The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #6

@Nymphaea: oh I know the feeling, knowing what you want but not being able to find it ;) I have my eyes on a couple of maxis as well, but since a maxi dress is in no way my top priority and I wouldn't be able to wear it for months, I am not buying any ATM.

I actually really like Belstaffs items - thank you for that recommandation :)

@Eizhowa:
Regarding the ACNE scarf, I would love one in navy or burgundy to add some colour, but what I really need is a scarf that will go with everything, so I will probably go for the grey one. I do not like black scarfs - I find that black that close to my face is a bit too harsh. It has nothing to do with the bag though, although you are perfectly right, but I am not sure when I will be able to get i (and if I can get myself to par 13000 danish kroner for it - ouch!). I would definetly be able to buy it this year if I cut back on my clothing spendings in general, but since I need the other things much more than another bag, I am not going to do that, even though I want it badly.

I forgot to add a black, textured sweater BTW. My favourite black sweater is dying a slow dead, so I am desperately in need of a new one in a better quality. I will probably by one from Sibin Linnebjerg, but not before next winter.

You are perfectly right in regards of planning and time span, but do you really only get to wear your summer wardrobe for a couple of months? It is not that summer in Denmark is that long, but within a few months I should be done with my winter coat, wool sweaters and woolen scarfes - and I should ditch the boots, but they are my favourite shoes, so I wear them through spring as well.

@Ta-ta:
I love the fact that your front door is raspberry pink! Hope the next size will fit.

@Trenchcoat:
I wear my boyfriends sweaters occasionally and he is quite a lot bigger than me, so if you just size down, I think you could def. get a mens sweater. I find that it easier to find mens clothing in good materials and a nice quality at a decent price range, than with womens clothes.

@Barbaraa:
seems like you are kind of unlucky regarding those shoes. Did you decide not to get them, then?

@Missstarshine:
I do not think that you neccesarily was not tough enough at your last wardrobe cleaning, but it is something that needs to be done regularly - at least for me. I love my wardrobe, but I still have a lot of "almost there" items, that I remove as I get "perfect" items to replace them. Actually, I think I remove something from my wardrobe almost each month ATM. I start with taking it to the attic, and if I haven't missed it after a few months I will sell it or give it to my nearby thrift shop.

Betina: I am looking for a burgundy scarf to add some color as well next season as well:) I want to break up the area where my black coat meets my oh-so-pale face. I think burgundy will create a good transition. I am looking for a smaller scarf than the Acne Canada this time though.

In march->mai/june and sept/oct->nov I will probably live in wool sweaters and blazers, and jeans or cropped wool trousers. I will probably wear my thinner wool knits though. The main difference from winter is that I am not always cold, and that I can wear ballet flats;) The summer season is 3 months, but we are bound to have 1/3 of cold weather, so my summer clothes do not get too much wear. I guess the upside is that I don't need to buy a new one every season because I wore it out... My silk and linen summer dresses probably only get worn a handful or two times:/

That is excactly why I do not want a black scarf :lol: I think a burgundy scarf would be perfect for your own colours! All of this talk about burgundy has made me realized that my boyfriend has a burgundy merino sweater stacked away in the attic somewhere. I was supposed to repair a whole in it, but I am not sure that he can fit in it anymore :pink:

Ah, I see. I had no clue that Norway was so different from Denmark wetherwise. The bare thought of wearing woolen sweaters after may makes me sweat.

Where I live we have pretty much the same weather all around. In Oslo the summers are warmer and the winters cooler.

@Barbaraa: seems like you are kind of unlucky regarding those shoes. Did you decide not to get them, then?
Indeed unlucky! I'm gonna try a third time, and if that doesn't work I will give up on them...

On the weather talk: for the past four days I had a hard time knowing what to wear, as I leave the house at 7h15 when it was still cold, so I needed my winter coat... and by noon it was 20ºC :doh: And while it seemed that spring was coming, today it's rainy and cold again! I'm really at a loss... March/April are really hard months in terms of what to wear.

Barbaraa: haha, you almost make me feel good about my crappy weather:lol:

Well, at least you know what to expect from your weather, ours is totally bipolar :lol:

I am looking for a grey Isabel Marant-ish jacket. But I dont like the IM collection blazers of this season.

What do you wear during summer? I think that I still will need a couple of shirts for real summer. But I don't want to buy crappy stuff. What kind of things would me investment pieces for summer?

^silk, viscose/rayon and linen are great summer materials:flower: I think looking for shirts that will work with you other pieces and make the most of your current wardrobe is a good starting point:)

I've done all my 'homework' and planned a capsule wardrobe. I have about half of my pieces and it's going quite well I think!

I am looking for a green jacket - not army green, more like emerald. I have found coats, but no jackets. And my heart is set on a green jacket. If I just can't find one, I will sew one for myself but I'm not even sure on the design.

But, for right now, I'm focusing on finding good, structured tops in my colors. I'm excited; this has given me a whole new perspective, wardrobe-wise.

@Barbaraa: I think that sounds like a wise decission. In my experience, shoes that are already scuffed in store will never be good. Too fragile.

