The Business of Magazines

There's Laisha (weekly, something lifestylish like Elle France), Go Style (monthly), Blazer (for men)... Can't remember more at the moment, but nothing major or international. Magazine racks are so insignificant in Israeli stores, from what I've noticed.

Thank You very much! it was really helpful! kudos!

Yes, maybe but being an EIC means being a team player and being at the service of the magazine.
Despite all the love and the respect I have for her, that wasn’t always the case with Carine and even more in the last 2 before her exit.

When as an EIC you spend that much time outside of your office, doing side projects and enjoying your newfound celebrity(even if she deserved that), it’s unhealthy for the publication and it open the door for a series of frustrations.

And let’s not forget that the Balenciaga thing raised questions on the integrity of the magazine. Having such a powerful publication being banned is a big deal.

While I loved the infamous Tom Ford issue, that was like the ultimate F*** you/ Ice on the cake. I don’t think Emmanuelle styled something in that issue...isn’t it?

But even if i’m pretty much satisfied with Alt’s vision, i wouldn’t be mad if a major change happens.

I think that Benjamin Bruno should be a fashion director with maybe Barbieri as en EIC.
Ludivine could also be an EIC.
The problem with Alt is that she has a very Franco-Parisienne vision of fashion. VP needs to be slightly more international in order to be as big as it was.

What happened in the last 2 years?
Why do think the Tom Ford issue was the ice on the cake?

And Marie Amelie was fired by Carine? Why?

^^
The last 2 years before Carine's departure marked the rise of Social Media and streetstyle and somehow, Carine became a little celebrity and she enjoyed it (it's her right and her great style was enough for it to happen). Even if she was very influencial already, fame gave her new opportunities.

Since her beginnings as the EIC of VP, she has always done side projects (she styled the Gucci and YSL campaigns under TF at the time), but around 2009, she wasn't even hiding it. She wanted all .

The Tom Ford issue was the ice on the cake because 2010 was a very controversial year for VP. They were banned from Balenciaga earlier in that year, that caused speculations and raised a few eyebrows. And the brand pulled it ads from the magazine.
The Tom Ford issue was really A Tom Ford issue. Even if Tom Ford is an "annonceur" and has the Estee Lauder brand behind, he is not the biggest advertiser compared to LVMH or Kering. Even when his clothes weren't used, his vision was very overwhelming and let's not forget that Tom didn't left Kering on good terms and did everything possible for Bernard Arnault to not buy Gucci. With those backstories and then the controversial issue, it was like the perfect goodbye and i'm sure she already knew by the time that her time was up at VP.

I don't know about MAS.
At the time i heard she left. I think the firing part might be a rumor...

Goodness I forgot about that Balenciaga ordeal. That was an embarassment! At that time I had a great feeling that she was about to go

The last two years of Carine's tenure were also marked by Fabien's departure. It definitely played a big part in the magazine's dip in quality.

Omg, that’s crazy haha

Marie-Amélie resigned. Emmanuelle Alt went several times to Xavier Romatet's office to tell him that MAS used VP account for her personal commercial gigs which is totally forbidden. Same for Ludivine Poiblanc who resigned when Fabien left as they are together and she decided to pursue her career in NY.

Wow, Alt was a bit$@
So her and Carine are no longer friends.
Anastacia should be the EIC. She’s so good.

But I really want so see what Fabien and Karl will do next.

But Alt was the only one in the magazine that has been an EIC and who knew more about how to «*run*» a magazine. So she had a different deontology from the others.

MAS and CR were first and foremost stylists. Today their position allow them to be more free. They have their own magazines and can still make a lot of money outside with their styling gigs.

In America, this kind of things (what happened between the VP team at the time) would have never been possible.

Yeah, you don’t see Tonne Goodman, Grace, Phyllis doing this styling gigs. Grace are doing now, because she’s has the at Large position. Camilla I think is stoping bc now she is the style director.

MAS worked at VP for a long time right? Before Carine being the EIC.

But now most of the girls at VP do a lot of styling gig.

^^
Yes but Camilla did styling gigs (YSL, Celine...etc).
MAS started her career at VP, Carine started styling there in the early-mid 90’s but Emmanuelle joined in 2000.

Yes all the girls except for Emmanuelle are doing it nowadays. The same at Vogue Uk...

camilla still styles mcqueen, proenza, marni, r13
and then uses all their stuff in her editorials for us vogue, i find it baffling wintour allows this.

Miroslava Duma has been dropped from Vogue as a contributing editor. i don't see her name in the name in the current masthead.
