The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #6

Do you think some of them (trenches I mean) could be hemmed to the length you want, or are the buttons placed wrong for that?

On most of them I do not think that the result would be good, and really I want something that I can wear immediately and do not have to get tailored first. But maybe I will cave in.

BTW, the black jacket I was contemplating getting is a bit similar to this one, but the quilt is different and it is a tad slimmer (and therefore much more flattering for my body)

I was a bit worried that since it is a very on-trend cut I might get tired of it when/if it goes out of style (not that that sort of thing seems to bother me if I really like something), but since it had a bit of Jackie O vibes (which I really like), I think it could be one of those things that I will love for ages. Especially since it is very trans seasonal; I can wear it as a coat now with a sweater and big scarf, and with just a dress underneath when it gets warmer, and for fall, I can layer it over a dress and use it as a coatigan inside and underneath my winter jacket.

I think I will go and try it on again today.

@Caramel: no it wasn't, but I ended up ordering it anyway ;) I recieved it just before the weekend and it seems like the perfect striped sweater, that I have been looking for. Also, it is so thin that I can tuck it into my skirt, and I really love that - and yes, good knitwear is hard to come by! I will have to return the black sweater, since I found out when trying it on with some of the pieces from my wardrobe that I would wear it with, that it was too long. Sigh. Why is it so hard to find a black sweater that is not either too wide or too long, if not both? I find myself drowning in most styles ATM - has the sizes gotten bigger?

How do you like your new jeans?

I've noticed the same thing with tops and sweaters (re. sizing). It's frustrating because I look ridiculous in anything oversized.

I'm quite like the jeans so far - the shape/fit is exactly how I like it, and it's the first pair of skinny jeans I've tried that are actually skinny all the way through the ankle on my chicken legs. They are a little softer than I'd prefer - they feel fine to wear but I am afraid it means that they'll wear out quickly. I didn't go back for a second pair though, I like them but I don't think they are perfect.

I also received two pairs of Lee jeans this weekend that I'd ordered a while ago to try, and I'm very uncertain of whether or not to keep them. Lee are one of the few brands I've found that still uses the kind of denim fabric I like, quite firm with just a little bit of stretch, and I have a pair of grey Lee Scarlett jeans that I really like the fit of. Now they've changed their back pockets slightly though, and I don't think they are quite as flattering on me. I think I might send them both back, and dye the grey pair I have black instead, as I'm not crazy about grey jeans.

I've bought two simple tees recently from COS and love them/ My next purchase will be a wash jeans or a simple black skirt.

I think what you're looking for may be a bit difficult to find. My trench is about mid-calf length (I'd be happy if it were even longer) ... the old-school way was that your coat was supposed to be longer than your skirt, so typically vintage coats are going to be on the long side. Shorter ones probably would have been made to wear with pants. I would look at tailoring as an option ...

I also like the black coat you posted.

@Caramel: me too! I am very petite, so I'll drown in things that are oversize.

I think you should send the jeans back - things should be absolutely perfect! What is the name of the Gina Tricot jeans? Sounds perfect - I have the problem with skinny jeans not being skinny around the ancles as well, and I am also looking for black jeans.

@Ta-ta:
you might be right. I am not strictly going for something vintage though - I was looking at a new one, but there was something fishy about the seller, so I decided against it. I have found another one, definetely not as good quality as a Burberry ( ;) ) but I would rather buy something good, but not Burberry now, than risking buying a fake. Then I can invest in a Burberry coat once I graduate from the university.

I did decide to get something a bit longer though - this should be around knee lenght, which is more flattering on me than mid-calf, yet still can cover up my dresses.

Next I would probably like to get a pair of black jeans. I was thinking of looking into ACNEs jeans or Nudie, but it would be sort of an investment for me, and since I am more of a jeans girl and I am not sure how stable my size is ATM, I am not sure if it would be wise. I would really like to wear black jeans though..

It's the Kristen Zip jeans. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the zipper, but found I quite like it. They are a great length too if your legs are on the shorter side. And they're a good price if you don't want to commit to a higher end brand, and don't feel all that different to most of the jeans I've tried that were twice or three times as expensive. I thought I might try out the Matilda low jeans as well and see how they fit.

I tried a pair of black Acne jeans at Selfridges last month, and they were one of my favourites of the ones I tried there, but they were soooo long! As far as I understood they only come in one length? Of course hemming is not that much of a problem, but I find that if they are that long the knee hits at the wrong place and they end up looking a bit off.

I haven't had a chance to try Nudie yet, but I'm still curious. I'm thinking they may not accommodate my curvy behind since they are men's jeans... :innocent:

And yes, the Lee jeans are on their way back. ;)

^I am pretty sure I'be tried on the exact same Acne model with the exact same result! I really love "cropped jeans", because they are the perfect ankle grazers on me;)

^ IKR, cropped everything are a godsend ;)

YES!

@betinapple, I tried on the other pair of jeans from Gina Tricot today, and they are quite similar in fit to the ones I got, and equally skinny. I didn't find them too low waisted either, but unlike the first pair they only come in one length so they were quite long on me (though much shorter than the Acne ones!). So if you want a pair without the ankle zip maybe they could be an option for you. :flower:

Well, I'm sorry guys, but I don't agree! :P Because I'm rather tall, 5f11. :D
My main problem is with shirts/sweaters/etc, they are most of the time too short but luckily I can compensate with a high rise pants/jeans.

Can I join in the sizing/fit rant?

I really wonder why so many stores think that men are square-shaped. How many men are just as long as they are broad? I'm quite tall and slim, so many things just look plain weird on me. I always have issues with sweaters and other long sleeved items. I need something that's long, but slim and with sleeves that are long enough.
Often I end up with something with either sleeves that are too short, the body being to big/square or sweaters that are too short. Very annoying.

Well, aren't they actually cropped on you? :P

Are there Scandinavian people in the house? Is anyone familiar with the brands Modstrom and Soaked in Luxury?

^ The house is chockful of Scandinavian people ;) And I would not mind being soaked in luxury.

Haha. Me too. Ive bought a jumper from modstrom and a blouse from Soaked in Luxury. But I think that I will send the blouse back. I dont want to overconsumerise. I still want to buy a silk beige blouse and white and grey viscose tees. Those three things are important now.

I haven't bought anything in the last 2 months. This sweater (from Acne) will be my next purchase, perfect to wear in the spring.
And who needs neutrals anyway.

I was just reading in a back issue of Elle that about 2/3rds of purchases are impulse buys. Not in this thread

That number is almost incomprehensible to me. Even at the grocery store I make a list, and I would say my impulse buys there (probably the most common place I do it) are max 5-10%. At a department store, I'm probably most likely to impulse buy makeup, but I don't know if you can quite call it that if I go intending to buy a lipstick and come home with two.

But honestly, if that's what people are doing, no wonder people have nothing to wear ...

PS Nice orange, Fewormany ;)
