THE BIG MODELS back in 2003. They were all over the place before now they are still doing work .. you know some prestigous stuff too but not as much as those annabela whatever :ninja:

I can only name three models(maybe because I'm more fond of them)
Julia.S - still doing hgih fashion work etc but less than before , Hana- SHow lsit explains but didnt she jsut do a us vogue edit in may? Thats ok
Eugenia - shoiw listtt??????????????

I think the models around the 2003 period were some of my favourites. In or around 2003, Elise Crombez, Julia Stegner, Daria Werbowy, were all amazing faces, but there was also the presence of the not so famous models like Luca Gadjus, Anne Catherine Lacroix, Madeleine Blomberg, and the likes. Eugenia Volodina, Amanda Moore, Diana Dondoe also come to mind. Also the faces to come shortly after that, Jessica Stam, Heather Marks, Lisa Cant, were brilliant.

They were really alot more dynamic than alot of the new girls today whom many seem to lack a spark.

I totally agree =) now the girls like irina k suvi behati annabella.. if you damn want supermodels these are not the models to go..

I love the time around 2003, just recently I went through the italian Vogue covers of that time and there they were..Elise, Daria, Julia....in almost every issue  it was great!

I miss some of these girls so often...Alyssa Sutherland, Frankie Rayder, Inga Savitz, Nicola Breytenbach, Eva Jay Kubatova :(

Elise & Louise hit big in 2003, Daria & Julia hit big in 2004. I miss all of those girls.

oh yes, Natalia.. Louise Pedersen.
Anne Vyalitsyna, Jessica Miller, Susan Eldridge, Liliane Ferrarezi... and Eugenia Volodina, of course.
I loved that time cause it brings me so many memories but I think it's kind of silly getting stuck and disregard today's models as somewhat lesser than those in some particular year.. let's get on the boat and evolve all together.. new faces for newer looks, one of my favorites sides of the fashion industry.. 2001 was just as good as 2003 and 2007. it's all new and pretty much the same at the same time. :magic:

^ Models have gotten much less supermodel looking, you could see Julia, Daria or Elise being supermodels in the 90's they were just intensely beautiful.

Girls now are sickly, look the same, they are just- faces.

that's exactly my point. aesthetics change. you could've brought Elise fresh out of university into 2007 and she would look just as 'plain' as Anabela allegedly looks right now.. or put Anabela in 2003 and she'd look as supermodel-ish as the 2003 original bunch. Looks evolve.. not necessarily physically but in the way an image is created, people think it's just scouting or something but it's a whole lot more in my opinion, it's the general state of society.. trend forecasting!.. 2003 had a much stronger emphasis on a face's features, clothes were tougher.. it's probably too early to tell but that's how I remember it anyway.. there was a sense of strength that started right after the S/S 02 shows and could easily be blamed on september 11. I'm sorry for getting maybe too analytical on this , but I've followed fashion, not just models, for quite a while now and girls' looks do come as waves but I don't think they're any prettier or uglier than the old ones.. it kind of bugs me when people say so because I feel like they refuse to acknowledge fresher inputs.. mainly because models for me are merely a face that has to suit a collection or a moment in fashion and when I see all the 'equatorial' fashion of 2007 (in collections, photography, styling, etc) and the girls representing it (Suvi or Alyona or Anabela, blahblah).. I think it's a shame to get blindfolded and miss it.. cause it's another time and it's marvelous. :P

Hmmm... I see what you are saying but...

Anabela, like most all new big models, looks very child like, plain faced, (sickly?)- Elise, Eugenia, Julia, Daria looked healthy, they had personalities, they had quirks & had beauty that was more original and glamazon-like, even in the beginning of their careers.

Even like Hannelore, An Oost or Natasha Vojnovic, they had unconventional beauty & were sort of anti-glamazon, yet they still looked fresh & unique and I don't know.

I am sick of seeing the same Russian girl with the same body, same face- the modelling industry is just going in a very bad direction.

