf.

What would you do?

Welcome back! You were missed! It is finally getting cold where I live. It might acually snow... Which is unheard off where I live:lol: I have bought what I needed this season and I feel quite shopped out right now. I will post my purchases later today.

Betina: I would try at least. Even though your money would be tied up at the Acne store (I am guessing you would get a card/reciept worth 3700 to spend in-store?), you still save a lot of money. If any of your friends want to buy something Acne, they could buy a part of your 3700DKK.