@Trenchcoat: what is a good investment piece totallly depends on you and your lifestyle, in my opinion. I prefer wearing dresses when it is really hot, so baving some good summer dresses and flat sandals gets me a long way. But as I recall you mainly wear jeans, so maybe some shorts, t-sjkrts/tops and sandals? I would try to buy things that goes with your winter wardrobe too and can work as layering pieces for the rest of the year (excluding the shorts) to get the most out of your money.

@Two months off: sounds interesting, and I am impressed that you are able to make a jacket yourself. What is your colour scheme?

Despite the fact that spring has arrived (after danish standsrds, I was still wearing ancle boots, a wool sweater, woolen bewnie and my down jacket when I went for a walk yesterday) I went ahead and ordered a sweater. Not sure if it was a good idea, but when pinning the one I had decided i wanted to buy for fall yesterday after writing my previous post, I saw that it was available in my size, and since I am pretty sure, that that is the sweater I want I thought I would at least try it on.

If I keep it I might wait for next month to continue to look for a trenchcoat, but it depends wether the Burberry coat I am going to look at next weekend will fit me.

It is hard to see from the tiny picture, but it is made from sailor knit.

How many party dresses do you guys (gals ;)) have?

I have 5 currently, 4 of them which I like, and although it seems kind of silly to get rid of something that you like just for the sake of it, I am contemplating selling/donating some of them, since I havent worn them for years! (litterally).

I was thinking I might only keep my vintage glitter-pearl-detailed thing (black bien sûr), since I use them so rarely and I have my best LBD that can be used for parties as well.

In comparism I have 5 dresses that can be used for every day wear (and dressed up) + 2 summer dresses for every day wear.

I have a total of 13 dresses. 4 are day-dresses, 7 evening-ish dresses, and 3 dressy day dresses. The oldest dress is 9 years old. I have been toying with the idea of paring back, but the resale value isn't too great. I do prefer the idea of one black dress, instead of 10 other dressy dresses. However, until I find one, I won't consider selling/donating my collection.

I can easily understand that. The fact is that I have found my one perfect black dress, and I hate having a cluttered closet. Not sure I will be able to give the others up anyway though. Like yours, the resale value isn't high, and when that is the case I tend to just keep things :rolleye:

Wow, you have a lot of dress. I have two LBD's and two other dresses which I dont wear. I dont really like to wear dresses, I like jeans (or shorts) or summer. This is my capsule wardrobe for summer. I think I will go for the more bohemian style (lots of print shirts and the colours: navy, grey, cream). I want to add old/powder pink as an extra colour.

Guys, speaking of party dresses (kind of), I had a bit of a wardrobe crisis this weekend as I was going to a friend's birthday party and had nothing to wear. And I realized that's the kind of situation that always leaves me a little stuck in front of my wardrobe - the kind of event that is dressier than just out for dinner or drinks, but not quite full on cocktail dress and heels. Perhaps I am making up nuances that isn't there, but what do you wear for occasions like that? Ideally, I think I'd just wear what I normally do (black jeans or skirt with a button-down shirt/blouse) and dress it up with some bold jewelry, lipstick and heels, but I have a chronic foot injury which means I can't wear heels (unless for very special occasions, and if I know there won't be a lot of walking/standing), and without heels I find it hard to feel dressy enough. A LBD would be a good option too I think, and I have one that I like a lot, but it's a pencil dress which I find looks a bit strange on me with flat shoes, so it's not versatile enough. I need some outfit suggestions!

And re. dresses: I have quite a large collection of vintage dresses, but I just cleaned out my wardrobe and put away a lot of them that I don't wear anymore in storage. I am left with five, one day dress and four evening dresses. I feel like that's a good number, but I wish the ones I had were a bit more versatile, so the aim is to slowly replace them as I find better solutions.

Caramel I would probably just wear what you said but with flats. I'm tall though so I usually wear flats.

I have about 50 dresses 10 of which are party dresses. The party dresses probably only get worn once every 2 years but I love them and I love that I don't need to stress about what to wear if I have a wedding to go to.

I wear the rest of the dresses quite frequently especially in summer.

I don`t have a single dress that I would call a strictly party dress and can live with it, since some of them are more elegant and therefore appropriate for formal events/parties and I can easily dress up the others. Same with skirts, I currently have 6 black skirts and all of them could be worn on a daily basis and for special occasions.

I received the shoes I ordered a couple of days ago to replace a destroyed pair of patent leather black brogues, which were my favourite for years ... They are a bit on the small side, but not so I wouldn`t keep them. The leather will stretch like it always does and since they are quite stiff, they will keep it`s form. I really love the black and gold combinations and they will go great with everything. ^_^

Next item for the upcoming season will probably be a white short sleeved shirt, if i find anything that will satisfy my taste. I didn`t make a list for Spring/Summer yet though, because my needs will probably change due to work.

I really like Eizhowas wardrobe capsule and I also want to buy something rusty. But not many shops have something rusty. I found this.

Wow! I really like them. I was thinking about buying myself brogues but I was afraid that they would look too manly. But yours look very good!
