thank you Frankie
. my hair is still a "WIP" work in progress. i've got at least one more session to go and it's going to be a lot of lighter highlights, so another pretty big jump. my recent photos were taken at night time so here is how it looks in non-direct sunlight, in the second photo from my post in
early October . since my base color was so dark, i only did light brown highlights the first session for a gradual change. second session lighter - dark blonde highlights. so i do have more of a mixed beachy look going on right now. on Tuesday i'm going to ask for medium ash blonde highlights so i'll have pictures up sometime next week.
it's funny i was just talking to my hairdresser friend today about my hair. my friend is a guy so he is more concerned with trends than i am. he's been trying to get me to do a darker color because according to him "that's what's in for Fall"! i was like..."um if i go any darker, it really won't even be Blonde anymore!"
we were also talking about roots, like having Lightened Base Color vs Starting With Your Natural Hair Color. i'm actually glad i didn't change my base to light brown to start the highlights...not that i even had an option because i had so much dark brown hair dye in my hair, there was no way we could lighten my whole head.
last time i didn't like seeing the "Neopolitan tri-colored ice cream" hair. because i was mostly medium blonde with brown root touch-up/base, then you got my natural dark regrowth. it was just too many colors for my liking. especially since i tie all of my hair back for work, it's so obvious how many colors i'm rockin' by the time i'm due for a touch-up
.
dark brown / black roots is never a pretty sight but what is a girl to do? your hair is gonna grow out regardless. it's not like anyone is going to confuse me for a natural blonde, i said to my hairdresser friend "honey, you see this face? i'm Asian. no one is going to surprised to see my dark roots!"
. and besides, i'm very good about touch-ups like clockwork.
well...only a few people have asked if i was a natural blonde when i was fresh out of the salon with perfect roots and brows tinted to match. of course i looked at them like
"nuh uh! girl friend!". even then, i think they just assume i'm Eurasian(mixed Asian and European) because really we do have
a lot of mixed residents in my city who are born with blonde hair or have blonde hair when they are kids. so they thought i just could have just had very light hair for an Eurasian and then got highlights etc.
i think for me i define brown hair as having more of a darker base like when you look at the strands in the sunlight. Blonde when you hold it up in the sun it'll shine gold(a la Goldilocks) like pure, so not light golden brown. but that's if you can can observe someone's hair under sunlight of course. then there are some who only define blonde when it's hyper blonde.
i'm going for more of a Natalia Vodianova look, her hair is always described as either light brown or dark blonde. or you can say "bronde" as teenagexvanity mentioned the term in her post
.
& an ombre look for the girls who are lovin' it at the moment
though i'm not going ombre, i do love the lighter 'underbelly' Natalia has here.
i'm in the salon once a month so about every four weeks. i don't think it's too bad, i think it comes with the territory whenever someone goes for a dramatic change, i'm game B). after i'm done with all the highlighting and my hair gets to be more of a solid dark blonde, i'll just be going in for root touch-ups. later on down the line, probably some partial highlights occasionally to blend all the touch-ups and give it more dimension again.