This is all retrospective talk which I do not think is fair...at the time, the Belgian invasion was deemed a horrible thing by fans of the supermodel era...Hannelore, An, Elise were all bland, ugly, whatever. Elise had nothing of a glamazon back then. In 4 years, there will probably be a another rage in the modelling world and haters of today will be longing back to the days of the aliens, bugs and Russians. The girls of today are fresh IMO, because they too break with the standards of even as short ago as 2-3 years. The modeling world - like fashion - moves fast and mirrors our society, therefor it's always fresh and new and will always keep refreshing and renewing. Some girls will be evergreens, some will disappear in 2 years. I think we are in an iteresting period right now actually...moving further more towards a neo-supermodel (yes, I use that term, in which supermodel is a term that is renewed and refreshed as well as opposed to 15 years ago) era as far as I am concerned and observing.

They are just are so similar, Elise & Hannelore weren't plain at least.

I agree, Dale. it's better not to be literally faithful when it comes to models cause fashion will most likely abandon you in that desert island called season. :ninja:

I remember watching the Victoria's Secret 2001 show on television with my sister and my mother.. and how they gasped when they interviewed Anouck.. they were truly horrified and my mother even said she felt sorry for her :shock:.. she eventually grew on that look and got hooked on Natalia.. eyebrows et al... I think she's condescending with Natalia because I overexposed her at home haha, but it just teaches you how much our perspective of beauty is often influenced by kitschy nostalgia. I'm not big on Gaultier but I always liked this interview he did where he said he'd rather be dead than become one of those old people that don't want to hear new ideas or accept new concepts and keep comparing and belittling what's current to their golden age. and I echo that. :zorro:

Those girls were great but times have changed. The newer girls will naturally be in more demand and they also tend to push the older ones into semi -retirement....
It's not like that those girls have completely disappeared. Most of them pop up from time to time. Someone like Daria will never fade unless she wants to....whilst others like Hana & Eugenia are practically on their way out so to speak, ya know!. Change is good, there's nothing wrong with nostalgia sometimes but it's always interesting to witness how the industry evolves each season. I, for one enjoy alot of these brand new faces and the freshness they bring onto the runways. It's exciting to see who lands which show and which girl has an exclusive with which brand :woot:

What about Caroline Winberg?? She hasn't walked anything
neither has Eugenia and Hana has done approx 5 shows ...
Someone like Julia S is still doing campaigns and eds but if you compare to 2004-2005 .. its nothing!!!
Daria will never fade
Elise , Eugenia and Hana are all doing some things but not really nearly as much .. and lily cole?! Shes mostly loved in couture shows.. the new looks I'm never fond of.. If they want a supermodel they will never get one from god Suvi or the like

Lily Cole is back in college and slowed down by choice... I believe she only does big Paris shows nowadays.

I miss some of these girls so often...Alyssa Sutherland, Frankie Rayder, Inga Savitz, Nicola Breytenbach, Eva Jay Kubatova :(
Alyssa =( she is doing chanel ads but she enver does runway.. well she opened aigner on request..

I miss the models from 03...but it's not like I don't love the girls nowdays. (like Coco, and Tanya D) I think Eugenia and Julia will go on to my all time favs...especially Eugenia.

That was a great period for fashion, that's when I first got interested. Daria was flawless, Elise was so edgy, Erin Wasson was all over Maybeline and Gisele was starting to appear in films (Taxi), Louise Pedersen was still popular and Natasha Poly was just strating to make it big. Lets not forget Julia and Anja original Chloe Campaign. Stam and Lisa Cant were the Irina and Anabella of their day. I fell in love with Stam's coulourful Pop cover. I miss those days, you just have to look at the old Prada ads with Daria and Michelle Buswell to see how much times have changed, Prada would never use a girl like Michell Buswell today. Oh and Gemma of course was about to begin her reign at the top and Isabeli was still huge. That time was so exciting.
